We are losing them now...

Woody a while back, Lorimer yesterday and now Frank W a real showman.

We still have TC & Birch.
Anyone have a pic of them having a kiss? Haha.

UTB
silent will be along soon with that pic lol

Irrespective of which team they played for, I’ve a lot of happy childhood memories watching these player at matches I attended. Over the last twelve months it appears we have lost too many players who, from the memory of a then eight year old were giants of the game. Playing in the street after watching Sundays soccer highlights I dreamed of being able to strike the ball as well as Peter Lorimer.

I just watched Frank Worthington’s genius goal against Ipswich. Maybe I have just seen too many matches on tv this year that I’m getting a little jaded, but part of me unfortunately thinks that today’s player would have been coached to bring the ball under control and immediately lay it off 10 yards back to a midfielder, who then being closed down quickly plays it backwards until it ends up back with the goalie who inevitably hoofs it into touch.

I'll be the spoilsport and say that defenders wouldn't be beaten that easily nowadays*. Entertaining though, and definitely sad that we don't get that type of thing nowadays.

*Obviously I now await the inevitable comments about recent SUFC defensive performances.

Just looked at this article on some maverick names, oh dear, must be the sideburns!
Surely the pic of No 20 in the list is of Woody not TC. Doh!

when i saw the headline I thought you meant Like Freddie Mercury or MJ or Prince!

Great shame about Frank Worthington. My abiding memory of Frank is at Brighton (84-85?). One of the lads I played 5-a-side with at that time supported them, so we drove down there on a whim one Saturday to watch (can't remember who they were playing). We were stood outside the Goldstone when an innocuous-looking car pulled up - passenger door opens, and out gets a dishevelled-looking Frank, wearing one of those 80s flecked grey suits which looked like he'd slept in it (he probably had). He was still the best player on the pitch though.

You just can't believe it can you ? Or rather you can.

It's just typical of every single solitary aspect of the media, from a Sports newspaper to an amateur page on a website.

When it comes to producing anything related to Sheffield United some wanker always gets it wrong.

I think some of our more Techno savvy fans should produce thousands of these Web pages and get them all over the Internet.

We could have an article about Bobby Moore with a picture of Clyde Best

Or an article about George Best's Battle with the bottle and a picture of Norman Hunter

Calendar showed some clips of Worthington playing for Huddesfield, on one you could hardy see a blade of grass it was a sea of mud and hard to tell which side some of the player were on they were that loppy. Proper football 💪⚽

And at Number 20 - Tony Currie morphs into Alan Woodward!

Meanwhile at Number 11 - Who the f*ck was Robin Friday???

Robin Friday played for Reading and Cardiff in the early 70's. He was from the same mould as Worthington, Currie, Birchenall etc but spent his whole carreer in the lower leagues and got very little coverage because of that.
There is a briiliant book about his life 'The Greatest Footballer You Never Saw', highly recommend that read.

There is almost no footage of him, but found this link.

Robin Friday was a level up to all the rest in the self-destructive stakes. Huge drinker and taker of various illicit substances. Allegedly played one game on a big acid trip. Died in his late 30s.

The book on Robin Friday is definitely worth reading. Exceptional players with immense talent who don't fulfil it are a mystery to those who love the game. The book does a good job of explaining some of that. Here for a good time not a long time says a lot about them.

went to the evening with these 2 in the john st stand a few years ago brilliant night birch was completely pissed on whiskey by the end of the night and i was totally stage struck when i was having a piss and tc came in and pissed next to me with a oright mate i froze couldnt believe my all time hero was stood next to me and i never said a word lol

The book is co-written by one of Oasis, no less. Thankfully not either of the Gallaghers, mind.
