Some brief thoughts on the game 75 mins of the game I saw (cheers London Overground):

- given the recent defensive frailties in the past week, the back 4 were excellent throughout, Maguire in particular
- I missed Ched's opener, but that aside he was our constant threat. Took the second excellently, calmly rounding the keeper and hitting it in time to beat the defender sprinting back to the line. Missed an absolute sitter 1st half
- for all the criticism Potter picks up (unfairly in my view) thought he was also very good today. Desperately unlucky not to score with a header 1st half, and shot in the 2nd (great goalkeeping on both occasions).
- Doyle did well, unlucky to fall foul of an overly fussy refs at times
- we looked comfortable up until Monty's intro and Willo being shifted wide - at a time when Hoskins (largely anonymous for most of the game) was coming into the game more. Some will say Brentford stepped things up, which was why he was needed. But I thought we went noticably negative with his introduction. We immediately started to panic on the ball.
- Quinn annoys the hell out of me. One minute excellent, the next woeful. And please will someone get him to stay on his feet...
- Simmo - one moment where he misjudged a cross and was nowhere, otherwise faultless.

It was an effective performance from us. More of the same would be great Tues night.

A vital win in a difficult fixture. Well done Danny, Ched and all the lads. Great show from the travelling Blades too.

RS reckoned Monty was the right move and he steadied things a little

Pretty much how I saw it. Thought they went more direct when Monty came on. How many times was their left wing unmarked in 1st half?

RS reckoned Monty was the right move and he steadied things a little

He seemed to steady us from being a team that could have pressed on to get a 3rd, and which hadn't looked in any way in danger defensively, to a team that clearly wasn't then capable of going forward as we had, and invited pressure. Is that what they meant? I like Monty, but I thought that substitution made us worse. Obviously it had no effect on the result though - thankfully.

Danny showed his mettle and character yet again today. He made 5 key changes before the game. I wasn't there so I can't single out individuals except the obvious. A clean sheet suggests ths back four did well and another two for the lad who scores when he wants.

I'll still be delighted when K-Mac and Collins return: Two giants for us this season.

Porter was excellentsat at Heathrow waiting for a flight a very happy sitwell. Proper old school away match. Shoreham boys we are here :)

If I have to say it one more time then so be it.

Do not underestimate the power of Sheffield United!

I think thats the first sensible post you've made ;)

Agree with you that Wilson wasn't afraid to make changes and steadied the ship nicely with a decent win.

I thought the change was spot on.They were starting to come through the middle and for me it was a choice of Hoskins or Willo to come off.Indeed we seemed to expose their left back and left sided centre half when Willo went to the right.
Maguire was outstanding
Excellant support all match.

Win on Tuesday and we are back on track

Thought Ched was superb but for me Maguire was the standout player on the pitch today against a team that seemed to all be over 7ft tall

just looking at dave jones "magnificent" start
Wednesdays won 2 home ganes v bury (not won in 10)
and Bournemouth (5 losses on the bounce)
its hardly surprising
we won at Brentford whos not lost at home since november
we have 11 games left ^ 6 away 5 home
they have 10 5 away 5 home

we have notts county and mk dons away of the top 6
they have notts county and huddersfield away
ours are slightly easier now
I have us down for another 21 points them for 17 at best

I agree MaGuire was MOM for me and thought Simmo had a good game

Brian the Blade will be on p and g on monday saying how we won despite playing simmo
Ive never met him but does he wear size 24 shoes and have a spinning bow tie and big red nose

"Ive never met him but does he wear size 24 shoes and have a spinning bow tie and big red nose"

I once had the miss-fortune to be asked to play as a "ringer" in a team he "player-managed"...............they were short of numbers and Mr Thackery (sp) decided that he would have to play too. He'd forgotten his boots and therefore played in his steel-toed working boots (no studs, greasy pitch) and was most put out when, after a few minutes, the opposition objected and the ref told him to put proper footwear on or leave the pitch. That was circa 35 years ago: His ability to wind up others seems to be as consistent as ever. In golfing parlance, the word "divot" springs to mind.

I even agree with Sitwells marks (apart from Williams - thought he had a shocker in the first half) but generally much better!
McGuire and Evans top men today although McGuires distribution leaves much to be desired!
Thought bring Monty on invited pressure at the wrong time but in all a good day out rounded off with a couple in the New Inn before travelling back!

Not far wrong. If you see him at a sunday league game you will know because he looks like a smurf - What colour are they?

Totally agree - we got what we expect now from Ched, pure class, but Harry was immense.

MOnty's first contribution was a horrible pass followed by a stupid foul in a dangerous area so we got what we expected from him. OK Hoskins was doing nowt and I can just about see why you would bring Monty on but I agree with Lough above about the impact on the game.

Great day, great win and thanks to the bloke who woke me up on the train at Sheffield station at 11.10 lst night.

Just before that the commentators said that Williamson and Hoskins swapped positions. Was that to get Williamson helping out defensively on the right hand side?

Top day out. Started off in the Magpie & Crown with some delicious pints of Oakham Scarlet macaw. Would have stayed there, but it was getting a bit rammed, so we went to the bigger fullers pub on Brentford High Street. I switched to lager as all the had on was London Pride and ESB, which are my least favourite of the Fullers range.

Got on to the packed terrace at brentford, and couldn't see shit, as i was right at the back. I'm a bit of a midget, so was extremely thankful to ched for banging one in early, as that meant i had a excuse to surge past a load of people to get to a better spot.

Can't really tell you you much about the game, apart from i had a premonition that their keeper was going to make a hash of the goal kick that resulted in our second. So you can all thank me. :)

Couple of pints after with the London Blades in an Irish pub. Walthamstow blade had been texting bob booker throughout the game and he said he would make an appearance in the juicer later. Couldn't hang around as i was meeting up with some friends for a curry in soho. Had some lovely ales in the pub, then went for a smashing curry topped off with getting my nuts wet with a cracking blonde.:)

Top, top day.

:)

That's what away days are about. Lovely spring day. Ales in the sunshine in Kew and then a brilliant atmosphere. More ales afterward in a gash Irish bar looking over the Thames. Great to hear all 1700 of us signing Wilson's name.

Shoreham boys we are here, Oh oh .....

Not all of us were singing Wilson's name.

If so, it must have been v temporary. At the time of the substitution Willo was in the middle, and moved as a result of Monty's intro.

I thought the London Blades was all supposed to be heading towards the Flying Scotsman?
