In the first half Lafferty lost the ball outside the box after he had miscontrolled a half clearance, Posh then broke away quickly and then there were two Peterborough attackers against just Jake Wright at the other half. Wright then anticipated that the attacker with the ball would attempt to pass to his team mate to put him through and he blocked the pass in a timely manner. Genius!

He is so calm and efficient in what he does. Reads the game as well as any defender I have seen to be honest. I really hope Wilder keeps him involved for many seasons to come in some kind of coaching role. Imagine what the young uns could learn from him? Living proof that a huge portion of the game is played in the head.

It was superb. I agree with others that Fleck had an excellent game (as did Basham), but Wright for me was MOTM. He was calm and organised throughout.

Wright must be wondering about where his career may have gone if he had been put at the centre of a back three formation when he was 22.

Probably Captain of England.

I think the most comfortable player I have seen in that role since Paul McGrath for us or Tony Adams for England.

Absolutely. And that's also a reason I think he'll do well in football after his playing days. He'll be determined to compensate for not having the career he might have had. Mind you, he's got a good few years left yet. It's not like he relies on athleticism.

I'd certainly rather see My Brother Jake take a coaching job than that fucking "let's save a few quid' numpty Muckanettles Upanatem Nowt-Fancy.

Tosser.

At 30 years old he's at the perfect age to play the role he's doing. From what i've seen of him he's very composed and you can see how he leads the back 3. We've not had this since Morgan.

Its certainly a talent in itself to be able to command a back 3, 4 or 5. Neil Collins never managed it, Harry Maguire will probably make a reasonable leader, but the likes of Gayle, Morgan, Stancliffe and Wright all had that leadership quality.

As a player though, I was trying to think who he reminded me of and for the composure and calmness, i thought Paul McGrath. Would need to watch more of Wright to make a real comparison, but in the few games McGrath played, he probably looked the coolest player in a Blades shirt of my era, certainly since the late 80's/ early 90's. Perhaps McCall coming a close second.

It's no coincidence that we've had 2 clean sheets since he came back into the side. I just can't understand why he wasn't playing before when it was clear to many on here that the defence is more solid and organised with Wright there.

In fairness to Wilder, he lost his place to injury and then we went on 6 game unbeaten run. Walsall was a car crash but it would have been harsh to chop up a defence after one poor performance. The only surprise was that he didn't bring him back after Gillingham when we were clearly looking like we needed a leader in the back 3.

The selection versus Fleetwood was a strange one.

But unlike his predessors the 2 Nigel's he rolled the dice V Fleetwood it didn't work so he changed it. The 2 Nigel's would have stubbornly stuck with it.

I think Adkins wasn't afraid to change things around. But it was always just a different angle on the same pile of crap. Sharp excepted, his judgement of players was dreadful, so no amount of reshuffling could make Hammond run, Collins organise, or Sammon jump.

Cloughie though... A proper stubborn bugger!

I vote Gordon Cowans.

they have very different methods of defining fitness now
they take urine samples check oxygen levels
etc
what used to be , are you ok is gone now , if the medical staff say not fit hes not in

Could Jake Wright go through an entire season without being on the losing side?

Has that happened at our level recently?

Ref headers. This season I have never seen so many directed headers, rather than aimless headers anywhere. Very refreshing.

His record in a Blades shirt speaks for itself.

I echo the opinion that he could play in the Championship. The only way I could see him struggle is if a nippy striker would play off his shoulder but the EEL & JOC types playing compact alongside him negates that threat.

Imagine if we go all season unbeaten when he's in the team...

Really glad he's found his way back into the side for Peterborough and Bristol Rovers away. It could prove so important.

I know the moment you mean, I said to the Mrs., "aww shit!" as they broke, 2 on 1, then for a split second I saw the calm look on Jake Wright's face and the threat was dealt with.

On other occasions, free kick to Posh in the second half, Jake Wright pointing to Simon Moore, telling him where to stand, and organising the wall, etc., he just knows what to do.

but in the few games McGrath played, he probably looked the coolest player in a Blades shirt

The man gave us a sighting of what God would look like in human form, wearing a Sheffield United shirt, his warm-up routine and performance at Huddersfield Town one Saturday afternoon was a sight to behold. He couldn't run, but he seemed to be the fastest player on the pitch. In his prime, not under the influence, what a player.

We and many others were fortunate to witness such a footballer wearing our red and white.

I really want him to score for us now as well. Just once, a late late winner in front of the Kop, preferably against Bolton.
He's never scored a goal in the Football League.

He has 2 Conference goals for Halifax, the last one was over 10 years ago. Would be great if he were to bag an important one for us.

I thought Gordon Cowans had a good shout for that accolade as well.

Given he never goes up for set-pieces this may be tough. In fact there was a bizarre moment early in the 2nd half yesterday where he had a nose-bleed moment when he ventured down the left-wing deep into Peterborough's half.

I remember him doing this in a game at the Lane as well, spent a lot of time on the left wing for some reason. Can't recall which game it was though.

I was thinking more of a 35 yard screamer anyway, latching onto a cleared corner with a volley from the Gods :D
Unlikely yes, but can you imagine the scenes.....
