PACE!!!! For how many years has this been an issue? It's all well and good playing nice passing football (which we do now) but when the final ball has Cresswell running on to it, there are too many occasions when he just doesn't get there. It's not his fault, he simply isn't quick enough. A striker and winger WITH PACE are required if we want to get out of this division. I really believe that the back 4, central midfielders plus Quinn are good enough. Therefore, 2 more would do it for us in my opinion. Thoughts?

Is it really pace though ,the strikers seem to get many chances,1 on 1s, 5 yards out they can't hit the net. there just isn't a real finisher amongst them.

As long as the pace we have is wide the central strikers don't need it to burn unless we are playing a counter attacking game.
Thing is I haven't seen that much pace from Flynn or NML to think we can keep the oppositions defenders worried or to destroy teams.
That said, Lowton and Quinn were getting decent delivery in and we certainly had more than enough chances to bury them - but the difference was the finishing.

Goalkeeper and a striker that doesnt miss absolute sitters (Porter last night and Cresswell Saturday) are what we need most.

All well and good when you are playing nice football but when you have a keeper that cant catch then you are on to a hiding to nothing if the other team have anyone decent

Cresswell isn't really a finisher as much as a player willing to get himself in amongst things in the 6yrd box. Ched looked a little short of match play but I thought looked more of a player than he has for ages. Porter I'm still not sure about. I liked what I heard about him but he seems a little lost about what he is being asked to do or how he should be playing. I don't know who is the answer thb. Beattie would probably be an interesting foil to play off of Ched, but surely the only way he could come is if Ched left. A cool head, eye for the net and some pace and guile would be useful - but they are not many like that knocking around spare right now!
