The funny thing is , if Jack had remained fit i think he would have left to play for a bigger club , such an awesome powerhouse defender , real shame his playing days are probably over , all the best Jack , great player , great lad , we won't forget mate !
Ohh and the best song ever 🤣

Was my favourite player and proved he was completely irreplaceable. A one of a kind centre half I feel privileged to have seen play for us ! A crying shame how it’s ended as a much bigger club than us and England caps were a certainty!
Good luck JOC , you’ll never be forgotten!
As ever UTB !

Being a Blade should be preparation enough for the loss of talented players, but the protracted departure of Jack, although expected for so long, is still a painful exit considering just how good he was.

Arguably the best CH I've seen in a united shirt, JOC was an integral part of a very good Blade's team. For those too young to have missed that side, it may be difficult to imagine the likes of, at times, the imperious Coutts, Duffy, Stevens, Fleck, Basham, and briefly young Brooks, boy, were they a great team to watch or what? I hope Jack creates a role for himself, ideally at United, but if not, remaining in football in some capacity. It was a pleasure Jack, here's to a fruitful future.

Life can be very cruel, here was a young man in his prime with the footballing world at his feet, only for it to be snatched away through a freak training ground accident.

No justice.

I suspect a statement from him about retirement is coming soon. Really sad and forever unfulfilled potential and nothing he could do about it. A excellent player we really haven't replaced but I doubt many out there could do what he did tbf! Bash and Joc bombing forward will forever be a fond memory!

Sad for us, the loss of an excellent player and probably a very large fee on relegation from the PL.

Moreover, sad for the lad himself. He had a great career ahead with a high ceiling for me. Yeah he's made some money and got to do what a lot can only dream of but he's still a human being who must have really felt it these last years.

All the best la.

Such a shame how it’s ended for him. He was incredible and we really missed him that relegation season.

Whatever does next, I hope it’s a success for him. He deserves some good luck!

A quality player and yes I do genuinely think that without injury he would have been in the England squad. He was a better player than most who were named in the squad at that time. A crying shame we never got to see what he could have achieved at the Lane.

I'm sure he will move on and be a success in whatever he decides to do next and I would foresee a change in career shortly. Maybe he will be a fitness and conditioning specialist?

Two great players leaving the same day. JOC was integral initially to Tufty ball when Duffy played as a 10 and then latterly in Wilder ball with the flat 3 as we shocked the EPL coaches for 6 months when we returned to the prem. They just couldn't believe a 6 foot 3 colossus who was supposed to be playing centre half could attack them constantly down the edge of their penalty area. Credit to Alan Knill for that because when he first suggested it to JOC he didn't think it would work.

There was more to his game than just getting forward. He was a proper centre half capable of reading the game tracking runners and getting his foot in when needed. Most of all he reigned supreme in the air very rarely losing out to his opponent. A rarity in the English game a left footed English born centre back playing in the EPL. I've no doubt if he had remained injury free he would have received that England call up. Unfortunately JOC had problems with his knees before he came to us and ultimately they gave out on him. Whether that was a combination of the player playing through injury, poor medical diagnosis and after care we can only speculate.

What is clear is that we have lost a valuable asset before his expiry date. It speaks volumes about the impact the player had on the team and playing style as we have failed to find a suitable like for like replacement for over 2 years. This is a critical position we need to address before the start of the season.

Thanks for the memories JOC you'll live on in the promotion song for years to come. I really hope he finds another role in football as he deserves some luck.

Well put. He was a huge loss that awful second season.

Best CH I’ve ever seen play for us. He would have been sold for a massive fee. Real shame for him and us.

Thanks for the memories.

Meanwhile in Jack's mind...

"Thanks for the free wages".
One of the best players this club has had in the last 50 years. An absolute colossus. Not one obvious weakness in his armoury, that I can spot anyway. He could have played for any top team in world football and probably would have done, if not for bad luck. Your slur shames you. He probably put more hard work and commitment in trying to get back, than you will do in your life.

It is comments like theirs that make it easy to spot the Oinkers on this forum. There is the odd comment trying to make him out to be some wage thief when he was injured by accident in training and then probably let down a bit somewhere along the line regarding his recovery and treatment of the injury. No footballer wants to be out injured and they certainly don't want to have their career ended prematurely.

Some bizarre dickhead comments from a few trying to paint him as some sort of Dean Hammond or Lys Mousset with his feet up having a kebab.

More than a whiff of pork

Just a bit, as pointed out elsewhere when he was playing before injury he rarely put a foot wrong. Also, the manager and players have praised him during injury for the influence he has had and his desire to get himself fit.

It’s obviously difficult to say where he would have ended up but I always thought you could get a good idea by looking at what Tyrone Mings has done.

They were both getting similar plaudits in that promotion season and JOC was fucking miles in front of him. He would have played for England, which, probably, unfortunately would have meant he would have no longer been playing for us and rightly so.

I would imagine he’ll be retiring which is a massive shame. Genuinely gutted for the lad.

can’t add much to what has already been said. But best of luck and thanks for everything Jack.

Colossus at the back for us, almost flawless for 4 seasons and genuinely the prefect player for that system. What a shame we never got to see him on one side and anel on the other in the PL.

One for the stattos but it crossed my mind he must be approaching the best winning % ever for us.

Came into the side after a the few league 1 defeats. 100 Points, nearly made play offs. Automatic promotion and then top half on PL. plus he alone from the side is almost unsullied be relegation or the fuckery that followed under Slav. Can’t think of many more recently that have a better winning % who’ve played more than 1 year

Jake Wright had a ridiculous one for ages. Obviously only played for a couple of seasons but would have been part of the same starting 11’s as JOC.
