Assuming all are fit to play I'd go for:

- - - - - - - - -- - - - - Moore
- - - -- E-BA-LA - - - Wright - - - O'Connell
Freeman - - -- - -- - - - -- - - -- - - - - - - - - Lafferty
- - - -- - - - - Coutts - - - - - Fleck
- - - -- - - -- - - - - - -- Duffy
- - -- - - -- - - Sharp - - - - Lavery

Subs: Ramsdale, Wilson, Riley, Basham, Scougall, Done, McNulty*

Just 2 changes, both in defence where we've been suspect last 2 games. Lafferty provides good balance and Wright back in to marshall the defence (+ Ebanks looks so much better at RCB attacking everything rather than having responsibility and decision-making of sweeper role....)

Substitutions could well be important as I imagine Fleetwood will be well up for it and I (rightly or wrongly) picture them flooding midfield and having a lot of energy and running in there..... Maybe Scoogs will pop up with a goal against club he was on loan at (it always f***** happens to us so why not in reverse?)

If we have signed Hanson then I'd have him on the bench and personally I don't think he'd be a bad option to have in the squad....

Any thoughts?

UTB!!!

Bit controversial that Ricky isn't it? You know playing Moore.

I like the idea in theory for Wright for Basham but I think that leaves us badly in need of pace at the back. I'd also give Done 60-65 minutes as only one of their last 8 games has involved more than one goal. I think we may need to force errors at the back and Done is the best at running defenders down.

Not quite sure what Basham has done wrong in the past couple of games to warrant EEL being selected ahead of him. EEL's had, frankly, a shocker against both Walsall and Gillingham.

I think rather than a comment on his performances it's more a round pegs for round holes deal. The defence has looked shaky, ergo put three specialist centre halves in. On the other hand I do see your point, Ebanks-Landell could have no complaints if he were dropped.

I'd go with.

...................Moore

Freeman. EEL. Wright. Lafferty

.......................Fleck.

.............Coutts. Basham

.....,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Duffy

...,,,......Lavery. Sharp.

Let's surprise them with the formation, they will obviously be expecting a back three. Basham may provide a bit more steel in the middle of the park for this one as it may be needed looking at Fleetwoods recent form.

Totally agree, thought Basham was one of our better performers on Saturday.
Since extending his Wolves contract EEL hasn't been the same player.

But you didn't swap and change centre halfs just became one underperforms for a few games.
EEL has always played well when he has the insurance of Wrigjht helping him.
So I'd probably prefer that option and Basham can count himself a little unlucky to be dropped.

I'd stick Riley in Lafferty's position. Might be tough on Laff if he's fit, but Wilder can't allow sentiment to affect his team selection at this stage.

Riley has been brought here with an excellent set of credentials, the word is he's a future first team prospect at MU, so with that in mind I'd put him in the team and see what added qualities he can add as we look to secure 3 more points.

True but having Basham in the team gives more flexibility:

3-4-1-2
Moore
Basham Wright O'Connell
Freeman Coutts Fleck Lafferty
Duffy
Sharp Lavery

Can easily become a 4-3-3
Moore
Freeman Wright O'Connell Lafferty
Coutts Basham Fleck
Duffy Sharp Lavery

or a 4-4-2
Moore
Freeman Wright O'Connell Lafferty
Coutts Basham Fleck Duffy
Sharp Lavery
or a 4-1-2-1-2 (diamond)
Moore
Freeman Wright O'Connell Lafferty
Basham
Coutts Fleck
Duffy
Sharp Lavery
Without the need for substitutions. That flexibility and on-pitch intelligence is why Basham has been a mainstay under three managers now. Yes, we have better defenders and yes, we have better midfielders but playing Basham lets us change the system to either counter-act the opposition or exploit a weakness which might only come to light after 20 minutes.

Go to the top of the class.
Spoken like an actual football manager.
Your reply is probably exactly what CW and Alan Knil would say to all those who wonder why Chris "jack of all trades, master of nothing" Basham always gets a game, when (on paper) there are better players who can replace him.

Good evening chaps.

Been away the last two home games due to birth of Baby Shoreham Street, official name Neil (Mrs Shoreham Street likes the name and doesn't realise the connotations it has with Colin...yet)

Can anyone give me an insight into the Gillingham game? From my limited view on Soccer Saturday I expected us to take the game to GFC after half time and put 3 or 4 past them. Did we sit back like in the glory days of Negative Nige or were GFC just good?

Cheers!

It's all here.

-------------Ramsdale
------Basham Wright JOC
Freeman----------------Lafferty
-----------Coutts Fleck
Duffy--------Sharp--------Done

If they've done their homework on us like the past few teams clearly have then they will know everything comes down the middle and only goes out wide when we need to. So, let's overload the wings and surprise them, We could always revert back if neccessary.

On a side note, James Hanson would be perfect for this.
