So gutted yesterday - should be used to it by now but it felt like another punch in the guts just when you start to get your hopes up that they can actually put an unbeaten run together.....

Disappointed that (on the surface at least) Adkins seems to have blamed the ref rather than himself and the players. Such a weak minded mentality yesterday, just seem too soft mentally and physically - I don't want to see our players crowding round referees but the way they seemed to just meekly accept their player raising his hands to Adams and the ref doing fuck all about it was very telling in my opinion....

I still think 4-5-1/4-3-3 is more suited to our players than 4-4-2 - I'd also be tempted to try 3-5-2 if necessary. I couldn't believe that we had Basham and Hammond standing next to each other for so long in the 2nd half when we needed to be chasing the game...

Anyway, Vs Crewe I'd go for:

- - - - - - - -- - - -- -- - - - -- Long
Freeman - - - - - Basham -- -- - - Kennedy - - - - K Wallace
- - - - -- -- - - -- -- - - - - - - - Hammond
- - - - - -- - - Baxter - - - -- - - -- - - - - - -Scougall
Done - -- - - - - - -- -- - - - - -Sharp - - - -- - - - - - Adams

Subs: Howard, Edgar, Flynn, Coutts, Woolford, JCR, Sammon

Long - Freeman, Basham, Kennedy, Wallace - Hammond, Baxter, Reed - JCR, Sharp, Adams

Similar to yours grove. Like you I'd give Long a game - we've got a run of games where he can be used - table doesn't lie and Crewe don't seem to be doing too well in it, we then follow this with the FA Cup and JPT. Adkins thought he was the best choice at the start of the season, this is an opportunity to give him a run of games where he should be able to regain confidence. I'm assuming Kennedy is at least fit enough to start, or give him 60 then bring on someone else. Don't know if Reed's got a knock for the U21's or in training that I've missed (not on bench yesterday), slot in Coutts if that's the case.

I would play two sitting mdfielders and encourage the fullbacks to push on (supplying the width). Give Baxter a more advanced free role, Coutts can come on and replace him if not working. I really think we need to bring a keeper in.

Emergency Loan
Freeman Edgar/McGahey Kennedy K Wallace
Reed Hammond
Baxter
Done Sharp Adams

Subs: Long, Collins, Sammon, Basham, Coutts, JCR,Scougal

We would have a bench with players who could come on and make a difference if we needed to change formation.

Howard
Brayford Basham McGahey Harris
Done Coutts Hammond Adams
McNulty Sharp

George Long is not the answer...

Unless the question is "How can we make the back line even more unsteady than it is now?"

Scougall and reed are not the answer, and as much as I like Kennedy he ain't the long term solution. We also need to be consistent with team selection. With the shite we've got at the moment this would be my starting eleven moving forward.

-----------------------Howard (Not good Enough NEW GK JTW)------------
Freeman-------Basham-----Edgar / Collins -------------Wallace-------------
-------------------Hammond----------Coutts-----------------------------------------
Done---------------------Baxter-----------------Adams------------------------------
----------------------------Sharp---------------------------------------------------------

With the Beard and Harris coming back I can kind of deal with having a back 4 of: JB, Bash, Edgar, Harris but the keeper needs to be replaced and a hard tackling midfielder needs to be found

We seriously need to get rid of so much deadwood, i.e. The injured or the just not good enough - Alcock, Mcgahey, Collins, Howard, Long, Send Sammon back, mcfadzean, Kennedy (harsh but can't be relied upon for 35+ games a season), long, flo, etc. This won't happen over night but Adkins seriously needs to make a dent in this group of shite uneducated players in January.

Spoke to Reedy outside the players family lounge.....definitely not injured just not in the match day squad

Howard

Freeman McGahey Collins Wallace

Coutts
Basham - - - Scougall
Done - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Adams
Sharp

I think there's great potential in a front three of Done, Adams and Sharp, but we have to get the midfield right. For us to play a high tempo, flowing game we must find the right mix of work rate, aggression, mobility and playmaking. I'd use one holding midfielder, and I want a playmaker, more than a defence minded type. This means it is Coutts, Baxter or Reed, and I'd be interested in seeing how Coutts could do in a role where he's got two hard working box to box men doing most of the running. Work rate, mobility and ability to get forward and into the box dictate the two other spots, and we don't have many that fulfills those criteria. Reed would be the only one to challenge Basham and Scougall at the moment.

You've dropped Hammond!

Tbf not sure what he brings yet, but I can't see Adkins going for this :)

Doesn't matter what team we put out. You could get anything from this team.

4 or 5 additions are needed to give me any confidence. Half the team isn't good enough.
