Chris clearly picked a team to play the conditions today, understandable given the scandalous state of their pitch (cricket teams get fined and docked points for dodgy pitches, why should the same not apply here).

Putting Bash in midfield and basically just trying to hoof it to Hanson in the first half did not pay dividends at all though. When Coutts came on I thought he was outstanding and if he had played from the start I think we would have won.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing of course and none of this is meant to be big criticism of CW who, naturally, I think has done an awesome job. Just think if we had tried to play at least SOME football today we would have beaten a very poor side even on that shocker of a pitch.

Right to bring Wright in. Wrong to start Done. Right to put Basham in midfield. Right to start O'Shea. Wrong to put no pace in the starting line up.

We looked most threatening when we went with 3 up front in the line up I wanted us to start with.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Wilder listened to the pitch hype and fell for it. When Coutts came on we played a little more football. But Done on the left was a major error as was Basham in midfield.

Hoof does not suit us and we proved that today.

Right decisions.

Wright back in - correct

Keeping basham in the side on that pitch - correct

O Shea scored so correct.

Done 50/50 if correct. Hussy clearly isn't fancied , so no real option without moving everyone around.

People forget how bad Coutts is on a good pitch. He was woeful against Oxford in similar circumstances and another mid week game away from home he was equally as bad.

A point away from home against a team who have 1 in 11 is good going.

We had to play the pitch. That meant hoof. If we tried to play our normal game we would've been worse, our players really struggled to adapt to it.

It doesn't suit us to go direct though, and I feel we very rarely make proper use of a target man.

You could see which team is used to playing percentage football and which team isn't. They had more territory than us.

Trust in CW. He's got us on the verge of the title and if he thinks certain players have not got the all round game to compete on said surface, then because of where he has got us then his decision was right.

Has he had a falling out with Hussey? It seems ridiculous to play Done ahead of him, especially considering he's gone on record to say he wouldn't play him there.

From what i have heard Hussey is constantly injured with this that and the other.

Just when one injuring clears up another comes along............ Lightweight in my opinion.

Have alike - My thought entirely - CW got it wrong today and we don't need to give Bolton encoragement
Funny how Bolton keep winning whatever the state of the pitch.
And yes beat them on the Desso.

Hi mate. Good to see you here. Looking forward to your most excellant contributions. Hope all's well with you.

Coutts Woeful??

Really??...come on. Not one player can be called Woefull from the 4th game onwards. He might not have been superb like his level has been pretty much all season, but woeful?

Nah...I'm not having that mate.

Bolton barely let the ball touch the grass in fairness. They play a game that leaves the pitch irrelevant.

Naughty Bolton for daring to do it their way Roy. Seem to recall Bassett did someting simillar?
Good teams adapt to all conditions.

Didn't win on our pitch though. Let's see how they get on when they play Oldham, though I suspect by the time they play them a bit more grass might have managed to grow on it.

Not knocking them but it's obvious their style of play will suit the poorer pitches. They won't have to adapt whatever the pitch .

Roy. Bolton are the perfect set up to get out of Division 3. I'm simply giving credit elsewhere which very few posters ever do. I love our approach but sometimes you have to adapt. We didn't do that well today. Accept it.

I think we adapted really well to be honest. We got a point away from home playing a style we haven't all season against a side in good form. Bolton are perfectly set up to get out of this league I agree. It's one of the reasons I am as impressed with our performances as I have been. Not many teams have played the sort of football we do in this league and have been successful

Agree with most of that. I'm being a perfectionist and want us to do a job at Oldham, which if you're honest you would reasonably expect the "champions elect" to do. A point isn't the end of the world.

No footballing side will just go to Oldham on that pitch and 'deal with it' and play as they normally do.

It's not only the pitch either, Oldham are a hardworking and solid side who are hard to beat and in good form. It was never going to be possible to pass the ball, even if our players adapted well individually.

I predicted the team selection and was anticipating us struggling playing a style of football which we're not used to. Prediction came true. Was better second half but no more experiments please Chris!

It's one more point towards the total we need to go up irrespective of the ifs and buts. Would have taken a point before- not being negative...CW knew we needed to not lose and got it. Just my opinion :)
