Team of the decade

Thought this might interest some of you, i'll put it out there.

To mark ten years of the Football League Awards, The Football League and Football Manager have teamed up to find a 'Team of the Decade' based on players that have starred for Football League clubs in that period.


As part of the selection process, the Blades can nominate up to four players to go forward to the judges - one goalkeeper, one defender, one midfielder and one forward. The judges will base their selection of the final XI on performances by players in Football League matches.


We want Unitedites to help us decide our Club nominations by sending in your votes to [email protected] with your chosen goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and striker.


All players since the 2005/06 season can be nominated - which means that United's players that won promotion to the Premier League can be included. Closing date for nominations is Friday 20th, February.


We will count up the votes and the our most nominated players will then be put forward for consideration for inclusion in the Football Manager Team of the Decade for the Football League Awards 2015.


The final team of XI players will be announced at the annual Awards ceremony on Sunday 19th April at The Brewery, London - the tenth anniversary of the event.

Midfield is toughest. Speed could be in there, Williamson maybe? Halford?

I struggled to pick a midfielder 'tbh', i think we don't really have a standout one and as for attackers, there's only Evans who's actually scored a substantial amount of goals for us. Says it all really.

Was attempting to put one together for what the final team may be. Here's what I came up with. Any obvious ones I missed (was hard to do so I probably did) or ridiculous ones I should take out?!:

Graham Alexander, Wes Morgan, Curtis Davies, Ian Harte

Peter Whittingham, Wes Hoolahan, Leon Britton, Adam Lallana

Rickie Lambert, Kevin Phillips

Subs: Kelvin Davis, Kieran Trippier, Ashley Williams, Michael Chopra, Jordan Rhodes, Grant Holt, Billy Sharp

Apart from the fact that there is no way politically Evans will be included(not that that should matter, but it does), but seriously? The man who was shit for two seasons in the second tier and had one good season in the third tier. One of our four best players of the last 10 years?

Its pointless. The club will decide and even if loads of people vote for Evans, they won't put him forward.

They could do that on valid grounds as he is quite obviously not one of our 4 best players of the last 10 years.

And it would be foolish to vote Walker over Naughton. Remember it's on performances in the Football League. Naughton had a very good season for both us and Leicester. Walker did good too but not better than Naughton.
