Just for a bit of fun, what do people reckon is the best XI to have played in the years from 2010?

I would go for:

Long

Lowton
Maguire
Morgan
Hill

Williamson
McDonald
Britton
Quinn

Evans
Blackman

Worst XI for the same period?

GK: Bunn

RB: Nosworthy
CB: Fortune
CB: Parrino
LB: Mattock

RW: O'Halloran
CM: Harper
CM: Ertl
LW: Williams

FW: Bogdanovic
FW: Beattie (2nd coming)

Honorable mentions: Lowry, Stewart, Simonsen

Nah, Matt Hill is miles better.

To be fair, neither Phillips nor Walker plays at left back.

No space for Kyle Walker or Matt Phillips?

I only start from 1/1/10 and only take into account performances since that date. Walker played about 4 games at RB in Jan 201o. So, I think Lowton beats him to the RB spot given his many more games.

Phillips played a handful of games at right midfield and I think Williamson for his performances over 2011-12 as a whole beats him.

Thats actually much easier and not much to argue with there.

However, I would put Chappell at Right midfield and Simonsen in goal as he performed consistently badly over a longer period. Bit harsh on Harper as well I think.

I was trying to think of who's actually played in CM this decade: Quinn, Montgomery, Harper, Speed, Britton, Doyle, McDonald, Harriot, Ertl, Williamson, McAllister, Whitehouse, Westlake (doesn't really count), Flynn (doesn't really count)

Of those, it's hard to look past Ertl for the first CM spot but the second is more difficult. Harper got it by virtue of him being so much worse than I thought he would be.

Best 11 in the games they played for us, or best 11 players to have played for us at some point in the last 3 1/2 years? Because I'd probably agree about putting Britton in if it was the latter, but not necessarily for the former (although I can't think straight away off the top of my head who I WOULD put in! Andy Reid maybe?)

Ah yes, Reid might be a better bet that Britton.

Sorry, off the top of my empty head

Best XI

Keeper: Bunn (on loan)

Defenders: Walker (on loan), Collins, Morgan, Hill

Midfielders: Lowton, Britton, Reid (on loan), Quinn

Forwards: Evans, Phillips (On loan)

Subs: Long (GK), Monty, Maguire, McDonald, Cresswell, Vokes (On loan), Ward

Jesus, what a rag-tag band of footballing fugitives. When you consider how many of those "performed" on the field at the same time, our current position makes complete sense.

how you can miss Mr Bent on his comeback out of worst XI is beyond me
He added total indifference , blended with sheer lack of effort and total absence of control , a shoe in for any such selection
Some people are just memorable for their extreme levels of forgetability.

Admittedly there hasn't been a lot to choose from in the goalkeeping ranks, but surely not Bunn. My main recollection of him is how frequently and easily he was beaten from distance (yes, I know he has played a significant number of premier league games this season) - didn't we start to look more solid when Simonsen took over on loan.

It says something about our club that we have an 18 yr old in nets, a centre half who only played in a season (in that period) in which we got relegated and a striker who had one decent season that we only held onto past January because he was on trial at the end of the season.

not that we needed reminding, but what a dreadful 3 years for us.

All I can say is I hope it's a hell of a lot different when we do this again in 2020!

Thought that one might get some come back. I met the lad in Mcdonalds at Hyde, on the way back from an away game, he ordered a Big Mac and dropped it.

He spent a couple of minutes talking to my lads, and genuinely sounded very disappointed that we'd lost. I think that says a lot, compared to the saturday night down Eccy road when I bumped into Hendo and Nosworthy, laughing and drinking, after we'd lost to Millwall shortly before we got relegated.

I think Bunny, was 24ish when he came here, and yes, its true to say he did go down like a sack of spuds from time to time, but it looks like he's improved since his time with us.

Nothing against Georgie, likewise, he'll keep on improving.

As for Simmo, good shot stopper, but you'd expect a big tall lad like him to come for crosses, but he never did.

So you dismiss Walker from your best 11 because he only played 4 games yet you want to add Chappell to your worst even though he hasn't played 4 games. What a tool

You are a charmer.

The choice for RB was betwen Walker's 4 games and Lowtons 50+ gamees. Who played better in those respective sets of games. My view is Lowton. You may disagree.

Chappell has indeed played a handful of games and looked completely out of his depth. I can't think of a worse right sided midfielder. If you can. let's hear your view. It would be more interesting than insults.

As a point of pedantry, we didn't lose to Millwall in the relegation season. We won there 1-0 on 13/11/10 and drew 1-1 at home on 12/2/121.

Well you seem to want to have a go at Chappell in most posts these days even though you have probably never seen him play.

Oh and a player more worthy of taking his place is no other than Mark Yeates

Kyel Reid - he was a winger who was pretty crap, was he 2010?
