Berge over Norwood?

Is this based on a youtube video?

We need to play midweek/weekend every single week for the next month. There is zero way that Wilder can play the same XI every game, after today's performance Norwood doesn't deserve to start Wednesday and should be rotated out

I might put Stevens lcb and play Osbourn left back
I was going to suggest this myself assuming joc is absent. I would also maybe play freeman as an extra midfielder and mousset up front. Has besic gone back?

The break has hurt Norwood, other than his good goal against Villa he looked slow today timing and passing is way off his usual self. His head was just not there today to casual, caught on the ball and passes that were easily intercepted which put Newcastle on the front foot.

Verrips

Osborn
Stevens
Jags
Bash
Baldock

Fleck
Norwood
Mcgoldrick (duffy role)

Sharp
Moose

Norwood usually bounces back after a shite game - I'd stick with him. I wouldn't want Berge thrown in as playmaker v man utd in a (mini) crisis.

For me, let's see Berge & Norwood together as a pair. The defence is going to need extra protection on Wednesday night & we're up against Pogba & Bruno.

Moore

Baldock
Rodwell
Basham
Robinson
Stevens

Lundstram
Berge
Norwood
Fleck

Mousset.

Assuming JOC is still out, McGoldrick is fit, and Jagielka hasn’t recovered in time to start (cue “how can he be fit enough to be on the bench if he’s not fit to start?”) I’d go with:

Moore
Baldock Basham Rodwell Robinson Stevens
Lundstram Norwood Fleck
McGoldrick Mousset

I did consider whether given Stevens’s performance it would be worth moving or dropping him. Moving him means we are changing 4 of the positions out of the keeper/defence rather than just the 2. I think that’s too many to not make the disjointedness even worse. Chucking in Rodwell and keeping the rest the same, while reverting the midfield and attack to a more familiar feel, should mean we see an improvement. Hopefully.

We're really missing McGoldrick's link play. If he doesn't start I think it's time to try Luke Freeman behind Mousset.

I’d forgotten about Rodwell - interesting he didn’t make it off the bench given we were so light on centre halves today

You laugh at teams shoehorning players in
redundant to the arguement
so you’re willing to drop one of our players of the season for a lad who’s not shown anything in a handful of games?
Yes because alongside all the other 'players of the season' they are getting battered at the moment. He could be pushed out to the right side if you want to keep him in the side and drop Lundstram, perhaps you can tell us if he's any good there.

Not redundant though is it.
Ive already stated our best midfield is Fleck, Norwood and Lunny. Wasn’t any need to change it. But I suppose one bad game and we can chuck the lot out the window. Shall we try Smith and Norrington-Davies as well while we’re at it? Emotions are high after an awful display. No need to give up on one of the best midfielders this club has ever had.

Berge over Norwood?

Given that I didn't see the match when it was played live 'yes'.
Now you may not be the sort of person who gives kudos (or discredit) to footage of people playing football (and this was of a match not highlights of a season) but I would also add to this that he was scouted by our reasonably successful scouting team and deemed worthy of having £22 million pounds spent on him. Now tell me, are you going to leave the man playing out of position or out of the team or put him where he has proved in the Champions League that he is a good player?

Change shape and drop Norwood. I love Jags but when he came on against Man U at home he had a right torrid time of it. He doesn't have the legs for 90 minutes anymore.

We need creativity badly and for that I'd bring Didzy back. I'd go for something like this.

View attachment 83594

Berge in his natural position and shoring up the defence. Still with a midfield three but Didzy linking between midfield and attack. Mousse for pace and McBurnie doing the grunt work. Freeman for Didzy when he inevitably gets knackered. Sharp for McB and Zivkovic for Mousse when the time comes. Jags to come on and revert back to the usual shape if it doesn't work.

And I'm not bothered if it's harsh to drop Norwood. I'll probably calm down a bit tomorrow but for me that was a droppable performance. Could even argue that Osborn for Stevens would be a good move.

Norwood was in Nick Montgomery mode today when it came to winning the ball back and then directly passing it straight back to a Newcastle player.

Emotions are high after an awful display.
You're certainly letting yours run high.
The comment was redundant because it had nothing to do with the rest of your statement.

Ive already stated our best midfield is Fleck, Norwood and Lunny.
And everybody including the management team have to accept that? Log off you're drunk.
No need to give up on one of the best midfielders this club has ever had.
Who is giving up on him? We're making suggestions as to how to turn our fortunes around and one of them is to play Berge in his favoured position.
Wasn’t any need to change it. But I suppose one bad game and we can chuck the lot out the window.
It's 2 bad games and once again nobody is getting rid of anything at the moment.
Shall we try Smith and Norrington-Davies as well while we’re at it?
And finally proof if it were needed that you need to relax.

What on earth are you on? Apologies if you’ve taken offence by anything I’ve said. All I’ve implied is knee-jerk reactions like yours won’t make anything better. We’ve suffered a bad day and a dreadful performance, but some of the suggestions on here are akin to the “drop Hendo”, “drop JOC”, “drop everyone” after the Villa debacle last season. Our team is capable of a reaction. Chin up mate, stop trying to be so overly patronising.

I’m very worried about who plays at CB on Wednesday. If Jags and JOC are out we are missing all three of our specialist CBs, and starting Bash, Rodwell and Robinson in some combination does not fill me with confidence as a) no one stands out as a candidate to marshal the defence from the middle, b) throwing Rodwell in against Man U with the little football he’s played sounds crazy and c) we would have no cover on the bench (except maybe Jags with a dodgy ankle). If we only have those three available I think we have to go Bash and Robinson in a back four and think of having someone sit deep in midfield to track Fernandes.

None of this is ideal, but I think it’s a case of ‘find a way to get through this game’ rather than go there and try to take the game to them like we did at the Lane. Looking at the risk of being without Jags and JOC makes Egan’s red card look even more stupid. We really badly need JOC or Jags fit to play CB if we’re to go with our usual system and it sounds like we’ll have to wait to see if they’ll be ready. If we go with a back four:

Moore
Baldock Bash Robinson Stevens
Osborn
Lundstram Norwood Fleck L Freeman
Moose

This also makes me realise how much we’ve developed a squad for 3-5-2 and how few options for standard wide midfielders we have.

Moore
Basham Jagielka Robinson
Baldock Lundstram Berge Fleck Stevens
McGoldrick Mousset

Jagielka may be injured but we need him out there, injection or whatever it is, it's him or Rodwell and we'll get smoked if he plays. Could argue it's too reactionary to drop Norwood but his last two performances have been exceptionally bad, I wouldn't mind him in over Berge but we can't get the front line wrong again and Lundstram has to start.

Agree this would be a sensible approach.

I was thinking myself that with so few key players available at the back and even backups that we might need to be flexible.

The above would be fine.

Another variation would be to play Berge slightly in front of the back 4 in his usual positiob, play Lunny, Norwood and Fleck and have McGoldrick just behind Mousset though it's toss a coin on Berge/Osborn and a coming back from injury McGoldrick bad Freeman.

Moore

Baldock—Bash—Jags—-Enda—- Osborne

Freeman—-Berge——Lunny

Didzy——— Moose

I think Bash and Robinson as a pairing in a 4 could be absolute suicide. Robinson is under 6ft and Bash, for all his is talents, is not good in the air. We might have to bring Rodwell in, or have Berge playing much much further back.

No idea what went wrong with Restos, but both parties must be regretting him not staying now.

We can't start with a back 2 of Basham and Robinson. Just...no.

I think if there's no Egan, O'Connell or Jags then we've got to bring Rodwell in and stick to our 3 at the back. Let Rodwell sit in the middle, almost as a sweeper. Get Norwood and Berge to sit deep and get some pace up top and hope for a miracle.

I can really see us changing formation and going with a 4:5:1 for this one.

UTB

I’d personally rest a few of the key players for the cup game on Sunday. I think we’ve got more chance in 3 knockout games (Arsenal look as poor as we do since the restart) than we have of getting enough form together to keep up with Wolves and Man U over 8 games.

Wilder sounded more hopeful on Jagielka making it for Wednesday in his press conference in the last hour – not bringing him on yesterday has probably given him the best chance of being able to start.

Is Luton Shelton fit to play the lone striker role.......?

Seriously I would do exactly that....Moose or even Zivkovic up top as the outball.....we aren't going to see much possession so need a pacy threat when we get the chance, bit like City away.....was that why he didn't put Moose on yesterday maybe, keep him as fresh as possible?

Didzy must play if fit, just in front of a midfiled 3 of Lunny, Fleck and Norwood, (although the latter deserves dropping after yesterday).

At the back I'm concerned.....apart from Bash they were all shocking yesterday......Henderson didn't cover himself in glory either but he was badly let down by the shambles in front of him......Moore has been on the bench so not sure what is going off with Verrips???

Back 5 of Baldock, Bash, Jags, Robinson and Enda and hope for the best....

Need some pace up top or we are going to struggle again to great any chances

The gaffer hinted at the possibility of changing the shape in this mornings presser. I hope we don't change to 4 at the back as some are suggesting as I don't see any possible CB partnership as a two that could give us any chance. If Jags is declared fit then he starts in the middle with Robbo and Bash on either side in the usual 3 I hope.
