If Blackwell can survive the current struggle, stabilise the team, then build again, I think he would be viewed as a terrific manager.

Why do you think that? I'm not having a pop, I just don't see what evidence you have to believe that way.

He's never been a successful manager. His football is boring to watch and predictable. He can't/won't change his game plan when it's not going his/our way. The players he's brought in have, on the whole, underpeformed for him (Cotterill, Howard, Harper, Evans, etc). I just don't see why some people think he can turn around our decline (injuries or no injuries).

Sorry for all you blackwell lovers read the facts look at the run we are on every team has injuries deal with it, it does not excuse crap hopeless football like last night 2 shots on target in 90 minutes both from the spot not good enough. Lets look back at the last 12 games when we had no injuries to speak of can anyone remember us playing well for 90 minutes not 45 the full 90 not much to ask for us to play well at least once for a full game. In those 12 games won 2, drawn 4, lost 6. crap form, crap tactics, crap manager enough said i,ve lost all faith in him simple as that. No good having a 44,000 stadium in league 1

What did you think of Hendo's 2 glaring misses last night that could have put us in front ?

they weren't quite as bad as macken's why you ask? looked like he was just not tall enough for the first and was put off by something (moore tug or the deflection) on the second i'd say.

Just that you were saying last week that Hendo was getting better every game and puts away his chances unlike Evans. To me, they were two excellent chances, arguably easier than Macken's and he should have done much better. It's OK berating Blackwell but if his players don't do what they're paid to do, it hardly helps.

arguably Mackens were easier for me but everyone has an opinion hendo put 50% of his chances away. Sorry do you believe blackwell is doing a good job??

Sorry to come over heavy handed Ginger but could not believe the drivel you had written!

Well if u don't like it pal don't bother replying with comments like that. It makes u look as silly. I can take people not agreeing with me but to tell me I can't post on here is a bit much. I think I know what your opinion is but why not try and put it across a little better eh?

I didn't say it would happen, just if it does he'll have proved himself and then some. We'll see...

To date he's rescued us from a relegation struggle and taken us to within a gnat's of the Premiership. That all goes firmly in the credit column. In the debit column is the style of football and some silly hyperbole.

My belief is we should stick behind our manager and sack as a last resort. Same deal as Robbo had - if we're in relegation strife after Chrimbo, and the mitigating circumstances have gone, then fair enough.

'til then, barracking and jeering is just adding to the misery. Supporting a struggling team is what "supporters" should do.

I take it this "the drivel you had written" cannot be applied to you? Even by those who don't follow your line of 'reasoning'? I hope we can get past all these childish insults, may be fun for some but not sure all those on the receiving end are looking for such encouragement.

Of course not !
The childish insults you claim were written after witnessing another abject performance by the Blades. Yes they battled well but were outperformed by a very mediocre Dingle side that sacked its manager earlier in the season for poor performances.
We only had two shots on target - both penalties
Yes, I know we have a bad run of injuries but everyone who joins the Blades usually enthuses about joining a big club like Sheffield United, geared up for Premier League football - unfortunately is is obviously a facade! We cannot be geared up gor the Premier League having to loan 6-7 players before the end of September because the squad is wafer thin! A club who starts cutting back in January just in case we don't get promotion! a club who are more interested in Real Estate than football and a manager who is going down exactly the same route as he did previously with Leeds - and look where they have been entrenched for the last three years.
Blind faith in Blackwell will not make him a good manager -he has limitations and unfortunately he peaked last yhear when at his best he was not good enough, a nearly man!
Sheffield United deserve a better manager than Blackwell but unfortunately we appear stuck with the man!

I aint being funny, injuries or no injuries, these players are paid more than enough to get the simple things right.
Defending was terrible last night we could of easily been battered, passing was shocking we couldnt seem to keep hold of the ball.
These players train with each other week in week out and should get the simple things right.
This injuries thing is just becoming a cover up for Blackwell, he knows it himself and keeps playing the same card.
As for playing Geary last night, poor lad was f*cked after 10 mins, could of easily put an end to his career. I cant understand why he played Ward when he isn't match fit and we have a fit Cotts and Little on the bench same with Treacy.
I'm struggling to find any positives from last nights game.
Thats just my 'opinion'.

Of course not !

Calm down before you come on here if thats how you react to someone having a different opinion to your self!

Bugger, is that it?

I thought someone had some evidence we were really on the up.
Performances have improved, we have put an end to the losing streak. The same would be said if it was the other way around and we'd won four on the bounce and then drawn at lowly Barnsley, we'd say the streak has come to an end.

Difficult to judge from the telly but I thought Geary looked in very good shape considering his lay off, certainly more so than Ward who was shattered an hour in.

I have been watching Utd for very nearly 50 years. I can only remember perhaps two seasons (when Ronnie Glavin, Ian Banks etc. were playing) that a point at Barnsley would be seen as being anything other than "two points dropped".
Strange times indeed!

A few casualties??

Naysmith, Williamson, Taylor, Stewart, Ward, Monty, Morgan, Davies, Fortune, Geary, Walker, Killa, Bennet.

All these have either been injured, just coming back or were injured during the match tonight!

I hardly call this a few casualties!
You've missed out Treacy!! & Evans.

Hendo and Evans - £5m worth of attackers bought by blackwell couldn't muster one single effort on target from open play all game
Treacy, Ward - Two tricky wingers not in the game at all because we didn't even try to play through them. Both Blackwell signings.
Harper and Quinn - Outplayed in the middle of the park by average championship players. Harper did try to look for the ball and worked hard but playing alongside Quinn is a hindrence to anyone. Quinn once again for the god damn millionth time was bloody useless in every department. Harper - Blackwell signing. Quinn - Despite any injuries always seems to get into Blackwell's starting XI.
So far that is a front 6 all of Blackwell's making and, Monty apart, not affected by injuries.
Walker, Kilgallon, Davies, Fortune and Geary - Ok, the only sympathy I will give to Blackwell here is the fact that they haven't played together before and Killa forced to play out of position. But then again, he played Killa at left back last week and played Stewart (left back in his own right) on the left wing and Treacy on the right despite having two right wingers on the bench. Fortune was awful tonight and easy to see why he was part of a Charlton defence relegated last year. Truely terrible. Davies got outmuscled numerous times and does not look good enough.
Despite the defence, we should still be trying to play football through the midfield and strikers - did we do anything other than hoof the ball time and time again? Ward and Treacy can be dangerous and are capable of creating chances but we did not even try to use that tonight.
A genuinely pathetic performance tonight. The defence you can excuse with Fortune and Del boy playing for the first time in ages but the complete lack of any tactical game plan going forward is embarrasing. Their defence were there for the taking as on occasions we proved in the first half but shit me, we aren't half predictable and clueless going forward.
Blame tonight's goals on the defence sure but 8 games without a win and no shots on target tells a story as to how we are playing. Wake up and smell the coffee.

And as for you... SHUT UP!

Agreed 100%, so although we were gash on Monday there are plenty of mitigating circumstances.
I don't really think we were gash. The players did what they could under the circumstances. Other than Quinn and to a lesser extent Harper, most players had pretty decent games in my opinion.

From Beighton surely??

This is the interesting thing for me regarding Blackwell's tenure at the Lane.

He did so well from March onwards when he first took over with a very strong squad. Was unlucky not to get us into the play-offs, but he did well, and played the game the right way.

Last year, we had the strongest squad in the league at the start of the season. But, our results and performances were very ordinary, right through to February. It wasn't good to watch. We then got to March, and suddenly found the form from the previous season.

Then, the pressure hit. We bottled it in the crunch games. We did ok in the games leading up to them (including the playoff semi), but when the pressure was really on (Burnley away, Palace away, playoff final), we bottled it and went back to the unattractive stuff we'd witnessed early season.

This year, we've lost alot of talent from the squad for various reasons. Not really Blackwell's fault, but we all knew it was coming if we didn't go up last season. We've been unlucky with injuries, there's no denying that. But, the pressure has been on all season so far after being so close last year, and once again we're seeing the unattractive style of football. It's not been the defeats that have frustrated me more, it's been the manner of the defeats.

For me, Blackwell just isn't quite up to it when the pressure is on; and it's why (in my opinion) he'll never get us promoted. I really, really, really hope I'm wrong, but that's just my thoughts after the last couple of years

'til then, barracking and jeering is just adding to the misery. Supporting a struggling team is what "supporters" should do.

I agree.

The personal abuse to Blackwell is unfair, and undeserved. I hold nothing against the man personally, I just don't think he's good enough to take us where we want to be. The same goes for some of the players that have been targetted.

In my eyes, the fans at these times are the most important people at the club. We need to show the players that we're behind them, no matter what. I'm not happy with the way we've played all season, but it hasn't stopped me getting behind the team throughout games.

I'll come on here and voice my concern and my discontent, but when I'm at the game I do nothing other than get behind the team.

I totally agree
I have never advocated slagging either the team or the manager off during a game but after on reflection why shouldn't the manager get the critisism he deserves regarding tactics, team selection, after match comments etc He is in charge of the team and should answer the critics when we either do not perform, lose or play well below our ability levels.
The buck stops at the manager
BLACKWELL OUT!
