Sorry to hear about your fiancee's accident Frank. I sincerely hope she has a full recovery from
her injuries, send her my regards. At times like these, football is only a game.
Dear Torrix see if you can land a couple of CH's or a FB and a winger from your fishing rod instead
of the carp you're going to catch cos I ain't got too much hope of the new bosses shelling out for
suitable additions to our squad at the moment. At least we don't get bored watching the red & white
wizards like we did last season just frustrated and..........S6 lost at Leicester yesterday to cheer us up.

UTB.

3 of the 4 goals came through the left hand side RND,s zone ( fair enough one was a really lucky deflection )
Don't forget Burrows. It's his side too. Seriki seems to get a bashing for being defensively a bit naive (and he is) but I don't think Burrows is great either.

As you have pointed out 3 of the 4 goals came down our left side. They didn't threaten much particularly down our right until McCallum became right back

If you look at the period between them scoring the second and the first ten minutes
We completely penned them in they couldn't get out we pressed them really well every one did their job and with better finishing and a bit of luck we are in front and a different complexion

If you look at the rest of the game ( I didn't see it as my fiancee was rushed to major trauma after being trampled by her horses )
We just didn't do our jobs we weren't aggressive enough or disciplined and that's before you mention the obvious flaws in the team
One thing that I thought was bindon will never play at Premier league level if he is outpaced by emil riiss

So any defenders coming in are going to have to be the real deal.
Hope your fiancée is alright mate.

Hope you other half is OK mate.👍

Think Bindon will be OK with better players around him, although they nearly scored a 5th but for a good save from Cooper where Bindon looked like a rabbit in the headlights!

Oh for a Soutter.
I think I go against quite a few supporters, but i don't think Bindon was that bad to be honest.

He definately shouldn't be the senior defender, but looking at the other 3 starters, he was IMO.

I think he needs experience and pace at the side of him and he will be good for us.

Looked ok and seemed to read the game pretty well.

You can't account for issues caused by your own team mates.

The left was definately the weakness with Burrows looking lost (could be being asked to do additional stuff he's not used too) and RND just didn't look confident eg taking an extra touch and time to sort his feet before making simple passes (match sharpness).

All in all, they need defenders in quickly to avoid it taking too long to bed them in and IMO, a better CDM to protect the defence or have 2 there, a winner and a player.

Was a weird game and we could have reasonably been 3 or 4 goals to the good by half time. Certainly not chucking the toys out of the pram after 1 competitive game - everyone knows where we’re short & there’s time to rectify it.

The new approach to football needs time to bed and to get the side on board. Reckon it’ll come good & that we’ll push for a play off place at worst.
The thing is that they know all their targets but have wasted 3 points by not bringing any of them in. They knew who would be leaving and their replacements but nothing done. They want the lad from Atalanta but if they are unwilling to stump up his wages then move on. The lad from Hull they are interested in but if you can’t afford him stop trying to fish in that market. Selles says who he thinks are good players which suggests he wants them yet nothing transpires so don’t bother talking about them. The competition we face in the market we are competing in as increased with possibly up to 10 teams being able to offer bigger signing on fees and wages for players we think would be reasonable signings (that’s why they believe they can only compete by buying players from foreign leagues). We need fast and strong midfielders and defenders if he insists he will continue with this game plan, which he said he will, athleticism was missing in Wilder’s team not because they didn’t want those types of players but it means spending more.

Some excellent balanced criticism in this thread. Hallelujah!

Makes a refreshing change to “ xxx is shit, get rid of xxx, we’re going down, we were outclassed Bristol could have had 7 goals, sack the players, sack the manager, sack the board, we are all doomed I tell ya….we’ll all doomed”.

Thought Saturday was promising in places. We were more attacking and that 1st half was actually entertaining, better than last season. A few around me on the Kop mentioned we were 1-2 down at half time but we played really well. We were all pretty confident we’d win it kicking against the Kop.

However the defence was so poor it was almost farcical. We’ve all said that Burrows is really good going forward but very average as a defender. Sereki is brilliant going forward but can be a liability defending because he gets caught out of position and loses his man. Bindon was OK, looked decent/ calm on the ball on possession but he did seem a little slow and light weight. RND had a confidence crisis last season and looked really poor, so it was a massive risk playing him in any match at Championship level. Also we noticed when defending corners we lacked height.

Another point is that Peck is great passing the ball around in advanced position but he’s a little slow and is weak as a defensive midfielder. Hamer had a quiet game and was fairly ineffective.

Positives were O’Hare had a good game. Barry showed a few individual sparks when he cut in and tried a few shots. Also thought Campbell was OK too. Brooks did his normal stuff, had little spells of being very good then he disappears for long spells.

Plenty of food for thought and a lot to be concerned about however let’s not forget based on possession stats, shots, corners and XG we dominated the game so it’s something to build on and of course it’s only 1 game.

This is where Selles earns his money , he needs to study the videos and sort out that defence. I’m expecting Soumare as defensive midfielder will be a huge help. Also of course we need to bring in at least 3 more players and like last season I expect to make several good signings in the final week of the window.

I'm Fishing at the moment, not for likes, not for reactions, genuinely Fishing. Sat here waiting for a big carp to pick up my pink squid pop up that I have just pinged 80 yards, right on the money.

The good thing about being on the bank is I can chill out, relax and reflect and of course, that includes thinking about the Blades.

Saturday was disappointing. Defensively we were shocking and obviously we need reinforcements in that area.

I was Wilder out and am still 100% convinced that was the right decision, as a club we needed to move on. As for Selles, we will have to see if he was the right appointment, don't forget, Lord Wilder didn't get a win until his 4th game and the rest is history.

My observations (for what they are worth) are;

We need 2 or 3 defenders
Selles sub of McCallum at RB was bizarre
A midfield of COH, Hamer and Peck is weak
Where was "the press"
One' needs an L1/L2 loan
RND is a bigger liability than JLT
JLT can go if we get replacements
Cannon isn't a winger
It wasn't a 1-4 game
We created chances, couldn't finish
Their keeper saved 3 certain goals he didn't even know about

There's probably more but im not shitting the bed and I'm certainly not wishing Wilder was still in charge.

Let's see where we are at the end of the window and at the end of September.

Got fucking Swans on my spot now, don't want one of those fuckers picking my bait up.

Have a good week Blades, might see you at Brum on Wednesday.

As ever, UTB.
Please tell me how you can say we need 2/3 defenders? We need 4 defenders just to say we have 2 challenging for each spot. If it’s true cooper is injured, we also need a keeper as it sounds like he needs a knee op which will be the season, and Davies is not good enough to keep us up.

We have 1 CB at the club and he’s not even our player and he got turned inside out on Saturday. Wake up. At the risk of being called a bedwetter from the rose tint glasses brigade, that team on Saturday has relegation written all over it.

Aside from the snide remarks about ‘Lord Wilder’ he did actually get us to our most impressive championship season in our history last year, under very difficult conditions. He is undoubtedly a top top championship manager and he’s gone. Along with him we’ve lost top championship players; Anel, Souttar, Choudhury, Clarke, Souza, Rak-Sakyi, Moore. This is not the same team as last season in any way. Selles will be gone by January 10000%.

Stick to the fishing.

Best wishes and speedy recovery to your good lady, my daughter had a bad accident with a horse involved, it wasn’t pretty . Feel your pain

Yeah he needs time. (Will he get it?)

Wilder is not coming back and the sooner people realise that the better.

The straw nan makes his appearance again!

Plenty, including myself, have said that Wilder shouldn't have been sacked, but AFAIA, nobody has said bring him back.

Thanks for the pointless words of 'advice' anyway, though.

No he didn't. If he had, we'd all be talking about starting our Premier League season this coming weekend, instead of pining a hefty defeat in the Championship this weekend just gone.

If he had, none of these stupid conversations would have happened - one of the problems that our fans have is the inability to accept a single loss despite the best Championship season for years. We sing when we win, but lose one game and we moan like hell……..errr, a bit like Saturday night.

i had a bristol mate who sent me this
After the first 15 mins you had our backs against the wall for the next half an hour. It took some bodies on the line and a couple of quality saves to keep the ball out of our net that's for sure.

I was actually quite pleased with the first half. Defensively it was poor, but that was down to circumstances beyond our control and we’d have been stupid not to take the Anel deal. so most wouldve struggled with last seasons 4th choice CB. who never looked the same post injury

We could easily have been ahead at half time We dominated &, for the 1st time since QPR in August & Oxford in November, I genuinely felt we could score multiple goals. Bristol City’s goal lived a charmed life. I’m not sure how we only scored 1. 3 times we had a player waiting for a tap-in, only for a last touch or fingertip to deflect the ball just out of reach, or for the keeper to pull off a brilliant save. Then 2 goalmouth scrambles at the end. On another day, we couldve score 4 or 5.

So let’s give it time. No need to throw the baby out with the bathwater or catastrophise about relegation just yet.

It’s was a 10 minute spell in the second half that absolutely killed us & it was all individual mistakes

4/5 signings get us in the promotion race, unlikely but we need options. Especially when you’re trying to play a high press
