I'm Fishing at the moment, not for likes, not for reactions, genuinely Fishing. Sat here waiting for a big carp to pick up my pink squid pop up that I have just pinged 80 yards, right on the money.

The good thing about being on the bank is I can chill out, relax and reflect and of course, that includes thinking about the Blades.

Saturday was disappointing. Defensively we were shocking and obviously we need reinforcements in that area.

I was Wilder out and am still 100% convinced that was the right decision, as a club we needed to move on. As for Selles, we will have to see if he was the right appointment, don't forget, Lord Wilder didn't get a win until his 4th game and the rest is history.

My observations (for what they are worth) are;

We need 2 or 3 defenders
Selles sub of McCallum at RB was bizarre
A midfield of COH, Hamer and Peck is weak
Where was "the press"
One' needs an L1/L2 loan
RND is a bigger liability than JLT
JLT can go if we get replacements
Cannon isn't a winger
It wasn't a 1-4 game
We created chances, couldn't finish
Their keeper saved 3 certain goals he didn't even know about

There's probably more but im not shitting the bed and I'm certainly not wishing Wilder was still in charge.

Let's see where we are at the end of the window and at the end of September.

Got fucking Swans on my spot now, don't want one of those fuckers picking my bait up.

Have a good week Blades, might see you at Brum on Wednesday.

As ever, UTB.

If you look at the period between them scoring the second and the first ten minutes
We completely penned them in they couldn't get out we pressed them really well every one did their job and with better finishing and a bit of luck we are in front and a different complexion

If you look at the rest of the game ( I didn't see it as my fiancee was rushed to major trauma after being trampled by her horses )
We just didn't do our jobs we weren't aggressive enough or disciplined and that's before you mention the obvious flaws in the team
One thing that I thought was bindon will never play at Premier league level if he is outpaced by emil riiss

So any defenders coming in are going to have to be the real deal.

Agree with most of that though I am starting to think we’ll see never Peck score a goal..🤔

at times we looked good , first half going in 1-2 wasnt representative of how the game went but 2 really avoidable goals early in the second half left us staring a defeat in the face, the 4th really shouting we had offended the football gods in some way
the substitutions were strange , we needed to change it and the winger Ukaki who had shown up well in pre season could have put bristol on the back foot , but we offered nothing in originality

Hope she's OK mate keep us updated,

i guess those who wanted a change in system of play, seem to have got their way. Maybe transition may be more effective, its a gamble. think this season is going to be a season of many emotions. Maybe different from last season.

Wishing your lady all the best in her recovery, those horses cab pack a good kick

3 of the 4 goals came through the left hand side RND,s zone ( fair enough one was a really lucky deflection )
Out of those one was a CDM area of responsibility, last season vini would have covered it "hopefully "
As someone said their keeper had a cracking game pulling off some brilliant saves .
In the cold light of day we didn’t actually play that bad just now need to sort out defensively.

Two things

1. You're obviously not a proper fisherman. I can't even take the lid off my flask without getting a bite on the float or my carp rod decide to scream off, never mind me typing a lengthy message on here but, most importantly
2. Our best wishes to your fiancée. My wife was into horses for years. Nice animals but they can't half do some damage too

Take care bud. Did you catch then?

Was a weird game and we could have reasonably been 3 or 4 goals to the good by half time. Certainly not chucking the toys out of the pram after 1 competitive game - everyone knows where we’re short & there’s time to rectify it.

The new approach to football needs time to bed and to get the side on board. Reckon it’ll come good & that we’ll push for a play off place at worst.

Hope you other half is OK mate.👍

Think Bindon will be OK with better players around him, although they nearly scored a 5th but for a good save from Cooper where Bindon looked like a rabbit in the headlights!

Oh for a Soutter.

Weird game I thought, great to see a bit of colour on the kop with the flags before kick off. Went behind to a wonder free kick but then dominated Bristol and the crowd got behind the team and made some noise. The Bristol goal led a charmed life but then a defensive lapse (Burrows nowhere to be seen RND dithering having to cover two players) and it is 1-2 and the crowd go quiet. Two more defensive errors and it is game over. Sad to see as soon as the 3rd went in lots of fans making for the exits and the should have kept Wilder mutterings, what an entitled and fragile fanbase we have become. Coopers first four touches of the ball were to pick it out of the net. Sharpen up our finishing and get a couple of CB's in and we will be reyt. We all know where we need to strengthen I'm sure Selles will see the same as us, over to the owners to back their man now.

Thanks mate
Don't get me wrong I think he will be fine ,hopefully outstanding
But his lack of access gives him a glass ceiling at Premier level

Fair reflection, my own biggest worry was the way their heads went down at 3-1, the fight left the players and they looked like lost souls. I have serious doubts about the owners and in particular the fact they appear to be anonymous and clearly don't understand that they need a relationship with the supporters to make this work. it cant just be about profit and maybe their own egos.

Yeah he needs time. (Will he get it?)

Wilder is not coming back and the sooner people realise that the better.

He really needs some help from the board though. A perm centre back or two? Or 1 perm/1 loan.

Too ill to make the match (increasing pattern unfortunately) so I watched at home.

There's lot of observations. Some banal and obvious, some less so.

Start with the style. It was extremely aggressive. The defensive line and forward line were both very aggressive. Our full backs stayed very wide. They were the width in our team. Brooks and the new lad were trying to cut in more often than not. This high wide positioning of the full backs isolates the two centre backs more than a conventional style would. Bristol's wide forwards were cheating and playing behind them before the turnover occured. A deliberate ploy by their manager I'd hazard.

Our midfield were caught the wrong side of their offensive players a lot. This combined with the fullback situation left the two centre backs one on one. They were left with a lot of duals and one on one, two on two, three on three (dangerous) situations. Bristol City mercifully messed a lot of these up.

Our pressing bar a ten minute period was severely lacking. Bristol City had time to pick their heads up and pick a pass or miss the first press out with a dinked ball. Some personnel including some of our key players looked unsuitable for the style, both in pressing and recovery runs.

RND and the lad at Forest struggled with these highly risky duals they were constantly subjected too. Extreme pressing requires more dual winning

Recovery pace was lacking: once we were in the shit the team didn't seem athletic enough to make the long recovery runs.

Sorry to hear that Frank and hope its not serious.
Again, proof that there's always something more serious in life to worry about than a game of football.

Unless we get 2 good centre backs we cant set our team up in such an attacking formation. Both our full backs are really wing backs and are a lot better going forward than defending. Neither Brooks or Barry seem defensively inclined and the midfield of Peck, Hamer and Ohare are all better going forward too. Hamer has no idea how to tackle, Peck isnt a natural number 6 and although Ohare buzzes around everywhere he cant do everything.

Let's hope Soumare can fill the Souza role and the 2 CBs are signed as for much of the first half we looked exciting going forward so if we can marry that with a bit of solidity we will be alright.

Frank hope your missus is ok
