As I mentioned in a post some months ago, 2018 will be the 50 th. anniversary year of Tony Currie starting his career at Bramall Lane.

If this were to pass without recognition it would be nothing short of shameful but, given our club's track record in such matters, it could be a strong possibility. This being the case, I hope that some member or members of this forum who have the right contacts at BDTBL will bring this to their attention.

It would also be helpful if said member or members could keep an eye on the nature and progress of any recognition they propose - that way we might avoid getting a tribute to Tony Kenworthy next December.

I would hope that any such recognition would be permanent, prominent and of a high quality befitting of the man voted as being our greatest ever player ( as well, of course as being sustainable, eco-friendly, inclusive and politically correct )

I think we should rename the South Stand the Tony Currie Stand. Liverpool did similar for Kenny Dalglish recently to great reception, why can't we rename the stand built during his Blades career for him?

He was Bert's favourite player from that era but in Bert's opinion the club have done enough for him as it is.

Controversial opinion Bert. He was also my favourite player of the time. The club will do what they think they need to, but it will divide opinion whatever.

I don't know about the stand, they should name the fucking ground after him. He's been the only real highlight of my 50+ years watching United, and by highlight I mean watching a player who compares with the other greats since he appeared on the scene.

More than built while he was here - the debt that we incurred was the main reason that we had to sell him! - so in a way he paid for some of it!

The Magic Days ended then - until now.

Great player, but, apparently, not a very nice person..... Discuss.

Always nice when I've met him, and gave my dad some of the happiest days of his life, so he ooooooreyt in my eyes.

My wife took a party of special needs adults to the Lane some years ago and TC took them round. She said what a good job he did and how well he treated all of them - she found him to be charming.

Irrespective of that, I believe that with regard to the matter in hand he should be judged solely on his ability and his contribution towards the club and the enjoyment of Blades fans of that era , and they are all huge.

Maybe something on their beloved Kop new Kop for TC and Woody, if and when it gets done?

Try and get promoted, have him break ground on the new Kop, name it after him, The TC Kop, proper permanent letters on the roof like Old Trafford. If we get promoted and stay there then we'd probably be able to afford to name all our stands too, not just The *cheque please* John Street Stand etc.. Could do the lot and have it mean summat.

Every gangway could be designated to a legend, with a mural on the wall in the new indoor concourses.

TC was of course Top Cat from the cartoon series. Everybody with initials TC then became nicknamed Top Cat - including my brother-in-law.

Interestingly, Woody is now also a character in Toy Story. So we could have the TC and Woody stand - with appropriate images!

Magic Days

I'd love to see us rename a stand after a Blades legend, unfortunately a Blades legend does not give us money for putting their names against the stand.

TC was my childhood hero but I agree with Bert. There is a box in John St named after him and the club have more than paid him back over the years, given where he was at the end of his career. And continue to do so. A wonderful player but no more deserving of a stand than many others - Needham, Gillespie, Hagan, Tunstall, Shaw and Woodward to name but a few.
