I think Sydie is one of those that we won’t know what we’ve lost until he’s gone. He’s one of those who gets through a lot of work, is good on the ball and gives us control in most games (when he has someone suitable next to him) but where he doesn’t get particularly involved in goals and assists he doesn’t stand out. Only time I’ve seen him be bossed was against boro where I think Hackney got better of him. We generally have the better of teams in the middle of the park where we get let down in front, behind and at the side (defensively). I think he’s a cracking player and considering his age I think he could hold his own in the premier league. He always shows for the ball and makes time for himself with his first touch and is a decent passer and all round battler. He’ll only get better too and would love to see him here for another season

Don’t know how he can be shortlisted on this seasons performances he’s been average at best

Young player, I can’t be bothered to took at the shortlist but you’d have to do that and see who is/isn’t on it to say he doesn’t deserve it.

Personally think he’s been brilliant at times this season especially during that little resurgent run you had when the play offs were looking possible.

At the start and recently much less so I do agree.

I'm glad for him, but surprised the league have shortlisted him and not Brooks (who I expect to win YPOTY in the club's awards). Peck arguably had a better season in 24-25 than this time out, other than finally breaking his goal drought. Brooks has been the breakthrough star of the team.

It wouldn’t shock me if that’s an oversight by the selections board not realising brooks qualifies tbh šŸ˜‚ he was 22 in August.

Edit: Yes looking at the other nominees now as turns out I can be bothered and they are all 21 or younger. Might be coincidence but they not included anyone who turned 22 during the season.

Sydie has had a tough gig, really. I like him, he's the one prospect who's trajectory and development I really want to handle carefully, because there's clearly a player in there.

But here's why I feel for him. Last season, he was chucked in at the deep end after the loss of Arblaster. We had woeful depth in central mid and whilst he had the impressive Souza alongside him for the most part, he was asked to do a LOT of minutes, far more than you would ideally cover in your introduction to mens professional football.

This season, Jairo aside, he has had an awful range of CM partners - in terms of consistency of selection and consistency of form. All have been a drop off from Souza and he has been extremely exposed. Again, far more than he should be, so early into his professional career.

In any other circumstances we would've been able to manage his minutes better, and give him time to grow into his role. I still think he needs to establish what type of midfielder he wants to be - but it's like he's had to put that to one side as a nicety, to work on later - and to just get on with slogging the hard yards and extensive minutes so far.

I haven’t seen enough of Phillips to comment, Bobby Clarke from what I’ve seen is talented but not outstanding but I wouldn’t say I’ve really seen enough to place him.

I do not see Peck winning that, solely because of the inclusion of Jordan James, Leicester would be dead and buried already without Jordan James, in a completely disjointed team he’s top goalscorer with 10 goals from midfield (more than Bamford or O’Hare) in 29 appearances, looks a cut above anyone else playing in that team, he will win Leicesters full player of the season never mind young player award at a canter and part of me hopes he moves onto better things in the summer.

Maybe get your wallets out, he’s class. In an actual correctly functioning Championship club he’ll soon be one of the best players in the league if he keeps playing and maturing like he is.

James signed on loan from Rennes with a 5m euro option to buy. Considering his and Leicester's season - it will be interesting to see what happens to him - would love us to be in for him but assume he'll have better suitors if Leicester go down.

Peck has played a number of matches for England u 21 and never looks out of place.
Last season he was all about providing cover and being in a position to receive the ball, this season he is playing more forward passes and looking to create, next season will be even better.
As someone else has said we will not know how good he is until he has gone, can only get better

He's the one signing I'd want us to be in for this summer. But we have absolutely no chance.

Brooks is too old to win the EFL young player of the year award. - Players must be under 21 or turn 21 during the season.

It's kind of crazy how Peck is still eligible isn't it, considering how much Championship football he already has under his belt. Makes some of the stick he's been getting this season for not bossing the midfield look ridiculous

Yes I know, Leicester won’t have five million Euros if they go down though and even if we don’t it’s not a forgone conclusion we will.

Anyway getting off topic now, I don’t see Peck standing any chance of winning the award based on James alone.

Still worthy of his nomination though imo. Be interesting to see if he can build again as he clearly has this season.

I’d be amazed if he doesn’t go to Ipswich or Coventry (or whoever else gets promoted). At anything less than <Ā£10m he’s a prime candidate you can either sell for a profit or know you have a player ready for the EFL.

Peck deserves some recognition. He has many of the attributes we want in a player.
He is mobile and committed. He doesn't drop his head after making a mistake. He wants the ball again. He puts in alot of tackles. Averaging about 10 per game.

He is good to shield the ball, particularly on his right side. He does need to work on using his left foot more and playing a one touch pass. And getting his head up and increase variety of passing. He has added a few goals this season and competes for headers. He is still a work in progress, but with the right coaching will improve.

To me he has a great attitude and wants to win.

He was v good at Filbert 2

It’s a bit of crazy situation with it being a loan an option to buy. We are all very confused as to whether he has legally committed to signing for Leicester as part of the original loan deal if the club takes up the option. And if there is a legal agreement whether it is still enforceable if the club is relegated as surely that’s Leicester not upholding the same league status at the time an agreement was made.

I honestly would not rule out him signing for Leicester on a permanent deal for the agreed 5 million euros but then immediately being sold on for 10 million quid

He was good in both games against Leicester, he had a very purple patch in general in late autumn early winter.

I think you’ve got a real player there he’s just suffering from something a lot of players his age do and that’s inconsistency across an entire season, which isn’t going to help when you have more senior players who are doing the same thing at Sheffield United this year.

Although one thing I’ll say is Peck is very very rarely ā€œpoorā€ he only really looks underwhelming at his worst.

The only time that Peck has been made to look bad was in Selles' god-awful attempt at playing 4-3-3 with Hamer and O'Hare on either side of him where he was left trying to defend 4 players on his own.

I haven't actually watched him play for the 21's but I notice he often seems to come on for the player playing CAM (often Nwaneri) - have they been playing him higher or is he more of a "shoring things up" sub?

Yes but that’s tactical naivety isn’t it. Sort of thinking that gets you sacked twice in the same season šŸ˜‚

If you’re using a single holding midfield pivot in a 4-3-3 it’s probably best to make sure you’re not putting pressure on a 21 year old by making him play next to two players, one of which is a number 10, the other only really likes to be in deep positions if he’s got the ball and trying to playmake. You need one number 8 stile player who is willing to get his hands very dirty, at least, to make it work as tactic that gives your xi competency in keeping the ball out of your net.
