Our main problem at the moment is we are not getting enough bodies forward and into goal scoring positions, and our set pieces are shocking as most of corners are as well as there fired in too close to the goalkeeper.

We very rarely have any shots from outside of the box either that needs to be addressed as well:)

You should know different, if you watched the early 70s side. imo it could be a whole lot better.

Yes I watched throughout the 70's but it was much slower and I'm afraid a different game.

One that I would love to go back to........ask the lads who go to forum footy when I whine on about passing the ball into the net.

I'm afraid we lived through a time of great......stylish football which has now gone.

If you watch the videos players, generally, stayed on their feet and tried to use skill.

Yes it could be better, as you say, but even the great players these days choose to cheat rather than use their skill.

It's so fast these days that skill, in terms of the 70's, will hardly be seen.

I'm just glad I saw it!

:)

Agree totally the amount of times this season and in the game against newcastle where we had an attacking move but 1 - 2 at most people in the box - sometimes none is shocking - ATTACK ! ATTACK ! ATTACK

Interestingly one of the formations that is most effective in getting bodies forward quickly is a variation of 4-5-1 :D

Tongey has always been a major culprit of floating balls to the keeper, players like CKR and Keef are better at varying the crossing though. Keef on his day is an immense crosser of the ball and CKR is brilliant at mixing them up and whipping the ball in quickly and accurately.

very true - with Rob Hulse out the striking options are limited - Nade can be quality but not fit enough - the Crosses can be played in but if there is no-one to finish them off whats the use - they might as well have a shot

:)
Not when the midfield is made up of two defensive midfielders and at least one full back.

Exactly metal well said:)

With Bromby and leighterwood and Armstrong in the side its very rare that we keep the ball on the floor with these 3 they normally smash it miles instead of trying to pass it to feet they panic too much.

But the times we do shoot they are miles of target anyway it's very rare that we shoot from outside of the box either which we should do alot more off.

We could do with the old michael tonge who would smash them in from all areas and we could do with a set free kick taker who would have a go at getting it over the wall instead of smashing it and hoping it will go through the wall.

The first two on recent form granted... but Armstrong is good at linkup play and getting forward up the flank.

ahh but more often than not if you watch what he does he hoofs it miles but he he is good at link up play i'll give you that one;)

i was actually impressed with Amrstrongs play against Newcastle. Need more of that from him.

Im just thinking maybe on Armstrong could come back into left Midfield as we need someone to cross from the left. Have CKR as a striker and keef on the right wing. With Tonge or Fathi and Monty in the middle. With Killa to play left back.

Cant stand Armstrong myself

my team would be for today

Kenny
Geary Jags Lucketti Killa
Keef Monty A quinn S Quinn
Stead Nade

Reason for Alan QUinn he can pick a pass!
