Fantastic ambition Blades, well done.

We let another squad player leave and miss out on what would have been a quality signing all in the same day.

Very VERY disappointed. While we dither, other teams get in there. I suppose we'll hear the same old crap from Blackwell about two-timing agents et-al.

Well wasn't it a week ago that Surman was reported to be going to Championship team, unnamed for £1.2mill. We presumed it was us, it clearly wasn't.

Move on, there'll be others.

Berkshire Blade;256387]Change the title that gets peoples hopes up!

Yes he could have used something like, "Pilgrim's Progress" or "Here Endeth The Lesson" they would have been far more appropriate.

It's a shame though. I was getting my hopes up that we were bringing in a half decent footballer.

Oh well they'll be others - I hope

Too expensive for us.

Maybe Halford is the move to make?

Maybe Halford is the move to make?

Why is he too expensive for us? Why can a team coming up from league 1 with a lower average attendance afford him?

Halford will be just as expensive, if not more, surely?

Not really bothered about missing out on the player, but if we were bidding for him in earnest, it's a bit of a kick in the teeth that Norwich have beaten us to it.

Missing out on players is what we do best.

i hate the way that things start to break down after things are looking really promising.cant c us bringing any other quality in now.another player thro our grasp.fuk

From a Wolves fan who hates him...

Do you like slow midfielders who can't pass, tackle, have less fight than Audley Harrison and never do anything of any note? Then Andrew Surman is the midfielder for you.

You will doubtless hear people banging on about his "potential", despite him being in his mid 20s and quite clearly never going to be able to do anything about his chronic lack of pace, even if he attains a heart from somewhere.

Here is a list of Andrew Surman's strengths:

1) He's a bit of a looker, so this tugs on the heartstrings of the latent homosexuality at the heart of many football supporters

2) He is left footed. This attribute has been key to many spanners making a career out of football, even if they're actually rubbish. Ever heard anyone talk about a "cultured right boot"? Or "the problem right hand side"?

3) He was bizarrely massively highly rated a few years ago. This leads people who have never seen him play to believe that Thick Mick hasn't given him a chance and that he's actually ace. Eastwood pioneered this.

And er, that's it.

And from a Saints fan who used to rave about him...

Slow as a sloth but has a nice left foot, capable of playing good football - certainly looks to play the game in the right way. I wouldn't say he was bizarrely over-rated, he was a part of a half-decent Saints side in 2006/07 and didn't look out of place at all when he played for England U21's.

It's fair to say he hasn't pushed on and if David Jones is getting a game ahead of you, it's time to move on.

Maybe not the end of the world we've missed out... especially considering the way we play. For a left winger, I think we need pace and strength rather than silky skills.

Michael Tonge be thy name

joke. you know to be worried when norwich are getting players ahead of us. the good news is stewart is gone, but now, with no surman, what quality can we get for the left? i really thought we'd get him-would have been a statement by the club on our ambitions, but now it's a statement that we are complete pushovers and can't attract squat.

Or its a statement we're not going to be held to ransom or pay lots for premiership rejects?

Where did a club like Norwich find the money they must be going all out on a promotion push.

I can certainly see this happening in the CCC with the massively-increased parachute payments. Teams like the already-broke Leeds along with Notts Forest, Ipswich etc. will realise that it doesn't need to be one season of humiliation in the PL plus around £22m in parachute payments and all the increased revenue going on players and agents.

Average teams like Stoke and Wolves are the model for teams like the Blades.

So what's it to be? Shit or bust?

well if newspaper reports this morning are correct, he went to Norwich for the massive sum of £500k!

If other reports are true that we have been chasing his services for some time, then either we are that skint we can't afford a fee, or the fella wanted to remain down south, or didn't just fancy SUFC over Naaarrich!

Shame really

Needless to say, all my Norwich supporting mates are absolutely delighted, but it is a sad state of affairs here if we can't afford him and they can - they have very little money! Or maybe Delia is planning another TV series...

Thank God for that.
Not remotely worth the money or wages. We need hungry and talented players, not nomarks like Surman.

Don't know whether he would have been a good or bad signing. More concerned that it is a case of same old, same old from United. As far back as I can remember it has always been a case of "Well we went for him but someone got there first" or "we weren't prepared to pay the wages to break our wage structure" or "we couldn't tempt him" etc etc etc. I hope I am wrong but why the delays on Nosworthy & Simonsen? Whenever there is a delay in a player we have admitted interest in, it usually means he is off elsewhere.

Perhaps we really need to look at our PR machine and stop telling the world about the players we are after until we have them. This serves 2 purposes. 1, it stops other teams getting a heads up and 2, it stops expectations from the fans building. Just a thought.

What a surprise, apparently beaten to a player we were apparently after, because apparently the fans said so.

Is it just me who finds it hard to get worked up about not getting a player we are "apparently" after?
