Sunderland have sold out their allocation

Tell me when Sunderland has ever been doing well? We have been shite for decades and have spent 2 spells in the third division. You talk as if we were once European and Premier League champions.

since first relegation in 1958 the highest we have ever been in the top flight is 7th - twice. We were once 10th and once 14th.

We have been utter gash in the top flight for decades now and I've seen us relegated 9 times since 1977. We have lost 8 out of our last 10 visits to Wembley.

We are currently getting 40000 plus crowds in the Championship, having not long come out of the third division where we averaged higher crowds than Leeds United - who BTW has never had a 40k average crowd in their entire history.

Currently and for a team that has not won a major domestic trophy since 1973 we have the 6th highest crowd in the second tier of all of UEFA's 55 leagues. Only 5 clubs in Germany, a country with a population of more than 80m have more than us.
Easy, Tiger 😂

Here are Sheffield United's average attendances:

I dont see any average attendance of over 40000 at Sheffield United and barely see one over 30000.

there are a few too many football clubs fans who take the piss out of Sunderland's attendances, 6th highest second tier attendance in the entire European continent - and yet when their average attendances are exposed it doesn't look so great for those clubs then - does it?

Here's a one about Leeds United - did you know they have never had an average attendance of over 40000 in their entire history, even when their ground held that many. In the third division their fans deserted them and the highest average attendance they got was 26,000. Sunderland averaged over 30000 in league 1. Ironically LUFC got their highest ever attendance against....Sunderland.

So sunderland's average attendances this season are higher than both Leeds United and Sheffield United has ever had in their entire history.

If you want to take the piss out of Sunderland's crowds then fine - but we will make sure you have the context and the facts first.

there was never any need for this disrespectful conversation was there?

all you had to say was that Sunderland get canny crowds and leave it at that.
After reading this post I read the full conversation and I cannot see any piss taking of Sunderland attendances. I can see plenty having a pop at the pigs, I suggest you re-read and calm down 👍

Colleague here is a mackem and says it's been a shambles with people gaining access to tickets that shouldn't have. Loads have had their tickets revoked etc.

8/10 defeats, that’s nothing!

We’ve not won there for 100 years!

Sunderlands support is phenomenal BUT it's a one club city like Newcastle and Leeds. If you combine ours and Wednesdays average then 'Sheffield' would consistently average around 55k. And remember just like you boys we have no glory hunters following the Sheffield teams.

Not knocking your support because as I said at the start it's top class but it should be in a one club big northern city.

And if we sre talking success I can remember you winning an FA Cup, it's 100 years since we won anything of note.

Ah bless
The inherent inferiority complex / defence mechanism kicks in (again):-
So much sensitivity / inaccuracy so I’ll select just one (semantically) gerrymandered point:
“Major domestic trophy”
You’ve also been to 3 (1FA, 2 League) Cup finals in that time.
If you want to continue your self pity we could explore the oxymoron that is:-
“We have been utter gash in the top flight for decades”

Sadly you come across like the arrogant / entitled cunts up the road (for both you & us)
Or Bob Murray & his ‘1 seat more’ bollocks

(Most) Sun’lun fans of my acquaintance are level headed sensible folk - try not to embarrass them(or yourself) with hyper sensitive tosh

Take consolation from the irrefutable fact that Double Maxim is infinitely better than Spewcastle Brown Ale & chill
Let’s talk about something far more relevant / significant/ interesting:-
Roker Park 16th August 1979 - Sunderland 6 Sheffield United 2 …….. Alejandro Sabella ?!?!?

PS Joe Bolton was / is a God

You are talking about a time when English football was not well supported and if we looked at Sheffield United's attendances at that time it would be interesting too see what we found. Some context around other clubs wouldn't go amiss. At one point Manchester United were down to 35000 - now it's 75000.

English football attendances undoubtedly reached a nadir in the mid to late 80’s, and, notwithstanding that the discussion wasn’t actually about United’s support, we certainly did suffer as most clubs did in that period - the 85-88 period saw the lowest gates in our club’s history.

It isn’t correct to say the same about the early 70’s, though. That wasn’t a time when English football was poorly attended. United, for instance, had their highest average gates since the 40’s in 71/72 season, of 33,189, and plenty of other clubs had similar or higher.

None of that really goes to the main point made about the wild fluctuations between the highest and lowest gates, in any given season.

And, finally, I note the reference to Newcastle and I agree. Frankly, the ill- informed drivel that the media - who seemingly have no recollection of a time before Keegan and Sir John Hall - spew about how wonderful their support is, is nauseating.

It is a one club city, but the population of that city is about 270,000 (same as Rotherham). Sheffield population is at least double that. Though I dare say the demographic make up of Sheffield might be quite different to Sunderland so that could be a factor.

Okay fella, Sunluns a massive club, now can you stop posting 1000 word posts that I won't read because you and Newcastle share a catchment area of 2m people.

Utd and Pigs would be getting 100k a week in that area 🤣

Who cares how many fans you get, I mean who really gives a flying fuck. You come on this board dead aggressive and make a complete fool of yourself. I don't think you will ever read (generally) Blades talking or taking the piss about attendances because we don't regard ourselves as anything more that a medium size club. But if you want a challenge Newcastle are a much bigger club than you. So toddle off, enjoy your defeat at Wembley and make some friends that are pigs whereby you can all talk about how well you are supported all day! Your a very angry man, bet most people steer clear of you!

No surprises considering their home attendance of 45 odd thou the other night. Some will have missed out.
Yet we didn't with the same prize at the end yes myself and daughters were there and will be at Wembley watching a show friday in the west end 😀

Would be suprised in the least if Sunderland fans are in our dearer seats ,find it hard to take tbh

Don't think anyone has any serious gripes with Sunderland, yet a load of their fans seem intent (on here and on X) on creating some sort of dick swinging contest?

Odd. We all know you get bigger crowds than us and always will do. No one is disputing that.
Exactly

All the other clubs don’t live in a football wilderness that Newcastle and Sunderland have for 100 miles just look at the clubs around you Boro apart and that’s 40 mins away

55k plus and one tin pot trophy between them in 100 years plus 4 teams within a 32 mile radius three of which have the glory hunters and one Of them thinks it does- pulling around 170,000 in

and they would've sold more. Way more. Record numbers more and then double it

In fact they've already sold out their next play off final and they don't even know when it will be
With all the landlords and local businesses saying "wow these are the best fans we've ever seen down here ever, especially that Mark in his American Football blazer"

I'd be livid if I was Wednesday fan right now.

As luck would have it in a grown up and selling out tickets really doesn't matter. Who honestly gives a fuck, specially if they have tickets.

Sure I also read somewhere that their fans weren't happy cos anyone with a membership number could buy 2 tickets. Horrible for them if true cos they've got enough season ticket holders to sell their wembley allocation.....but might explain why they are available for resale at extortionate prices. Maybe touts have got hold of some of theirs.
A few folk on here were advocating exactly the same for us, and it would have sold out too.
Some ST holders would then have needed to buy off touts.

Well in the last 27years they've averaged less than 30K on just 3 occasions.

They're a huge club
I think there is a huge link between new stadium size and attendance. Although the mackem on here was poking fun at Leeds average attendance as soon as they get their expanded stadium of 65k or whatever it’s supposed to be their average will shoot beyond Sunderland’s. Similarly if we expanded BL we would put the midweeks ave attendance argument to bed. And I am not going to bracket us with Sunderland or Leeds size wise as not a one club city
