I think the Halford signing is a no-brainer. If he fulfills his early potential then great, if he de-rails then send him back.

Sun Jihai- premiership experience, just hope he's not another journeyman. The cynics would say its because of our far east connections. We are a cynical lot though aren't we? Most Blades who aren't cynical tend to be under 12!:D

I think Halford is a bit of a coup. As to Sun Jihai, I was a fan of Li Tie who was technically the best player at United (Jags), but infortunately had no bite. Sun Jihai does get stuck in, is quick and makes few mistakes. He would be a real good back up to Speed and/or left back.

li Tie didnt make a single league appearance for us so to suggest he was techincally the best player is something of an over-statement in my opinion.

He was a decent deffensive midfielder for Everton from my recollection but he was hardly spraying 30 yard passes, scoring a dozen goals a season or taking players on for fun.

Sun Ji Hi looks similar from what i have seen, i expect there will be games where his deffensive, high energy style combined with his expereince will prove useful but i don't expect him to be a first team regular.

As long as he makes more of an impact that Li Tie then i will be happy.

Just for the record, the statement about technical ability was made by Jags when Li Tie first arrived. I saw him play for China and there is no doubt about his skills on the ball - receiveing a ball in a tight situation, not getting caught and still making a pass; doesn't have to be 30 yds to find a team mate.

From the OS said:
Sun Jihai - the most successful Chinese footballer to play in England - has confirmed that he is delighted to join United.
The utility player, 30, has signed a two-year deal with the Blades following six years in the Premiership with Manchester City:
"I am very glad to have signed with the Blades, and I will give 100 per cent to help the club reach the goal in the new season," he said.
"This is a big club with a lot of quality. I believe United have the ability to play in the Premier League, that is one of the reasons why I joined.
United's Chinese connections helped in securing Sun Jihai's signature after his deal at Manchester City came to an end.
"Two years ago I had a chance to move to Sheffield United, the club offered me a good contract that I was really close to signing. I visited the training ground and everything looked perfect.
Unfortunately, for family reasons, I didn't move at that time, but now it's the best time for me to transfer.
"I have got a friend, Tony Xu, who is the Chairman of Chengdu Blades, and also a national team team-mate in Li Tie who played for the Blades, so for those reasons I have paid a lot of attention to the club."

Roughly translates as "I wanted to sign for United two years ago, but they couldn't justify having two players signed only to flog more shirts in China. Still, I'm here now. Buy buy buy!"

:D:D You old cynic you! Seriously though, if he wasn't Chinese, would you be happy that we'd signed a 30 year old Premiership midfielder with 6/7 years experience in the top flight?

We'll have to see what he does for us on th pitch. I remember the last bloke we got from them was David Sommeil, and he was as much use as tits on a fish.

Oh I know mate, but you can't judge every player by their nationality or previous club! I'm thinking that he's been a good servant for Man City and he's by no means past it. His best years are probably behind him, granted, and he'll not improve much but Blackwell is no mug, Sun Jihai must have impressed him, so I'll wait and see with optimism. Come on, lighten up! The "Sun" is shining! I'm going home. I'm such a gay.
