Summer shopping list and suggestions

I liked the look of Dominic Samuel when he played for Coventry against us last season. Seems to have been doing OK on loan at Gillingham this season and according to wikipedia 12 goals in 28 appearances at our level in the past 15 months and overcoming a spell out with a broken ankle. I think he could link up with Sharp and he's not yet 22.

I too think he looks a prospect. Adkins has also worked with him at Reading BUT…. Adkins made comments about him at Reading about needing to put the work in to be a professional etc. (similar to what he’s said about De Girolamo and Adams this season) so I’m not sure how good their relationship is.

Kelvin Davis is about 70, good chance we may get him.

Thought he was a very good keeper in his prime. Not sure if he can still do it but I suggested him because he was one of Adkins’ success players and also because, as a very experienced keeper who has played at the top level, he could do wonders for George Long’s development.

It's starting to appear like we need to to sort a shopping list of managers out before we discuss a shopping list of players

Back in the summer I was delighted with NA's appointment, thinking he's the best man for the job. I still believe he will turn it around. However, on the flip side, I cannot believe that all the current problems we are currently experiencing are all down to this spineless bunch of players. Responsibility must start at the top and the management team must also accept their share of the blame for what we are currently being served up

Gutted really

As for players, not interested until I know were we stand regards which management team is in place for next season

I think some criticism of Adkins is entirely justified. I’m disappointed he’s not done better with what he’s had at his disposal and that his signings haven’t made a better impact than they have. But as I’ve said before, he’s the first manager we’ve had in an age with a track record combining good, attacking football with success. It would be madness to throw that away without at least seeing whether he can do the business with his own players in.

Gonna throw a few more names into the mix that I wouldn’t mind seeing us in for:-

Nthle (Peterborough)

Traore (Swindon)

Chapman (Barnsley on loan from ‘Boro)

Moncur (Colchester)

Gilbey (Colchester)

Judging by his start to the season, maybe he took the advice on board.

The tiny Otzumer of Peterboro is the player I've seen this season that's impressed me most. Would love to see us sign him & build a team of bigger, stronger (youngish, quick, dynamic) players around him.

And for character & strength, I'd like to see us sign Peterboro's Bostwick too, even if he doesn't meet the young & dynamic criteria, because he's the sort of beast who's been here, seen it, done it in this division.

Oztumer, Lundstram and Basham would be a midfield I'd be happy with. Reed and Hammond as back up. Oztumer impressed me massively at the lane this year and was also exceptional in Peterborough's demolition of Donny back in the autumn. He's little and doesn't seem great defensively so would be very much a signing for a 3 man midfield.

Not convinced on Bostwick though, too many similarities with Hammond for my liking. If it was instead of, then maybe but not in addition to. Too sluggish for my liking.

See what you're saying, Dane. Just that I see Bostwick as much more of an enforcer & a beast. In all honesty, while I'd be happy for Bash to stay here, I wouldn't see him as an automatic starter, more as a squad player. If we do stick with the three at the back though, I'd see Bash as one of the three central defenders, the creative one who brings the ball out from the back, Harry-like.

Very much agree with what you say about the need for a three man midfield with the defensively lightweight Otzumer in there btw.

Uninspiring list, everyone going to be overpriced given none are from outside England and most play for direct rivals. Just get two cheap imported centre backs and maybe a central midfielder as well

He looks a great player, completely ran the show when they beat us the other month. He's the player we were probably hoping Scougall would develop into.

Always looked to play forward, had quick feet, a decent turn of pace and wasn't afraid to have a shot, unlike *include any United midfielder here*

I signed Dominic Samuel on Football Manager. He was ok, one of the top scorers in the championship, but i sold him after 2 seasons to sign Will Keane and James Wilson. Good move because i'm now 5th in the EPL and Wilson has been our top scorer 5 years in a row scoring 25+ every season.

We need to keep Reedy, because i sold him for £4.5m but he went on to be worth £12m and play a few games for England. Che is rubbish, i sold him my first season and he's still never played a game in the top flight. Football Manager knows the truth.

'I thought that anall'

:eek::eek:!!!...........'Is on the summer shopping list! Is a player requirement!!!!':confused:o_O

Two midfield choices for me would be

Jamie Devitt (Morecambe)
25 years old 4 goals 14 assists

Nicky Adams (Northampton)
29 years old 1goal 12 assists

Both have played at this level before and instead of getting someone to step down a league, who might not give their all, players stepping up a league have more to prove and will likely try harder, as they've been shown faith and belief in them by being signed.

As ive said on another thread I think buying best young players from lower leagues is way to go as they'll hopefully be able to motivate themselves in front of a big crowd & in L1. I was doing some research in january to see if their was any young lower league gems heard good things about CB Tom Parkes from Bristol Rovers 24yr old looked solid in conf team of the year 2014/2015 after rovers defence kept 24 clean sheets & done ok this season keeping 10 clean sheets

Isn't he the one that looks like Michael Higdon and Gray Taylor Fletcher's love child?

If I was thinking off the top of my head, baring in mind it's going to be (hopefully) pretty much a clean sheet to work from I'd say:

Tom Eastman (centre half, Colchester) - a jewel in the rotten crown that is Colchester's defence. Would be able to get him for a cut price if Colchester go down.
Danny Mayor (winger, Bury) - no nonsense winger, gets down to the byline, crosses. Scores goals. Pacy.
Andy Williams (striker, Donny) - could go down so we could get a very good striker and partner for Billy for next to nowt
Matty Taylor (striker, Bristol Rovers) - one of the best strikers in L2 comfortably, seen him twice and he's scored both times! Although Bristol under no pressure to sell with new investment

Jamie Devitt (Morecambe)
25 years old 4 goals 14 assists

Don't know much about him but can't argue with those stats. For me this is what we should be doing, cherry picking the best young players from the division below, not looking to bring in ageing journeymen from divisions above just because they have "experience"

There have been times in the past when this has worked brilliantly for us, mainly McCall and Speed. However they had much better players around them, making intelligent runs and allowing them time on the ball.

In this current side we no longer have that kind of quality, so need young, determined players willing to put a shift in. And there's clearly quality in the lower leagues, the fact that Rotherham, and most likely Burton, have secured back to back promotions will attest to this.

A couple of players we could/should be able to realistically get;

Cameron Mcgeehan - Luton Town - 20 years old
Captained Norwich to victory in the FA Youth Cup final, 12 goals this season from Midfield.

Luke Berry - Cambridge United - 23 years old
Played 31 games last season at Barnsley, someone might have seen him play a few times and could offer an opinion. Dropped back to League 2 this season and has 10 from midfield.

Conor Chaplin - Portsmouth - 19 years old
9 goals in 30 appearances this season, brilliant record for someone so young. Could easily be involved in a deal to offload McNulty.

Suggested Chaplin a while back but didn't know anything about the other 2. Chaplin is tiny though. That's the downside. But he's quick and could be a long term replacement for Murphy.

Cameron McGeehan is a very good shout. 12 goals from midfield is sensational at such a young age. We've missed goals from midfield for quite a lengthy period of time now, and to have as much time on side as he has I'd be chuffed if we could get him in.

Roofe and Pierre are decent players by the look of it. Think we might struggle to bring in Roofe as it looks like they'll probably be going up, so unlikely to sell. McGeehan would be a player I'd love for us to take a punt on, and being at Luton you'd like to think we would have to fork out anything north of 100k to bring in. Or in other words, as long as we don't bring in Sammon next season, we should have this saved up for in about 10 weeks, assuming Sammon is probably on about £10,000 a week.

EPL?

Tha needs to put thi box away.

I would release every single out of contract player and send every loan player back (with the exception of baptiste) ....

Never has there been such an opportunity to remodel the squad to such an extent and set the blueprint for next season and seasons to come.

Fully expect us to squander it.

Ntlhe really impressed me at the lane last season. Flynn barely got a kick. Young too. But like you say, if he's had a bad injury then it would be a risk we perhaps can't afford to take.

personal opinion only but starting 11 next season probs be this Long, Brayford, Baptiste, Edgar, Mceverly, Done, Whiteman, Flynn, Hammond, Adams, Sharp. Bench on what we got would be willis, graham kelly, dcl, coutts, k wallace, cuvellier, basham. new players would go for would be kieran lee if we can persuade him (i know hes a pig but hes a damm good midfielder), kemar roofe depending on asking price, jimmy ryan, jamie procter, danny philliskirk, max power on loan if wigan go up

Jamie Proctor?! I think he looks a poor footballer. Just a worse version of Darius Henderson. Muscle and little else. I'm also surprised you'd go for Philliskirk. I don't think he's anywhere near good enough. Lee and Roofe are good players but unlikely IMO.
