Let’s assume the following players are going out

Howard, Harris, Collins, McEveley, Kennedy, Freeman, McGahey, J. Wallace, Cuvelier, Flynn, JCR, McFadzean, Scougall, McNulty, Edgar, Baptiste and Sammon. Let’s assume Hammond is given a deal (because he almost certainly will be). Let’s also assume it is Adkins’; plan to persevere with 352. Who would be on your shopping list? For me we would then require

I’d say that’s the bare minimum that will be required. Probably a couple more on loan or otherwise.

So who do we all suggest to play these positions? Let’s at least try to be a bit realistic. I’ll start

GK-

Alex Cisak (Leyton Orient)

Kelvin Davis (Southampton)

Stephen Bywater (Burton- 2nd choice)

LWB

Joe Skarz (Oxford)

Rico Henry (Wallsall)

Danny Mayor (Bury)

Jon Taylor (Peterborough)

CB

Curtis Nelson (Plymouth)

Nathan Cameron (Bury)

Mark Beevers (Millwall)

Paul Downing (Wallsall)

Ryan Innis (Port Vale)

CM

John Lundstram (Oxford)

Romaine Sawyers (Wallsall)

Jimmy Ryan (Fleetwood)

Jermaine Anderson (Peterborough)

Ehrun Oztumer (Peterborough)

CF

Uche Ikpeazu (Watford)

Sam Winnall (Barnsley)

Keshi Anderson (Crystal Palace)

I think by nailing our colours to the mast nice and early, we can see how our suggested signings do (particularly if any of them come to us). It might also help us to put things into perspective when midway through next season people start saying “we should have signed……”.

It depresses me that we'll be going after the cast offs of Burton Fecking Albion once they've been promoted.

Very good OP. Amazed that anyone knows the players of the lower divisions that well.

Don't we need a thread for Division 2 and a thread for Division 3?

All I can say is that McEveley might be offered a deal if we stay in Division 3. Adkins did make him captain, picked him over Bob and K Wallace, and he's performed well at LB.

Also, my guess is a fair bit of work went into the Baptiste signing - and as others have suggested he might well stay if Boro are promoted.

On the little I've seen - and his history - I reckon he's an early sign of the 'Sheffield United player' Adkins mentioned ie fit, strong, healthy.

Also the 3-5-2 experiment is in its infancy and dictated by personnel available. I reckon given free rein he's likely to go back to 4-4-2 if possible, which might mean selling Done?

Well we have snow white and the 7 dwarfs maybe the summer will bring the smurfs ;)

Good list .

You need to send that list to Adkins and Turnbull , gives them a helping hand .

DOF awaits at the lane for you my friend .

UTB

Adkins' Plan A won't be 3-5-2 if he gets the sort of players he wants. His Plan A will always involve two up front though I think, and therefore probably 4-4-2, which I have no problem with if we have players capable of playing it, capable midfielders being a good place to start.

Danny Mayor and Jon Taylor are right footed attacking right wingers btw, not left wing backs.

On top of what you have said, I would like 2 or 3 out and out wingers, pacey and full of tricks to beat a man, its a big ask hopefully adkins has a few rabbits up his sleeve!

Three perm.
Four loans.

Though I wouldn't be surprised if we used the loan market more aggressively than ever before.

The last window didn't inspire any confidence, nothing's changed to suggest there will be come the end of this season.

Should we somehow achieve promotion, still not impossible, then maybe seven new names wouldn't be enough.

Sorry for poor knowledge of mid table 3rd division players but the wing back from Swindon is one of the better ones.........little black lad, name please might help?.
I would also take hamill from barnsley in middle of park if available

Interesting to see a few ex-Owls on your list 1dane.

Danny Mayor we didn't see enough of to form an opinion, but he seems to have done well at Bury.

Beevers would be a solid centre half for you if he'd sign.

Bywater's great, a headcase in that way that only goalies (or drummers...) can be, proper cult-hero material.

I'd have loved to have had him in the net that time when a Leeds nobhead "assaulted" Kirkland.

Little Leeds get wouldn't have got off the pitch alive...

I liked the look of Dominic Samuel when he played for Coventry against us last season. Seems to have been doing OK on loan at Gillingham this season and according to wikipedia 12 goals in 28 appearances at our level in the past 15 months and overcoming a spell out with a broken ankle. I think he could link up with Sharp and he's not yet 22.

I thought that anall

Like others have said i would like us to go for Jimmy Ryan , George Moncur , Kemar Roofe (unlikely) and I still think Leon Clarke would do us a job in this league for a season .

If we stick with Adkins, expect Hammond to resign, and the rest of the side to begin next season the useless cunts who are still have another year on their contracts, players given an extra year whilst not being deserving of it, and then our summer marque signing based on past form, Jonathon Forte.

If Adkins sticks around I can see us being in for the likes such as George Moncur, Ian Henderson, Aaron Pierre, Ryan Tafazolli, Nicky Ajose, Josh Lillis.

Decent lower league footballers who know this league well or have potential without being spectacular.

It's starting to appear like we need to to sort a shopping list of managers out before we discuss a shopping list of players

Back in the summer I was delighted with NA's appointment, thinking he's the best man for the job. I still believe he will turn it around. However, on the flip side, I cannot believe that all the current problems we are currently experiencing are all down to this spineless bunch of players. Responsibility must start at the top and the management team must also accept their share of the blame for what we are currently being served up

Gutted really

As for players, not interested until I know were we stand regards which management team is in place for next season

I wouldn’t say I know them that well. Most of those listed I’ve probably watched between 2 and 5 times in full games coupled with bits and pieces on highlights shows to form an idea of the type of player and what their strengths are. Then it’s a case of reading reports etc. to find out how they’ve been doing. John Lundstram is an example. I saw him playing for Donny when they got promoted a few years back and thought he had a great future ahead of him. Looked another Kevin McDonald in the making. Always seemed to have time on the ball and be able to pick a pass. Also had a decent frame for a young lad. But then his career seemed to stall and I thought perhaps I was wrong only for him to join Oxford in the summer and by all accounts rediscover his best form (according to reports and articles I’ve seen this season). He’s still young and is a player I’d love to see us sign.

I hope you’re wrong about McEveley. He has played quite well lately but over the time he’s been here he’s demonstrated that he’s not going to be consistently good enough for a promotion push and he’s not going to get any better. There’s not a great deal between him and Wallace at the moment but Wallace has time on his side to improve. McEveley staying means less game time for Wallace and less wages available to strengthen the team.

Regarding the system, I just hope that we decide what system we want to play and recruit in such a way that we execute it effectively. Be that 442, 352, 451 etc. We need continuity and players that are suited to the system they are playing.

I know Taylor is but has been known to play both wings and as you said not so long back, better a winger there with the attacking attributes than a full back. Taylor is quick and tricky and a player I’d like to see play for us. I thought Mayor was left footed. My mistake if not. He’s definitely played on the left quite a bit in his career. Sure the pigs played him on the left and I think, he’s played left back before as well.

PS. I would welcome your input to this thread in terms of player suggestions. I know I’ve given you a bit of stick over the years about Mansett, Brandy, Higdon, Hall etc. but in all seriousness, I always liked the fact you were willing to throw names into the mix that many of us didn’t know too much about and often names of raw talents like Mansett and Brandy that in all honesty could go either way but have the potential to excite fans.

On top of what you have said, I would like 2 or 3 out and out wingers, pacey and full of tricks to beat a man, its a big ask hopefully adkins has a few rabbits up his sleeve!

As Ricky said, Mayor and Taylor are really, by trade, wingers. I just think we could play one in the LWB position if Brayford was on the right and we had the 3 at the back.

Nathan Byrne? He went to Wolves in August. Another I missed off my list that you have reminded me of though is Traore of Swindon. Central midfielder who turned the game in their favour at the lane a few weeks back.

I'd look at Kemar Roofe at Oxford, Romaine Sawyers at Walsall & Marvin Sordell at Colchester

I like the look of Roofe too but think he’ll go on to bigger and better things. Sordell could be an interesting shout. Looked useful at the lane (so did the lad Harriett- winger they had on loan from Charlton).

OP is dreaming if he thinks the club will be looking at those sorts of players.

Think of players in the divisions above, aged 30+ and used to be decent 5-6 years ago, bonus if they worked with Curly Watts at either Scunny, Soton or Reading.

Oh and they must have plenty of grit and endeavour.

I fear you could be right in terms of us continuing to look for surplus players from the league above but this thread is about who we as supporters would like to see the club going after in the summer. All too often, we lambast the club saying we should have signed….. (Dack, Byrne, Ayling, Freeman, Agard, Baker, Johnson etc….). It’s a lot easier to have a go and say what we should have done with the benefit of hindsight. This is a chance to say what we should be doing before the event. In terms of what we will do, I suspect you’re right and that Baptiste, Hammond etc. are the types of players we will sign. They could be effective if we can pluck a few young, mobile, up and coming players to play with them though personally, I would be happy if Sharp, Basham, Coutts, Woolford and Brayford were our veterans and all our new additions were under the age of say 25 as they could grow and improve as a group.
