SUFC vs. Manchester United B

Still no response to my e-mail. I'd imagine they're currently in a extraordinary late night board meeting, examining its every detail and discussing what it means for them, the club and the future of the universe.

Seriously though, while other clubs have made public their vote, for me the fact that United will not say how they voted means two things:

1. They voted in support of the changes
2. At the time they did that they knew full well that the vast majority of United fans would be against it, so they decided the appropriate action was to support it, and keep quiet about it.

Just like the Football League, they're hoping that most people don't notice, and that those who do will forget about it if they say as little as possible.

I wonder whether they'll be proved right.

I asked Foxy (privately) to make a formal request. I don't know if he has done that and if so what response did he get.

What a joke. The "B" teams are only obligated to play 6 under 21s. So if they wanted too, they could play 5 first teamers, of any age. Well, this isnt going to ruin the competition. Nope. Not at all.

Fuckwits.

"The first 16 clubs with Category One Academies that have been invited to take part in the EFL Trophy 2016/17 are Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Middlesbrough, Newcastle United, Southampton, Stoke City, Sunderland, Swansea City, Tottenham Hotspur, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United."

Can you imagine the indignity of having to face Wet Sham's children at their shiny new taxpayer-funded ground? Christ.

Full info here, not that I can be arsed to read it all.

If we had a category one academy, could we enter the tournament twice?

What a load of b*llocks.

EFL Chief Executive, Shaun Harvey said: "The new format is intended to rejuvenate this competition and also assist the development of the very best young players in English football. This will help us deliver more and better home grown players which will deliver benefits to the national team and domestic league football at all levels.

The very best young players in English Football may be better served playing at proper Football Clubs up and down the pyramid rather than being stifled by Prem teams stockpiling all the best talent...They've created the problem themselves by being greedy..why not put some limits on how many players they can keep, and let them develop elsewhere.
I'd say a big 'Fuck Off' to this latest attempt to solve a problem they've created themselves..hopefully it will be a massive failure.

So you could have a club like Morecambe, for example, who could really use the £10k awarded for a win, up against the likes of Vardy or Ayew. PL clubs will use these games to ease the top names back from injury and it could deny smaller clubs a much-needed cash injection.

Absolutely disgraceful. Not seen a single fan say this is a good idea. This was meant to improve attendances, was it not?...

Not only that, but we still have to play 5 players who started the last fixture, so we cant even toss it off or just play our kids......

They just pump out this shit without challenge. It's like saying mass murder is a good idea for environmental reasons.

Not advocating violence but at some point, probably very early on in this experiment, one of the pampered little youth teamers with a hefty value is going to get launched into orbit by a seasoned league 2 centre half. I hope this happens often enough, early enough, for the money men to quietly shelve this idea.
EDIT. I've just re-read this and yes, I am advocating violence. Sorry.

Do yellows and reds count for league games? If not, I'd tell my players to go out, kick the fuck out of them and get sent off. Not just the kids either but any first team players that the opposition decided to play. In fact, them first.

Sounds like a plan. It's demeaning an already shite competition that's meant to give the plucky little clubs a pat on the head and a nice smile, helping to disguise the contempt felt for lower clubs by the upper echelons. A good old-fashioned punt of a Premier League club's teenage prodigy into the stand wouldn't be a bad thing.

This is what I was going to say, get every game abandoned due to lack of players from being sent off. I would possibly even be interested in not boycotting then. Put some youngsters on and get them to be the ones to be sent off so it doesn't affect us in the league either

I'd go further, put some of us out, lets really rip the piss out of this fucking pointless competition ;)

I like this idea, we should have an auction where fans can bid for the chance to play, I reckon the money raised would cover any fine we incurred and you get the chance to play for the blades

"- Clubs will be awarded 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw. In the event of a drawn
game (after 90 minutes), a penalty shootout will be held with the winning team earning an
additional point."

Why? What were they thinking when they came up with this idea?

Presumably to make it more exciting? Saves some 0-0 bore draw if at least you get some penalties at the end

Have always gone to JPT games and enjoy watching young, quality players, but there's no way I'm supporting this shower of shit paving the way for B teams in the FL.

The organisers are going to look like proper fucking idiots when the semi finalists are Middlesbrough, Leicester, Stoke and Southampton's B sides. What's the lowest attendance for a professional game at the new Wembley?

Just boycott it, If we get drawn against a B team.
Only attend if we play a league side.
I realise that will be hard for some fans who attend every game, but it's the only way they will get the message.
Why the FA think I want to see Liverpool , Man Utd, Stoke or bloody Sunderland's reserves or kids I don't.
And couldn't care less about their so called development, maybe if the so called big clubs reduced their squad sizes they could develop their players with out bullying their way into the FLT.
If this is to become permanent then I hope if United ever get to the premiership they refuse to enter.

Why not just have a proper reserve league like we used to? It would give kids better experience than the u-21s and would probably be quite popular these days. Even in the old days we used to get some quite good attendances against the pigs and the big clubs. Now clubs have got massive squads they'd probably play a few well known players to keep them match fit.

I've not missed a game for nearly 2 years, but I won't have a second thought about boycotting the B team game.

I never thought anything would make me not want to watch United play, but this is too far even for me. I'll attend the games against the other league games, but nothing would get me to the other game.

The whole tournament is shite anyway so couldn't care less about it! In fact I'd rather not win it at all, it would always be a constant reminder of how shit we were during this current spell in league one.
