Just a thought, but seeing as though Rooks Mick Rooker is a ‘man of the people’ and the amount of support he got on here last/ this week, he’s clearly respected by the fans and by McCabe. He’s been at the club for 25 years and knows the place and its peoples inside out.

Isn’t he now the logical person to be in the above position.

Many of us here have tried to support Richard Batho and justify his position, but if he is still in the position, then I he’s been awfully quiet for the last year.

Apparently we’re no longer serving burgers and stale bread buns and we have a different ale supplier, so somebody must be listening to the fans...we just don’t see it.

I don’t want to do anyone out of a role at the club, its not the point of this post, but where the club have somebody as well like and respected on both sides as Mick Rooker, then perhaps its worth considering him in a communications role with the fans

He probably doesn’t want it, though... which I couldn’t blame him for! J

I had a few meets with Richard last season - he made it real easy for me to get in touch with him, as and when, and he never 'blobbed' on us (no pun intended Richard ;) )....

But I must admit, you have a good point Swiss. When I started coming to the Lane back in the late 80's "Rooks" was one of the first people I met, usually around what was then the miniscule 'Club shop' and the ticket office. He been there ever since and I managed to have a good confab with him last season when having a get together with Dave McCarthy...

I'd kinda say the roles you mention do seem to 'overlap' in a way. But nevertheless, I'd miss both Richard or Rooks so glad they're both at the Lane for the time being at least.

UTB!

That's it Monty can be assistant groundsman ......................... it has often been said he covers every blade of grass. :D

Amazing isn't it.... Redundancies yet vacancies...

Not really, if you have 10 role previously and 7 roles in the future as a result of a change in employment structure (those 7 roles containing elements of, but not directly correllated to the 10 roles) often the easiest thing to do is put everyone (all 10) on notice for redundancy, and invite them to apply for the new roles.

Net loss will be 3 people.

I must admit for the job Mr Batho is doing, all i've heard from him in the last year is a picture of him in Malta. That's not to say he's doing a bad job, there just seems to be little coming out from him, bit like the club in general really.

I follow him on twitter and don`t get that much through, however that might not be what he is meant to be doing so...

He phoned me last year in response to an email I sent about the whole membership/away ticket fiasco last summer. He ended the call by implying that because I don't go to home games, have a membership or spend money in the club shop I don't give the club anything from a financial perspective so he wasn't really that bothered about what I thought.

Didn't fill me with any confidence; not really ideal for a communications manager!

Stuff like this needs to be fed back to the club, problem is, in this case you'd possibly be asked to feedback to the guy you've had this conversation with.

Utterly ridiculous short-term thinking.

I'd contacted the club about exactly the same issue a year ago, but my email ended up with Mick Rooker who couldn't have been more different than the response you got from the comm manager! Was officially on holiday but phoned me up, argued the case for exiled fans who didn't get so much benefit from the various discounts etc going along with memberships with the club, and was generally v helpful and supportive. As you'd expect from the legend himself. :-)

And to top it all Rooks would then redo the grouting in your bathroom and mow the lawn! :p
