Right, I've popped some Prozak, watched a video about flying geese and had three personal sessions with ITV's own 'Mr Motivator'. I'm feeling POSITIVE. Here are our finishing positions since 2002/3 (and current position this season):

3, 8, 8, 2, 18, 9, 3, 8, 23, 3, 5, 7, 5, 6.

So, in the last 14 seasons, we've been in the top eight places 11 times. And 9th once. Top half finishes in 86% of the seasons since The Battle of Bramall Lane. Surely we're one of the best teams in England, if not Europe! Our fans are almost spoiled by this run of success. What joy we are having in a time that will surely be seen in years to come as the golden age of SUFC.

Although, I have to admit that in the two years that we finished in the bottom half we got releg... [where are those pills again?] ... and those play-off places only really count if we... [Mr Motivator?] ... [MR MOTIVATOR???].

To paraphrase: We finish high up in the league quite often, but that doesn't mean it's fun.

Now! These sessions with Mr Motivator, how much do they cost?

The last time we were promoted Che Adams was 9 years old.

Time before that he was -6.

Tongue in cheek or not, I do find it quite interesting that we've only really had two 'bad' seasons (one of which was in the Prem) in the last fourteen, but yet find ourselves in our current predicament. There can't be any other team in the world with a win % as high as ours over the 15 years without anything to show for it.

This millennium, we seem to have a rule of thumb of:
Good season = Do well for 90% of it but fall heroically (or otherwise) at the final hurdle.
Bad season = Well and truly crash and burn.

I have a feeling that we're going to break that, this season. Bumble along into the play-offs and then win it despite not deserving anything.

It has to happen one day. I've always said that I don't believe we have a play-off 'curse' or similar. It's just that there is a 1 in 4 chance of winning the play-offs, which means that some teams are going to win first time, and some are going to go a lot more than 4 before they win them. I think we'll end up in the play-offs this season, and I think we've got as good a chance as anyone of winning them.

It's nothing like a 1 in 4 chance.

It would be if all you did was chuck a dice at it.

Invariably we end up going into a POf campaign without any goal threat or with some injury crisis or on a run of poor form (limping over the line being the norm) and succumb meekly to our fate.
Remember, not one goal in a POf final in four outings. FOUR blanks! That's utterly pathetic.

......... and yes, we are cursed.

It's the only logical explanation if you take piss poor management out of the equation.
