Instead of comparing his spell at Burton. We all know he’s been there for the last few months

I thought out of Jebbison and Osula the latter was more promising. They both have speed and height but Osula seems more balanced and more prepared to do the donkey work up front. Does anyone on here know anything about Sai Sachdev? Apparently he has moved up from the U18's? He certainly didn't look out of place. The Hull No 5 Festus Arthur looked some player. Must be worth keeping an eye on.

Check Jebbison's movement in the box in the build-up to his goal.

What a name that hull player has.

I'm not saying he isn't a good prospect. He really is but if pushed to choose which one to bring on on Friday I would say Osula. All about opinions of course.

Cool your bones people. The definitive description of that game & JebboWatch takes time. When my Accountant saw that some on this thread were clamouring for JebbInfo, he was insistent I put the Blog behind a Paywall to try & claw back on the investment. Luckily CamelBlade has posted a simple, but accurate, assessment already. Nowt wrong with Jebbison, but Osula looked more mobile & lively on the day. So no point in a Paywall now.
Anyway, some other never seen before fucker turns up with a can of Craft Beer, I pick the brains of a scout, how do we know whether Gomis can defend, Will & Dan Hit The Building. On the Blog if you're interested...

What a squad that is.
Maybe. But, at first glance, the back three look a bit inexperienced. Sachdev had never started at this level, and is used as a conventional right back in the U18s. Freckleton has only been at the club "ten minutes". Turned out nice again after the event of course.

I'm not a big fan of oooohhhh funny name sounds a bit different to Tom Smith wisecracks. As we gather in recruits from a wide variety of backgrounds & cultures, it's not classy to single them out for their names, we need to respect that.

I wonder is the scout you spoke to knew Gomis had spent some of the earlier season on loan in non-league?

Interesting as ever. Also intriguing that the team top are Coventry as they are in the U18s too. They must be doing something right. I wonder if it is team or a handful of outstanding individuals?

Great if you have both and great if you so well but I'm often cautious about results at these levels. When the aim is to eventually produce pro footballers, it maybe the mid table team with 2 outstanding talents could be preferable to the league winning team where everyone if above average but none are outstanding enough to go on and trouble a Championship or Premiership first team.

I'd say you are right when you advise caution on these things. I remember the Man U semi. Maguire went on to have a great career. But the rest? Long has done on, but is reduced to bench warming at Millwall. Eliott Whitehouse has been in the lower divisions and non league but not more. We'll never know how far Kennedy would have gotten but he wasn't so big for a centre half at senior level. Slew had dropped down very far. Was Ironside in there? He's had a bit of a renaissance, forged a career at Cambridge but will probably remain in the bottom two tiers. I'm sure McCabe had that team as our future salvation but only one made it to the top.

Did I also catch on a clip somewhere they Sachdev has this absolutely colossally long throw or am I mistaken?

👏👏 The capital Ss made me laugh.

"Too many pocket rocket box to box titches & not enough Sander Berge esque huge enforcers. He pointed to Oliver Arblaster as an example."
After watching them both:

My chatty neighbour just singled Gomis out as an example of a player he couldn't tell whether he could defend in a game like yesterday's. I did discuss with him that Nix has been on loan at Bradford PA. He wasn't making the point that Nix CAN'T defend. He was making the point you'll never be able to tell by watching him in Academy games.
Coventry. In my opinion. Are doing a lot right. They dominated us in the U23 game at theirs. (Even though it was only 2-0). It's the only time in living memory that our lads were getting ratty with each other. Because they were so frustrated at not being able to get in it. OK, we had some mad team selections that day. Including Harrison Neal as a Centre Back & lots of v young 'uns.

Coventry lads were strong and fit. They were well drilled & switched on. At the time I likened it to cricket. If they move the man at long on into the circle, go over the top. If they bring third man up, ramp or reverse sweep. Hit it where they aren't. In the context of that Coventry U23 game, they had attacking options, inside the wingback or over him, and their choices were always excellent & invariably perfectly executed. They mullered us out wide.

I spoke to one of the parents. He said the kids loved it. In training, they always knew exactly what they were working on, and knew what success would look like. Superbly simple.

(I've got an academic statistical background). I used to say - when you're learning, as well as learning the thing you're learning, you're also learning how to learn. In an Academy context, sure, learn to play a particular way, style, formation, etc, but also learn how to learn how to play a different style. It sounds odd. But it's crucial. From my quick by eye assessment, Coventry do that well.

And sure, it might win games, but it might not produce first team players. That's the balance dilemma. Coventry seem very much to be a team, rather than rely on superkid individuals. I really enjoyed watching them play.

Here's my Blog from that particular Coventry U23 game...

At this level there's a 1 hour radius limit on academy recruitment. Coventry have no competition to the south, really, other than Northampton and within that limit there's Cat 1 academies at Leicester, Villa, Birmingham, Wolves and West Brom.

We're competing with the two Barnsley teams, Rotherham, Doncaster and Huddersfield within 60 minutes as well as Cat 1s at Derby, Forest, Leeds and the two Manchester sides.

Hhhhmmm
From our team yesterday, Seriki, Freckleton, Gomis, Peck, Jebbison, Osula & maybe others were certainly not "recruited" under that rule.
There are more recruitment routes than "bring 'em in at age 12"

I should have pointed out that (AFAIK) the 1 hour rule only applies for U16s. We've certainly widened our radius in terms of youth recruitment above that in recent years, Belehouan, Łopata, Lankshear, Amissah, Ayari, Ndiaye, Starbuck & Buyabu all came from further afield (nb - I know you know that already).

I think this is correct:
Jordan Amissah - Dortmund
Femi Seriki - Bury
Nicksoen Gomis - Évreux
Daniel Jebbison - UK Football Trials (moved from Canada in 2017, joined us in 2018)
Sydie Peck - Arsenal
Will Lankshear - Arsenal
Miguel Freckleton - Mangotsfield, formerly at Bristol Rovers
Kacper Łopata - Brighton
Will Osula - Man U
Hassan Ayari - UK Football Trials
Iliman Ndiaye - Boreham Wood
Jili Buyabu - AFC Hornchurch, formerly at Chelsea
Joe Starbuck - Grimsby Town

I’m fairly sure it’s a 90 minute rule once they are aged 12 as well, then abolished at 16 as you say. If you’re a cat 1 academy (not relevant to us I know) then the rule doesn’t apply at all as far as I’m aware.

We scout down here a lot. Had a few lads from near me on trial or sign for academy. Turns out they are from the town our national scout is based in.

Dug out this podcast with our national scout who finds kids for the academy down south. Interesting listen as to how it all goes on
