Went to York last season to watch Spennymore Town as I have a mate from Spenny and was interested to see Amissah play in goal. York fans were nice blokes and had a good chat on the bus but I didn't like their stadium at all. Although the bus service is good, the stadium is in the middle of nowhere, no pubs nearby just a cinema, bowling alley car park and the usual food outlets. The stadium itself is modern and sterile. It took an age for us to get in as on the day they were accepting cash only. The view from the away end was very poor - too low and you can't have a pint and watch the game as you can in many non league grounds. Give me a ground like Alfreton any day!

Ill informed speculation as to "why York?"
The first trial for a York bar
Some deets on the U21 format
McBurnie Watch, loves a corner, hates a goal kick
Senior SUFC Coaching Staff vs The Carrier Bag Firm - all the stats
No stream of course for this one. But, some clips and highlights posted above by others (thanks)

Please have a look at my Blog if you've a mind. (And please consider subscribing (free) from the link)

I am reliably informed that we only managed to play TWO U23 home 21/22 league games at Chesterfield anyway - due to availability, rescheduling etc

Good read that, Phil 👍

Nice report Phil. York certainly has some lovely parts. Plenty of opportunities to refer to any defeat as a shambles 😏

I’ve been quite impressed with Sachdev.

Important we don’t ruin him by getting ahead of ourselves but it would be nice to see him make the next step. Perhaps he’s one of those we keep within the club or perhaps he gets to end the season at tier 6 to see him ticking over.

Obviously we are not party to fitness reports but there are a few players so far conspicuous by their absence - Peck, who I understand may have a knock, Lankshear, Brooks, all of which were regular fixtures in the U23s last season. Any explanation as to why Barrett has somehow jumped over Williams who I thought didn’t look out of place last year when stepping up and has a good physique?

Obviously early in the season but perhaps one or two lads are being lined up for loans?

Still no Kacper. Has anyone updated his situation?

Brooks on loan at BPA.

So annoying with Lopata. There's a pathway to the first team for him as Egan won't last forever. If he's got enough ability all Lopata needs is more experience.

He's said himself that the club and our coaches has helped him enormously, so why not go along with the club's plan for him?

I hope posters will forgive me, particularly you, because I love interacting about Academy players. But, increasingly, I find I'm not in a position to answer questions about stuff surrounding Academy players - age, contract, injuries, pecking order, loans, background, previous clubs, etc.
tbh those sort of details started to get in the way of me enjoying match days. I'm going to be a 90 minutes man from now on.

You're general points are right, there's going to be a lot of jockeying for position, things will be tried out, and it might settle down a bit. Peck, Lankshear (and Brooks) were all in the stand at York. I had to warn 'em against Sunburn at one point. And correct them that the Sun does not move, it's the EARTH.

Great read, thanks. What’s Sachdev’s background? Is he a natural wingback?
I've not much to add to what others have said. At his age, he's not a natural anything. Still learning the game and may be tried in other positions. Either because they think he IS suited somewhere else. Or because they think he ISN'T suited somewhere else. Coaches will occasionally put a player in a different role, and maybe not mention that until the dressing room, so that they can see how he fares outside his comfort zone. Put him under pressure. See what's he got in his head.

But, yes, Sai has normally set up as conventional right back (U18s who have primarily played as a four) or right wingback (U23s primarily as a 3 with wingbacks)

Sadly it looks like a case of a young lad not having any patience. Agree that there's a pretty clear path for the that central spot in the back 3 if he were to bide his time.

It's tricky for Academy players. I take the point about him primarily playing in the centre of a three. But, he's seen Utd sign two central defenders over the Summer. And he'll know the reputation O'Connell has if he can get fit. And Kyron Gordon has been selected ahead of him. He's seeing his route to the first team with more & more bodies in the way.

Fans clamour for signings & competition for every position. Fine, up to them, but as a mathematical equation, that blocks the path for Academy youngsters.

Do we know for sure that he has not been injured?
his contract I assume expires this year with no option to extend?
seems that we do value him or we would not have offered a new contract, or it is not as good as he expects, or is it that he thinks he is a better player than we think. No doubt he has all the physical attributes but has he the mental attitude required.

from what I have seen of him I hope he can be persuaded to sign
