After an amazing start it seems to have gotten tighter for the u18s and u21s.

Perhaps the younger lads getting called up to the first team has had a domino effect.

Interesting that we’ve brought a trialist GK in for the 21’s doing a favour for someone or someone who’s just too good to turn down? With Faxon not going out on loan and us bringing Molyneux in in the summer you’d think we’re very well stocked at that spot at the moment.

Great stuff. All bodes well for the future, particularly with so many of this age group in the first team squad or out on loan. I continue to be gobsmacked when anyone knocks a 2-1 (or 1-0) win. A win is a win is a... [repeat ad infinitum]. Sometimes the 'wins' are full of glory; sometimes the 'wins' are grubby. Often the wins are just about 'doing the business'. Long may it continue! There are many who wish they'd got what we've got.

United's Under 21s picked up another three points on the road at Crewe Alexandra thanks to goals in each half from forward duo Jevan Beattie and Marshall Francis.

Interesting that we’ve brought a trialist GK in for the 21’s doing a favour for someone or someone who’s just too good to turn down? With Faxon not going out on loan and us bringing Molyneux in in the summer you’d think we’re very well stocked at that spot at the moment.

My guess is that they feel you can't be too thorough in that position in our circumstances. They'll be looking ahead to post Adam Davies. And thinking who might have a shot at being The Bench Keeper in the future. The same trialing keeper started for the 18s on Saturday.

In our circumstances as a "striving" club. Always in some relegation, play off, promotion race or another, we find it MUCH easier to rely on experienced back up. The natural position is experienced players as back up keeper, back up centre back, back up "key" midfielder. I get that. But it sees potential players sliding off the first team bench back to the 21s. Jamal Baptiste is a good current example.

It always looks "a big gamble" to have a youngster as the back up keeper on a regular basis.

Wilder certainly values experience like you say especially at key positions and you can understand why the pressure to deliver and deliver now is very much on.

Some of the leading lights out of the 21’s have found themselves in a sort of halfway house as a result not first choice back ups but also not far enough down the pecking order that we’re comfortable letting them out on loan. It’s a tricky spot to be in and it’s hard for them to breakout of that place in the squad when their opportunities are so limited
