I’m gonna say something highly controversial to the carrier bag firm. Put Sidney peck forward. Im not 100% that’s even how to spell his name but having watched that, the lad does seem to have everything technically to achieve at championship level. The players he was taking on wouldn’t be any better suited if they were higher up the pyramid. It’s not about the opposition at this point it’s about himand I think he’s got it. The very worst you can do is try.

No offence but Phil has a habit of saying ‘NO! Leave them where they are, they need at least another 6 years at it; and even then the job of the academy isn’t to produce players for the first team it’s to keep the CBF in business!!’ But these arguments would have been disastrous for Brooks or Maguire. Sometimes, you have to just see that someone is performing massively above the level and give them a go. I don’t say this lightly like 80% of the good u18 side will make it but with someone like him, come on. He’s way too good. Drop him in, he can’t perform any worse than most of our players have for most of the season and we will have a worldie on our hands.

Please don’t take offence Ball_Sup (Phil) I’m not shitting on you I just know you have your thing and you’re borderline protective over some of these players because you’ve seen a lot more of them than us and I really respect that but come on, he’s too good isn’t he?

I’ve had a drink so forgive me but I recall you saying we shouldn’t put Brooks in because he wasn’t ready and Jebbison was a raw diamond and he scored within 5 minutes of his premier league debut so I think there is certainly wiggle room here!

I am on record in saying I would happily sacrifice league points & position in order to see United use more of our youngsters in the first team. And that I recognise & accept that is a very minority view. Effectively, the owner & the board have come around to my way of thinking now. Get your Googling Guns out and find any suggestion from me that they shouldn't put Brooks in. I feel they waited a year too long. Time & time again I have said that our roster is blocked. That we have historically signed players, unnecessarily, to build an ever bigger queue of players in front of our own Academy lads. So that the first team looks ever further away from them. I even created a long running thread "Unofficial Roster" to demonstrate this.

Of course I don't/won't take offence at what you say. Happy to hear it. It's great that Blades can lick their lips & lose their shit at our Academy prospects. Youth Cup games are fucking brilliant. Just crazy. Anything can happen & summat will. Highlight of the Carrier Bag Firm social calendar. And I'm so pleased that this week's game has put Sydie front & centre in people's thoughts.

But, take a simple step back, do you really think it's sensible to judge any player on one streamed game & a highlight reel based on less than ten games. And conclude he's already Championship level?

But, I hear you, maybe I'm not getting it right. I'll check myself, I want to be positive & encouraging about our Academy prospects. You keep saying your stuff, more power to you.

Amen to that

I'm with you, I'd take a hit to results to give youngsters more chances. It works out in the long run.

Callum Hiddleston has always looked very calm and assured when I've seen him and I was very impressed with young Charlie Staniland in midfield (and later at right-back).

We have a pretty good record of nearly bringing goalkeepers through the ranks: Long, Willis and, going back a bit further, Annerson. Let's hope one of the current set makes it.

What a night. I absolutely love the Youth Cup under lights at The Lane. I've savoured writing this one up. A call to arms for Goodison Park. CBF Cramp Bingo. Birthday Shout Outs. The only moment of calm as they look for the Social Media photographer. And a 4.25 Beer. If you'd like to read...

Hopefully some of these lads make it, I'm sure there is a really talented bunch in the United set-up. I wish I would of played but I was too stupid, back then.

One of the Millwall lads made his debut last night. He gave our defence some problems - didn't realise he was so young.
