'Successful Loaned Players ?

Kyle Bartley went on to play in the Premier, whIch I would suggest is a measure of success.

Taking it the other way round, the biggest failures who had stellar careers before being loaned to us, both have very large noses.
Ian 'useless bastard' Rush and Phil 'I'm not going to get injured' Thompson, were big stars who were pathetic at the Lane.

Rush and Thompson came to us when they was all but finished,

On the other side we was lucky to see veterans at the end of their career, such as Cowan, McGrath and McCall, then the best of the lot, the 40 year old Gary Speed who still looked and played like he was 25.

Stephen Quinn's the first one that comes to mind. Ended up being a pretty decent player for us I thought. Gave him to the Millers for nothing (along with maybe one or two others?) and really helped them out that season, something they forgot about only a few years later when they lorded it over us in league one after beating us and later on going up. Understandable I guess given the Sheffield dominance in the region. Still annoyed me though!

Can't think of any young lads that came in that were decent that haven't been mentioned, maybe Danny Webber but don't think he was a kid at the time. In terms of older lads, Andy Reid coming in was a cracking loan signing, looks like he only played 9 league games for us but I remember him looking brilliant. The worst we ever had in by some distance was the season before, and we somehow decided he'd be worth bringing back the season Reid was with us. Nyron Nosworthy. Hopefully that season taught the club to never again be so rash and careless regarding excessive, crap loan signings! (Reid apart of course)

For the Millers it wasn’t entirely surprising they lauded it over us when they beat us and went up that year. The biggest barometer of success for them when they are on parity or higher than either of the Sheffield clubs. I was happy for us to give them a bit of a helping hand when they needed it, and if you speak to most Millers fans, they respect us more than our cross city rivals because we helped them out whilst the other lot didn’t, I’m also happy to see them enjoy a bit of success because they are a cracking little club.

True enough mate, I also like them a lot and have good mates who support them. Maybe I just felt a bit betrayed at the time :D

We signed him permanently in a swap deal, think it was either Tiler or Hutchison, and don’t think he ever made an appearance for us

It was the Hutchison deal, but he didn’t start a game till Bruce took over, and till Bruce’s retirement and a slight injury crisis brought him into the reckoning.

He was as I recall a player that some fans would constantly say on message boards and P&G should be given a chance (despite knowing bugger all about what he was like), mainly because our defence generally looked shocking. He only played one or two games in the end, and turned out to be predictably disappointing. I think he featured in the bonkers cup game at Notts County that we won after extra time, in which our defence was appalling.

Simon Tracey had four different loan spells out (to Man City, Norwich, Forest and Wimbledon) when Alan Kelly was lodged in the first team spot. He always came back strong (even though his loan spells themselves weren't always successful!).
