Theres a few players on our subs bench that ive not heard off so im intrested in who they are and wondered if you guys knew anything off them

Theres name and squad numbers are

25 George Long
30 Kingsley James
35 Jordan Slew
36 Matty Harriott

George Long : 16 year old keeper
Kinglsy James - defender, played in the league cup against Hartlepool
Jordan Slew : Forward, made a couple of appearances already
Harriott: No idea

Matty Harriott is the stand out player in midfield for the academy, he plays it very simply rarely losing the ball, he is always available and usually has found himself 5 yards space to do so. He has a good shot on him. The downsides are he is not big (but is quite strong at academy level) and does not possess real pace. The keeper is a good shot stopper and brave, however his decision making can be a bit suspect, he totalled one of the piglets to give them a pen and got them back into the game.

Yes, They're all academy lads

Nice.

In my humble opinion id put em on against villa and give them a run out because with the rate our players are dropping were gunna need them fairly soon

Dont look now but its slipping away from us

Harriott came on as a late sub for Willo when we were 2-0 down. Looked tidy enough, but didn't spend enough time on the ball to make a proper judgment.

Great for his development though, to be part of a comeback like that!

The data for the players is normally very high quality and researched over the period of the year but finding data for young academy players is often very difficult.

I think it was Harriot who headed the ball into the box to then be headed back by someone else to nod into Boggy's feet, was fairly quiet, but there was no pressure on him, we were 0-2 down at home so things couldn't have got any worse. Seemed keen to get involved and looks a fairly big lad.

I know he had little choice due to player shortages, but well done Micky for giving them a go, albeit just to fill the bench, but he gave Parrino a start and got Harriot his debut.

A lot of the information is readily available on the official SUFC website.
Slew has already made two appearances as a sub this season, and has been on the bench a few more times.

Where have you been?

Great to see and I hope that at least 2 of them can step up and get in the squad every week, even when we aren't struggling for players. A couple of local lads and MA rousing the troops could be the kick start that every one wants.

Thanks for the heads up but i pay barely no attention to the academy or the subs bench and has far has the websites concerned whats written on paper/website doesnt realy indicate how they perform on the pitch

Fair enough, but you said you'd not heard of them.

Some people on here complain that the official site never gives them any info. When it does come out with a statement it's all spin and lies. I find it a useful source of information.

i agree it can be useful at times but it would be a tad bit better if they kept us informed on injury, transfer, finacial news

They do :)

I suspect the 'info' you're referring to comes under 'speculation' which you're never going to get on an O/S of any club.

I actually said when he came on that it wouldn't do him any good to be thrown into the middle of a demoralising Derby defeat. How wrong I was!

There were also grumblings from others around me that Adams was changing the midfield rather than the attack, but that worked out ok too.

Playing ten men, it's usually the midfielders who become more important. They can stretch the opposition and they'll arrive unmarked in the box. Besides, it's not like we had Brian Deane on the bench.

A few years ago the official site had written profiles of all the academy players, but this season we've often known nothing about the youngsters before they've popped up on the pitch for the first team. Now our links with the foreign clubs have been cut hopefully the OS writers can focus more on the players and staff at Sheffield United.

Is this the sort of thing you're after:-

No mention of James, Chappell or Harriot who've all been in the first team squad. Maybe they're in a different age group?

If you want to know about our youngsters, you're probably better off getting Footy Manager 2011.

In fact, I've actually read that some managers actually use it as a scouting aid, especially from the lower leagues.
