I couldn’t resist sharing this cartoon for Xmas. December 1954, Everton V United, and the programme had a rather splendid cartoon, which was very welcoming to the Blades, as Everton had beaten Wednesday 3-1 the previous week.

And it turned out all the sweeter because United won 3-2
Merry Xmas!

I'm sure I've told this story before. A crowd of us used to go out on a Tuesday night for a couple of beers. We decided one year to put a fiver in each, each week and take the wives out for a slap up meal at Christmas no expense spared. It was such a success, we did it every year from then on. One year, one bright spark decided to buy the wives a cuddly toy and put it by the place settings on the table. The other wives were quite shocked when Mrs Norks saw the cuddly owl and drop kicked it out of sight.
I was actually quite impressed.

The tradition stopped a couple of years back. Too many of the party had died.
