It all seems to have gone a bit quiet on the loan striker front. Are we still actively searching?

I'm sure it is a priority for Clough. He must see, just as clearly as we do, that goalscorer is the main ingredient missing from this team and could make or break avoiding the drop. I just hope that we're not planning to make do with Baxter/Porter as our main attacking outlets after some positive results over the last few weeks.

Anyhoo, here's a few suggestions - let me know what you think.

Steve Davies (Blackpool) - OK scoring record at Derby, Clough seemed to rate him. Decent with Bristol. Doesn't seem to be getting much of a shout with Blackpool, so might be worth a punt?

Jeffrey Schlupp - I know he's been mentioned a few times, but he has proven that he can score at this level (6 in 9 apps for Brentford on loan). He's only managed 16 league apps this season for Leicester, so could be looking for a bit more time on the pitch. Appears to be mobile & strong.

RIcardo Fuller (Blackpool) - Bit of a tosser, like. But not consistently starting with Blackpool and has 'some' height/pace about him.

Peter Lovenkrands (Birmingham) - Not starting much at Birmingham, but could surely bag at this level(?) Granted he's getting on a bit, though.

Steve May (St Johnstone) - He's Scottish, which would seem to make him a Blades target by default. He's scored a lot of goals wherever he's been. It will probably be a case of a loan with view to sign *Insert inflated fee here* and a condition that he cuts his hair upon arrival.

Any more?

Steve Davies more than likely.

Not sure Clough has time for a dickhead like Fuller.

In an interview last week, Cloughie said they would wait for the target club and striker to agree terms in which case he will arrive.

If there's no agreement this week, we move on to the next target.

I suspect money is the issue and there's no guarantee anything will be done quickly.

I've no idea on the player or club, no one seems ITK on this one.

Frustrating.

Clough has recently signed a new striker called Chris Porter II. He scored two on his debut yesterday and only played 6 minutes.

The signing was made possible when Chris Porter I was released and as Chris Porter II was unattached the FA allowed the deal to go through

Agree re Fuller, strongly doubt he'll have the nads for a league 1 relegation battle.

I think Davies might be worth a punt. Can win/hold the ball, but still mobile enough to cause defenders trouble by running at them. Baxter struggles to make up the ground when we need to get men in/around the box during a break.

Ah, didn't catch that particular quote last week. However, it's reassuring that we are in talks with targets.

It is. Looks like we'll have to sit tight. Hopefully there'll be something sooner rather than later! UTB

Does clough like Paynter? Against Shrewsbury he chose not to even bring him on or is he just getting fit in the background? Either way some good names suggested Bobby, just need to get one of them in asap to help us in the league!

Must be fitness. Looked decent against Bradford but was blowing out of his backside after 60 mins.On another note, I'm also surprised Diego didn't get a run out against Shrews, it would have been great to see him for 15 mins. I'm sure he'll make an appearance soon.

How many more strikers can we afford without getting rid of some. We have Porter,Paynter, Murphy, Miller and Baxter. I'd settle for playing Murphy alongside Porter with Paynter and Miller as a back-up pairing, having Baxter just behind them......but if we were to sign Drogba.............

He's usually up at the crack of dawn these days

Its oright thinking of strikers but look at the lack of pace we have upfront.. Porters ok, his height is his strong point, Paynter thus far has proven a dud signing to me.. slow and too easy to close down.. baxter I will not even get into.. when he went LM against Bristol the other day he looked even more useless than when he was upfront.. and Murphy for me is a wing man.. pacey and can pick out a good spot at goal where the keeper isnt.. id say get rid of baxter and paynter and bring in a decent 25/26 year old whos found his form..
