So Everton are supposed to be the team we were targeting for a first win.But they were no mug’s whatsoever and their pace and power overwhelmed us at times.I really can’t fault our efforts up to now and I’m reluctant to start criticising small errors too much as we are having to do so much defending.Anyway my point is I think even the lower end clubs wolves ,Everton and Fulham etc are still packed with talent that walks in our side. It’s going to be all on for any of the promoted clubs to stay up this year but I think we’ll give it a right go.Hope fans stick with the team because it’s a really tough one.

Well i think after 4 matches even though we have not won there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel . We were unlucky at Forest and played ok Man city game . If not for Pickford would have got our first win today .Dont forget this is nearly a new team which as time goes by will get better also we have McAteer to come in so nothing to worry about yet .Sure we are on a learning curve .Things will gell only worry is our injury list which is unreal but according to MOTD not as bad has Evertons who have three injured .

Everton were absolutely desperate to win that game, they were fired up and came at us with high tempo, aggression, attitude and power, there was no way they were going to knuckle under to us and they did enough to win,but they couldn't beat us and could have lost.
Some other teams will not bring that, maybe have an off day or not fancy it,this is when we have to take our chance, but for sure there is no way we can go below yesterday's performance standard and expect to get anything, and indeed we need to go higher and put in 90 minutes of everything we did for 45 yesterday, increase the pace and power and cut out the defensive lapses, and only then will we even have half a chance of surviving

We are playing in the “best league in the world”

There are no mugs at this level. Likely only two or three games this season where we’ll be favourites to win.

Injuries and late transfer dealings mean we are a little behind fitness levels and a gelled squad.

But…

Palace - awful line up cost us
Forest - good value for a point, but lost
City - could have stole a point
Everton - draw, could have snatched a win

Sat on one point, in another world we could be on 5 points

We will likely improve as time passes. Even after 4 games we’ve still McAtee and Thomas to come into starting 11. Strengthening us considerably again.

We’ll need to keep competitive, take our chances, avoid defensive mistakes and generally be at our best to avoid relegation.

It’s going to be a tough year and we need to enjoy the ride!!

Hi Stegosaurus here,

I agree. I said all along Everton are a good side, it's just they have a dinosaur as a manager. Get ride of Dyke, and they'll be fine.

Wolves --- O'Neil is a question mark. Good job at Bournemouth, middling start to Wolves (unlucky against Man Utd, piss poor vs Brighton, good win vs Everton). They have a good side, and I think they will be fairly comfortable.

It's between us, Luton, Burnley and Bournemouth for the drop.

The manner of the goals we are conceding is quite disappointing, especially the 2nd goal yesterday. I do think Trusty and Thomas will improve the back 5 and we can get back to what we are good at.
With McAtee to come into the midfield and I think we are good in that department.
I really like the partnership of McB and Archer upfront.

Wes
Anel Egan Trusty
Baldock Souza Hamer Thomas
McAtee
McB Archer

That’s a decent starting 11 that can hopefully pick up those 10 wins required for safety.

Davies, Bogle, Larouci, Bash, JLT, Norwood, T Davies, Slimane, Traore, Osula,

Looking at our potential bench of ‘fit’ players above (I’ve named 10) I’d like to see another forward brought in from the free agent market. It was clear that Hecky wanted another forward so hope there’s something that can be done. Jovetic has been mentioned before and I think he’d be a good edition.

Unless there are some pleasant and unexpected surprises for us in the next few months,
we need to target the full 12 points from Luton and Burnley plus 6 more wins at home, Wolves,Bournemouth,Forest,Brentford,Fulham, plus a shock win.
That would put us somewhere close with any away points a bonus.

Hi Stegosaurus here,

Given the shitness of Luton, us, Burnley and Bournemouth---I could easily see this being a year where each team that goes down finishes below 25 points. I can't see where Luton are going to pick points up. Burnley look shitter than us. It's between us and Bournemouth for slot number three.

We've got a big job on finishing above that one additional team after Burnley and Luton. Every one of them has considerably more talent and athleticism than us. Everton are one of these. They were beatable, with McAtee I think we would have beat them, but the difference physically is stark and this will be the case with the others too

We need Souza, Hamer and McBurnie to stay fit for 30+ games in order to compete and have a chance

The Premier League is strong, there's no getting away from it, but at the end of the day we just don't look like we've got the quality.

Our midfield still seemed to have massive gaps in it which allowed Everton too much space, and that's with two holding midfielders and the upgrade of Hamer.

Up front we have no one anywhere near the level required outside of Mcburnie and Archer (who probably aren't even Premier League quality themselves). Just look at what Beto brought to the table yesterday.

At the back we're not exactly solid either, which was supposed to be our strongest department.

As much as some people don't like to admit it, the jury's still out on the manager as well. It's plainly obvious already that we don't seem to have a system or style of play (as we didn't really last season). This element is where we differ massively to the last time we got promoted.

Maybe it's me but the Premiership does seem stronger this time around even after 4 games, but the reason might be the teams we have played have all had settled sides with only probably 1 or 2 additions to their sides.
We have had a shocking Pre-Season probably the worst by any side in the Premiership, we have made 9 signings and lost our two best players, plus some of our new signings and our own players haven't had a Pre-Season at all.

Like others have said this team needs to gel and quickly. We need to move the ball quicker and stop giving the ball away too easily.

We can get better, could you say the same about Palace, and Everton, not saying we will get better than them but I would say we have the potential too be the side that could improve the most out of all the Premiership.

This is where we find out if Heckingbottom is a good manager he'll need some luck on the injury front though.

The premier league has got stronger, we’ve not hit the ground running, but the gap looks bigger for all the promoted sides as well as those distanced at the bottom end

The physicality is clear. We’re a small side in comparison

I don’t think it helps when officials are afraid to challenge the established teams. A number of inconsistent decisions in the last few weeks that it does appear to be one rule for us and we don’t seem to get much in the way of benefit of the doubt

It’s going to be a long hard season, but we’ve certainly got more quality across the pitch

By the way it’s easy to put these defensive errors under a microscope but just take a look how many Burnley are shipping. The league is just too good.

Three weeks or so ago, Ndiaye and Berge gone, pretty much only Traore, Larouci and Slimane signed, and Bash, Osborn and Norwood starting in midfield, it didn't look great really did it? Not the players fault but Christ it looked like we were in for a long, embarrassing trudge this season.

We've now got the makings of a side. Souza, Hamer, Archer, McAtee, Thomas coming in and McBurnie looking sharp and up for it..... there's more than enough signs there (as there have been in the performances) for hope. We've suddenly got a fighting chance - surely that's something to cheer you a little?

You spelt "us" wrong......you should have spelt it "you".
