Just to play a little bit of Devils Advocate:

Billy Sharp - 191 league goals, never scored a Premier League goal.
Darren Bent - 176 league goals, 106 in the Premier League.

I love Billy Sharp, I really do, but most of his career goals have come in the 3rd tier of English Football (104) with 9 more in League 2. 55% of his goals are in the 3rd and 4th tier.

60% of Darren Bent's goals were scored in the Premier League.

Another case of delusion creeping in at S2 if you think that Sharp is better than Bent.

Like you say delusion, no one is suggesting we break the bank and sign Downing and Bent on £30k a week each. But it is obvious (to me anyway) they would improve our squad if they decided to take a big pay cut.

We're talking former England internationals who have played for some big clubs in the Premier League over many years. They are now somehow crap, but players who have spent the majority of their careers in League One and the Championship are better players?!?

To me it's like saying we don't want Jags back because Basham and Wright are better.
