Interesting article in Sunday Times on Steve Walsh who recruited Kante, Vardy, Mahrez et al for Leicester. He's now director of football at Everton and aiming to implement a similar overhaul.

He 'issued an order' to 'find the best 5 or 6 players at an age I can invest'. He has high hopes that DCL a 19yr old with power and pace snared from Sheffield United for £1.5m can be the next to break through.

Given his track record let's hope we've got a good sell on clause !

Good guy Steve Walsh . However if DCL doesn't work out for Everton , so what . They can speculate to accumulate on young players , and if it doesn't work out losing £1.5m is peanuts to them , drop in the ocean money terms .

If DCL was that good he would have been in our first team . IMO Everton have done us a big favour on a untried and tested youngster . Power and pace mean nothing if you cannot finish . Time will tell , but Wilder IMO got the best of the deal .

I'm sorry but I don't share this good luck to the lad stuff - I know its Tylers Joke etc. Don't get me wrong I'm sure he's a decent lad and we got a decent for a untried youngster etc. But I just don't get moving to Everton, and therefore consigning himself to reserve football as he has been all season, when he would have definitely played for our first team this season, even if it was just on the bench, I'm sure with Clarke been injured too an Adams leaving that he would have played quite a lot. Also I'd understand if wasn't local but he is a Sheffield lad and supposed Blade. Can any of us here honestly say we'd rather play for anyone other than United, certainly as a breakthrough.

No doubt many will say that its easy for me to say not been in DCL's shoes but even if he wasn't a Blade I'd be very reluctant to make a step up when you haven't even made the breakthrough at your present club. You hear articles all the time how the Academy football isn't anywhere the same as playing proper mens football and is not like we'e at a bad standard, its a decent level for a young pro to make their breakthrough.

Errr, he's played for their first team a few times. Including in a Merseyside derby.

Any kid in his position would've been mental not to accept the move.

I'd be very reluctant to make a step up when you haven't even made the breakthrough at your present club

Don't you think that's a very good reason to take a big fat contract when it's offered to you?

If there's any issue to have it should be with United for selling him.

Good luck to DCL. He's the polar opposite of Che Adams.

I don't blame the lad Everton obviously will be paying him much more than we would and sometimes you have to cash in. Same thing happened with Maguire you can secure your future with 2 seasons on premier league wages provided you live relatively sensibly and do a Lee Hendrie. DCL was hardly getting loads of gametime here and who's to say he ever would so whilst is value is high I can't blame him like it or not it's a profession

Hahaa, very amusing. Also, 'hope' and Sheffield United go hand in hand, it's the hope that kills you in the end....

He was the player in our youth team I was most excited about. He was watched regularly by Duncan Ferguson and David Unsworth when breaking through . The recommendation no doubt came from former SUFC Head of Academy Coaching, David Unsworth, who saw him break through the youth ranks. He went more or less straight into the Everton's matchday squad, until a bad ankle injury.

People said Slew should definitely have stayed and played first team football for us, but the reality is he'll probably never see money like his Blackburn transfer again.

Is DCL's power similar to Che Adams' pace, ie. taking the same form as Dean Hammond's work?

True, but he might've also wanted to play professional football... seeing as though he was a professional footballer. I'm sure many of these failed players would give a lot of the money back for a season or two playing football rather than just tossing it off in the reserves with no chance of making it through to the first team

Lewin was on Evertons bench and had some good late game time before he got a bad injury from which he has only just recovered.

I should add, more bench and game time than any of our other youngsters this season.

Good luck to the lad.

I think it could be one of those deals that was right for both clubs. The lad has potential but wasn’t at a level to significantly improve our team yet. Everton can afford to carry youngsters like that and see if they make it whereas we needed the money to assemble a team capable of promotion. Everyone is a winner to some extent although it is a shame we don’t get to see our best young players mature with the club, it’s provided us a platform to finally leave this god forsaken league behind.

In his defence, he’s been on Everton’s bench and made a few appearances before getting injured after an initial brief spell in their U23s.

He probably thinks he can learn a lot under the likes of Ronald Keoman and playing alongside the likes of Romelu Lukaku too.

Think most people would agree that he's had more game time at Everton this season than he would've got here, so can't fault the move.
Just hope the sell on clause is hefty.

Slew is playing professional football, just at League Two. And if he were up to it he could still play above that. If he'd played half a season for us, not been good enough, and dropped down, he'd be in the same position as now with a few extra games and far less money in his pocket. We all dreamed of being professional footballers but I don't think that means you can ignore the practical reality of what that money means.

It's a simple equation for me.

If we have a nice sell on clause - good luck to the lad, here's to a big move next time round. Kerching.
If we have no sell on - go rot in the reserves, not bothered if I never hear your name again.
