A bloke just advised me in the boozer that today’s win makes us a record breaker alongside Chelski? 9 consecutive home wins with a clean sheet! Is this an actual accolade for us? I mean it is mighty impressive. Even more so considering the injuries and changes in the squad.

If this is the case, Burnley at home on Boxing Day has a bit more about it… with the potential to be sole record holders!

From what I understand we have equalled Chelsea recorder set few years ago yes. Burnley game to beat it. Big big big ask.. but if we pick up points vs Cardiff and Burnley Leeds slip up it takes any pressure off us for it.

I think we may have just beat the record!

From memory, in the Sky build up to the Sunderland match, they mentioned a Chelsea record of eight wins + clean sheets at home, but I’ve seen nine mentioned by Blades. It’s an obscure stat to find the answer, but I just found this on what looks like a well researched Chelsea site:

460A8FB9-4E52-4F5C-9CFC-BA8B06EC2B1F.webp384AFA64-20BF-4D57-BAFC-3E162B6972ED.webp

So, unless I hear differently, I’m going with a run of nine as a new (obscure) European record 🏆

Edit: unless that is top flight 🤷‍♀️

GET.
IT.
ON.
HONOURS.
BOARD.

Man U achieved 10 consecutive home games without conceding in 1994.

9 League games, 1 League Cup game.
But if you include European competition then they didn't achieve anything 🤷‍♂️

The Chelsea record that keeps being mentioned is 9 league games.

Stretched across two seasons from April to November in 2010.

Chelsea 1-0 Bolton
Chelsea 7-0 Stoke
Chelsea 8-0 Wigan
Chelsea 6-0 West Brom
Chelsea 2-0 Stoke
Chelsea 4-0 Blackpool
Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal
Chelsea 2-0 Wolves
Chelsea 1-0 Fulham

Wait. Did Man Utd WIN all those games, or was there a sneaky 0-0 in there at some point?
They actually achieved this twice. In the same season!

August to December 1994 were all wins. 9 in total all Premier League matches.
They then did it in the 2nd half of the season, but had 3 0-0s. But included the 9-0 demolition of Ipswich. Again 9 consecutive home games without conceding.

Chelsea (and us) is not a record.

Cambridge United did 12 league games at home without conceding in the old Division 2 in 1982-3. After losing 4-1 at home to (coincidentally) QPR, their results went like this:

Bolton 0-0
Middlesbrough 2-0
Palace 1-0
Blackburn 2-0
Rotherham 2-0
Leeds 0-0
Grimsby 1-0
Derby 0-0
Burnley 2-0
Fulham 1-0
Shrewsbury 0-0
Newcastle 1-0

They were also at home in the FA Cup 3 times in this run. They won 1-0 twice and, after the Leeds game, lost 2-1 to Wednesday: so someone did score in a cup during this run.

The last home game of the season v Oldham was 0-0
At HT. Cambridge conceded 4 goals in 17 mins in the second half and lost 4-1.

I don’t know whether this is the record, but it’s a run 3 games longer than ours.

The record we are trying to work out is clean sheets + WINS at home, whereas that Cambridge United run includes a few 0-0 draws.

Sky mentioned the ‘Chelsea record’ and, as has been pointed out, they did nine games across two seasons, so I assume that is why we are starting there.

However, as far as I know it could be a record in a single season (“you’ll never sing that”). Happy to be corrected though!

Sorry forgot “joint” again (as mentioned above with the Man Utd 1994 season!)

4 months without conceding a goal at home is very impressive. We threw that QPR game too, which makes it slightly more annoying as we should really be saying not conceded at home all season, yet.

Oh, I’ll consider myself patronised and shut up then.

That and the Pompey away draw are the two most annoying results.

I get your frustration with those 2 results, but I console myself with things like Pompey could have scored a winner in the game with a free header towards the end, and the win at Bristol City could easily have been just the one point...if any.

Remembering our lucky escapes helps me with the frustrations like dropping points when 2-0 up against 10 men.
Oh, and the fact that that result could well have been instrumental in teaching the players a valuable lesson that's helped us get where we are.

No need to thank me for posting the pep talk, it's as much for my benefit as anyone else 😂 ;)
