Speeds Signings

Oh come on, it's an entirely fair criticism. We were told this wouldn't happen again - and yet we've done it all again.
It's great we've got some steady players in on loan but for goodness sake we should never have been in this situation.

I agree Lenners, but I don't think sacking our manager after two games was on the cards, so its slightly unfair when we have a new manager trying to do things and people are constantly criticising the club. This is the ONLY way that Speed can get players in until at least January, so rather than sit there saying "We were told this or that" lets (for the moment at least) take things for what they are... And maybe, just maybe, we can find some positives in a time when we need to be patient with the club.

So we're getting loanees in, so what. The club are not sitting back and waiting for the window to open.

For me it was almost as if the club pressed the reset button when we changed our manager out. So all that was said by the club in the summer and during the previous regime is at the very least on hold.

A striker in the Henri Camara mould would be perfect in this setup. Bit of inginuity and creativity and I reckon someone like that paired up with Boggy would work really well.

Back to the original point of Boo's and he's correct in my opinion, Speed obviously has a good eye for a player and hopefully given some resources he'll find us a few more.

I can try and justify it, I thought we deserved a point at least.

In second half Boggy missed a sitter and there were a couple of really good crosses knocked in which they defended very well, just cleared for corners.

Think about it. Watford's goal came from them getting around the back of a static Nosworthy and crossing a ball in from the by line which could not be knocked away for a corner - more likely a touch from the defender would have resultied in an OG - so the striker only needed to get a touch to finish.

Contrast that with the crosses that the Blades put in. All diagonal from just about level with the edge of the penalty area. The Quinn stretch and miss, the Bogdanovic non-header were both from crosses that were delivered too early - that's because we panic or do not have a winger who can get to the line and put in a telling cross. Diagonal crosses are far less of a problem for defenders to deal with and consequently they can knock them out for a corner or out to their midfielders to counter attack.

The corner count means absolutely nothing if a) you cannot deliver a good corner, or b) there is no one in the centre with sufficient bottle or determination or skill to get their head on the end of it. Many of the corners we seem to take are looped in so they are easy for defenders. They should be whipped in with pace so a flick or a glance can deflect them goalward and create big problems for the keeper to deal with. They need to be varied - some near post, some penalty spot, some far but they need to clear the first man.

I am still not convinced that we are putting any balls of quality into the danger areas and couple that with the lone striker. isolated without support, that is the root of our pathetic goals for column.

Holloway has his Blackpool players getting to the line, driving through the opposition, switching play from one side to the other with a sweeping move and getting a lot of oppotunities to threaten the goal. Our tactics involve us pissing about with the ball in our own half and letting the opposition re-group before we try to break down two solid banks of four and end up lobbing a hopeful one into the middle. That's because the whole ethos is around negating the opposition and not working to the strengths, albeit limited, of our own players - especially at home.

i reckon that this is a hoofwell hangover. it will go in time (i hope).. our set pieces are pathetic.. noone can deliver a quality ball.. when did we last score from a corner/free kick.. ok there was cheds lucky deflection last week .. but when else?

I agree with all of that but against Watford I think every corner went past the first man, the problem was it went past the second, third and forth too. Most of them were wipped in quite hard too.

Who has supplied the crosses we have recently scored from?
What part of the pitch were they delivered from.

Today again you could see how Calve played defensively like on the continent despite eagles trying to run rings round him. and De laet was assured on the ball (never a pen).
Better than Burnley today and the way speed is developing that team gives me confidence in him getting success. proper partner for Morgs and improvement in goalkeeping we'll be ok.

I thought Bogdavonich & Yeates both looked the part today, and we did look dangerous going forward. Definitely progress being made.

Agreed. Yeates was a real step forward. Boggy got off the mark and is a country mile better than Evans, yet still needs to do a bit more. But very promising there. Sadly, when we get our attacking boots on, we collapse defensively. Simmo has raised a few questions and we could well see a start for Wright if this carries on.

We missed Bartley at the back.

At first last season Bartley looked vunerable and at the start of this season but the two games before he got injured he seemed to suddenly click and if that is the Bartley that comes back we've got a winner. ( HE ALSO HAS THE PATIENCE THAT DEFENDERS SEEM TO BE REQUIREING THESE DAYS).

I think we need Bartley back, as i thought defensively today both Morgan and Nosworthy looked poor.

I'll agree with Brownie, we need a quick, cool, calm centre half alongside Morgs or Nos.

Burnley just exploited us down the flanks ,Quinn hid as did Yeates defensively ,Calve and De Laet were exposed time and time again. We need more width both defensivel and offensively. Laws got us a point with one of the most bizarre decisions ever ,taking off Eagles who was running the game.

i think Calve is too over rated over a goal he scored. Against Burnley yesterday he got skilled too many times, and made a lot of mistakes.

No its nothing to do with his goal. He plays in a different way to English players. I am not thinking about going forward its defending differently.

>taking off Eagles
what is it with eagles. he has an absolute blinder every time he plays us.. perhaps he likes BDTBL who knows.. perhaps we should buy him.. i was never so pleased when i heard that he was on the bench for the playoff final.. didn't make any difference in the end like but hey :)
