RS report 'sources close to' Gary Speed, says he is unhappy that United have turned down an approach from Swansea, and they will not let him talk to them. Make off that what you will.

I see it as rumour mongering. Not by yourself, just in general.

People always want to make up supposed unrest. Speed turned down that job a year ago and is on a very good salary at United. I doubt he's that upset. If he said he wanted to go I'm sure United would let him speak to them.

So there just churning out the story on the BBC website then.

Like Lou says I think its just rumour mongering as well, only time will tell I suppose.

I think it means that the penny is dropping with Speed; another spell of working alongside the massive and unrelenting ineptitude that is Kevin Blackwell will forever taint him with the smell of failure. Not surprised that Speed is unhappy. If we want to keep him at the club, Birch has to sack Blackwell and offer him the job.

Probably more a case of "double your offer of compo and you can have a word with him".

Portraying Trev as a hard nosed business man possibly means we'll see less of the "Pesky agents" excuse that's played so well the last couple of years but wouldn't look good on Trevs CV.

Good luck Gary. No-one could possibly blame him for wanting out of the mess at the Lane and having a go somewhere else.
It's a deserved opportunity.

How has he earned it? One year of coaching? Or a few years of being telegenic?

No doubt he's an articulate bloke with loads of playing experience. But so are a lot of crap managers...

Perhaps the board think we can send Speed away for a year, and then try and snatch him back when the inevitable happens at the end of the season - only this time with a year's managerial experience at Championship level. The more likely scenario is that he goes, impresses, and is snapped up by either a Premiership club or more ambitious Championship club.

I think it's just a case of any stick to bash United with to be honest.
Rumour and anything that could make United look bad = a good post from some people (in their opinion)

I'd think his career stands scrutiny.
No-one could blame him from wanting out of our complete shambles.

Aye, we need a fans forum to clear things up, put fans in the picture as to our future direction.
Put all those negative posters in their place.

.

Not nearly as successful as a certain B Robson though!
Why does there have to be a correlation between having a successful playing career and being a successful manager? How many top players ahve gone on to be top managers?

Bryan Robson, Tony Adams, Alan Shearer, Roy Keane, Gianfranco Zola, John Barnes...to name a few whose top flight trophy studded careers have led to a case of appalling club management. Stuart McCall was in demand as manager before he went to Bradford... how'd that go?

But weren't Mourinho, Ferguson and Wenger world beaters on the pitch!? Surely Speed would do a good job after his sterling performance on Question of Sport?!

Len and Mic in this thread.

Top WUM'ing.

No?

There doesn't and there isn't.

Being a top player doesn't mean you are going to be a top manager, conversely it doesn't stop you being one either.

But why should it give you preferential treatment when jobs become available. If Speed hadn't been a welsh international, would he be considered for the Swansea job based on his coaching/manging credentials, i.e. 2 years coaching at a championship club? There are loads of young coaches out there who have chose to go down the coaching/management route either because there football career was cut short by injury or they weren't good enough. They have to work getting all the coaching badges etc to get a shot and regularly get overlooked in preference to a 'Name' who happened to be a decent footballer. When all the evidence is that very few of these are actually any good at it.

The story on the BBC website came from Swansea message board...

Cut and paste what the know-nowts write and bingo, its an undisputable fact. Nice work if you can get it.

Maybe we should try make a job out of it :), think we'll do better than that story.

I didn't think anything of the story, as it hadn't appeared anywhere else.

Thought the Radio Sheffield were a bit naughty with this one. In the morning it was 'Radio Sheffield understands that Speed is unhappy' but when, by the evening, they were saying that 'contrary to earlier reports, Speed is happy to stay' it was like someone else had come up with the incorrect stories in the morning.

Don't think they need to do a Sky Sports job and sensationalise stuff they've read online as if they've had it from the horse's mouth.

From what I've heard, there's no way Speed will be going anywhere (cue him leaving for Swansea).

I would concur.

I would concur.

You concur with Cooper that Blackwell is going to be sacked - my only question is when? Before the start of the term? I just cannot understand why it hasn't happened already - clearly you 'know' somat is happening but why sack a manager after a few signings have been made?

If it is a 'we'll give him ten games' job from Trev then I can't understand that either. I assume Blackwell knows that moves are afoot?

Chill pill dude.

He only said Speed didn't want to go.

Bubbe, I probably know a lot you don't
