I've read a lot on here saying Speed is the "cheap option," "sideways move," "unproven" etc.. and that they would rather go out and pay for someone else (who may or may not improve the situation.)
What I want to know are: Are any of these people the same people that would've been upset if Speed had joined Swansea last season or this season?
If so,
Why did you want to keep Speed?
Where else do you think Speed can go in an upwards direction unless he gets the job?
Others saying that we should be getting a proven manager: Who ?
Alan Curbishley?
Kevin Keegan?
Bryan Robson?
Gordan Strachan?
These have all proved themselves at one point in their career for their Charlton's, Newcastle's, Middlesbrough's & Celtic's but have then "fallen off their perch" and never got the gel with other clubs since.
Jose Mourinho, Alex Ferguson & Arsene Wenger all had to start somewhere, were their first managerial appointments treated with this much uncertainty? Probably!
I say get behind the man. In terms of players (in my generation) he's been one of the best servants to the English game. Give him a chance.
