Wait til everyone gets wind he’s gone to Cov after reading about how great they are on here.
I always enjoy the pre‑season arrogance from clubs who’ve finally bagged their first promotion in years. They get a bit giddy, convinced they’re about to take the league by storm.

Then 10–15 games in, reality hits. They realise just how brutally tough the Premier League is in comparison.

You’re signing a £20m player so you’ve got a really good chance of doing well….then you realise everyone else in the league is doing the same

I guarantee that the club is looking, just as intently, at other players. They just let the news out that they want. No journalist is catching a scoop and rushing to the morning press. Buying clubs, selling clubs, players, agents, all have media teams and preferred contracts that they feed info to to control the narrative, manipulate the market, garner support etc. We're hearing mere snippets of the actual conversation, but trying to understand the whole story.
You are spot-on, much of the media communication during the transfer window is for other clubs rather than fans.
Stories are planted if we want to move players on, and tales of no money if we are interested in a player to lower the selling clubs expectations.
That’s why it’s so important to have an experienced media team with the right contacts in the national press.

£20m players nowadays is going rate for an average prem player ain't it. Unless you've got a billionaire who will throw cheques at it and doesn't mind getting a -6pt deduction at some point like forest then you've no change of a sustained period.

The scary thing is that everyone else is signing 30/40 million pound players as back ups or even back ups to backups.

Most established teams now have a few players worth 50m +

The likes of Chelsea probably have 20 players on 60k+ a week who’ve never even played a competitive game of men’s football yet.

It’s so utterly bonkers and very nearly a closed shop to the likes of us. When the likes of West Ham can come down and sell £150m worth and still have a squad everyone else is jealous of just shows they’re all on another planet to us (and Cov)

And you must have a DOF and other "management executives" otherwise you'll end up like er, us.
Just look at Sunderland for example. Without their world class DOF and management structure and their brilliant forward thinking foreign manager they would have come straight down.
Nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that with a multi billionaire owner they were able to spend nearly 200 million on new players.
Were it not for VAR and a very dodgy VAR decision it would have been us. (Even I briefly thoght we'd got rid of the play off curse at 2-0 up).
That said we'd have probably been straight down again because :-
1.We dont have the proper management structure (what and whoever that may be), or-
2.We simply couldn't afford to spend anywhere near 200 million on new players.

Would love him back but only at a sensible price.

By the way, every time I look at the title of this thread, I sing it to myself, to the tune of the old Elton John song, "Someone Saved My Life Tonight"

"...Souttar played and scored last night, Sugar Bear....."

Every time I go over a bridge I hear the taxi music

As a club and fanbase, what's the plan when he eventually does move to either us or someone else? It feels like the Ricky Holmes/Ryan Leonard scenario x100, what else will there to talk about? Will our scouts go back to their day jobs for another 12 months until it's time to bid for Chris Mepham or Jimmy Dunne?

Doesn't look imminent...
City boss Martin said: “With Harry, I don't know. He captained the team on Saturday (and) he will captain the team this Saturday.

"He's been amazing since I've been in, since he came back from the World Cup. He's a proper character so it wouldn't surprise me that people are interested in him.

The Leicester manager also explained that players will only be allowed to leave if it suits all parties and the club is in a position to replace them. "We had a couple of bids but they were nowhere near the valuation of the club and what we value him at," he added.

Wasn't that from about 4 days ago?

If he's not starting tomorrow's game at Notts County then he's coming here. Leicester only have three centre-backs in him, Okoli and Faes and they all want to leave.
