Depends on the structure of the bid (how much of ours is add-ons) and the wages on offer..

i think mcguinness could be part of the 10m bid probably about 3m for him so our bid may only be 7m i would definetly love souttar to come to the lane but have to say im 50/50 on the 10m quoted we still need 3 top loans to come in imo and we will need to offer substantial salaries to get the quality in to the squad

But we should also feel powerful because we know Leicester are facing a points deduction unless they sell loads of players…especially the ones on big money.
Also they know Souttar wants to leave so if they keep him against his wishes his form is likely to drop….then they’ve totally blundered.

Souttar is good for us…but don’t think his value is that high for anyone else…..even the Leicester fans don’t rate him.

I read, on Twitter, so don’t take as fact. They they were now ok vs SCR. Sold enough and got enough off the wages to hit whatever threshold it is in the pub league.

Of course there is the external none scr issues around debt etc. that I know nothing about.

But in short it was saying they now don’t need to sell. Hence the current stance on Souttar.

I'm still not sure Leicester are as desperate to sell as some make out. they've had a couple of really big sales (for league one) which should at a minimum keep the wolves away from the door for a year.

They're probably banking on keeping the core of the squad together and romping the league this season. What a novel idea.

I dunno, if his previous two jobs are owt to go by, Martin tends to like his sides to play poorly...

He’s either fit and firing, in which case c£10m is probably a fair fee and gets us an exceptional CB at Championship level.

Or his injury problems come back to bite us and we’ve and we’ve blown our budget on an expensive addition to the physio room.

Can’t say it’s a move I’d have made, but which other top tier Championship centre backs are available for £8-10m and would want to come?

This is absolutely spot on. While everybody on here guesses at numbers before accounts are published, we have professionals in the club who know exactly what the numbers are, what the investment budget is, and where we sit opposite current and projected financial rule restrictions. They know who we want, they know roughly what they will cost, and they know what the budget is. I for one hope that they are sensibly maximising our spend ( without creating future risk) in investing in the players that we need right now to deliver on the short and medium term ambitions of the club.
Of course we need to make money from transfers - and we do - but the route to financial growth rests squarely on promotion. Profits on player sales are dwarfed by the rewards of promotion to the Premier League. Folk whinge on about losing money on Berge, Ndiaye, McBurnie etc….but those players delivered financial benefits to the club that are way in excess of what we might have got for them in the transfer market by selling earlier, by getting us promoted to the Premier League.
If we are to grow as a club, we have to increase our revenue stream such that the owners can invest more in playing assets while remaining within the financial rules of the game. Promotion is the key to this revenue growth.
And it isn’t either black or white as imagined by many - we need a blend of experienced pros who’s main value is in seeking to deliver short term success and the financial reward that that brings, alongside a younger cohort of developing players whose growth is of benefit to the club both in terms of on field performance and transfer fee.
I personally think we’re not far off the right blend. We have a nucleus of seasoned pros who have already successfully walked the path that we seek to travel, and a strong cohort of younger players coming through.
It’s football, so no doubt shit things will happen during the season, but there’s every chance that good things might happen as well.

I’m sure that’s what happened with us, Maguire and Hull years ago.
They bid £2.5m, we rejected as we were hanging on for more… then later in the window, we went back to Hull and accepted the deal.
