You can’t speak to a player until you agree a fee with the current side, if you do that’s tapping up, offer goes in, club decides whether to accept or reject, if accept then contracts talks begin then personal terms afterwards.

Some might say it would be wise to sign such a player before you've already played/probably wasted 4 games

Its a well known fact in sheffield that games in august dont count and other clubs are silly for being prepped prior to matchday one

This is no longer illegal as there was no way to enforce it. That’s what I read a few weeks ago, I didn’t fact check it.

There's no rule against speaking to his agent. That's how deals are done these days, you speak to the agent to see if the player fancies the move before negotiating with the selling club.

To be fair history would suggest that's exactly how we do business.

Wasn't it Hecky who said by the time a bid comes in the player and his agent have essentially agreed to a move already

If he came back on a permanent, I'd be OK with it but there's too much development left in him to justify another loan.
I'd rather go for an experienced out of favour PL player if we're going down that route.

Gus has one foot out of the door already, I think Peck might give us one more season.
Albeit, Gus will be a far bigger miss.

We've no £ for fees until (eg) Hamer is sold.
And maybe not even then , until the squad - described by Wilder as "bloated" - is reduced in number.

Assuming Hamer is off to the PL for £10m and we don't sign £10m Souttar, That gives Wilder £20m to spend on Bindon, wages for frees or younger players who might last a season of doing more than 60minutes. Our best signings last season were free agents.
