United existed before, and will exist after Wilder. United's Academy recruitment operates separately from the rest of the clubs processes. Nothing in what I said is untrue or embellished

Not everyone bases their support of a club around an individual 🤷‍♂️
How dare you not give wilder any credit for Walker, Naughton, Jagielka, Tonge, Forte, Slew, etc… etc…

Ye I just think Wilder could be given a bit if credit for his input

He gets credit for his work in getting us out of L1, getting us stable in the champ and then promoted. He also deserves a hell of a lot of credit for the stellar prem season we had.

BUT

If you're giving him credit for that, he also shoulders the majority of blame for all of our failings since then. Poor signings he sanctioned, bizzare press conferences, refusal to develop/use youth talent, blaming players for his fuck ups, the entire end of the 90pt season where him, his management and his tactics cost us promotion

As much as I love CW, since his success it seems he's done more harm than good

This is a stretch. You dont seem to love him at all tbh
Most successful manager of my lifetime, associated with the most enjoyable football I ever watched, and me and my dad has Season Tickets to see us promoted which will be memories that last a lifetime. I'm a massive fan of CW and will forever be thankful for what he's done for the club - but that doesn't take away from what he's done that's negative, as I've just listed to you

Can't say I agree with your list of negatives but fair enough

Well explain to me how I'm wrong?

  • Poor signings: PA told him he could have Jonathon David or Osihmen (he literally gave Wilder a list of young talent he could sign with these on), Wilder refused and pushed for Brewster
  • Bizarre press conferences: The sandwich comment? Just for starters?
  • Refusal to develop/use youth talent: I think the lack of minutes One got in preseason speaks volumes, alongside players like Curtis and the AI lads
  • Fucking up the 90pt season: Couldn't even lay a glove on promotion rivals when we played them. Fucked up our entire run in when we needed to win, leading to losses against teams like Plymouth. Decided to sit back and coast on a 1-0 lead for 60mins in a playoff final

You let me know where I'm wrong?

Ye Brewster was a mistake in hindsight. I dont think you can blame Wilder for not signing Oshimen in 2019 ahead of Brewster. How many of us would have? Wilder also made good signings in that time. Ramsdale we made a lot on. Berge was a great signing. Every manager gets signings wrong.

I disagree on the press conferences. That's your opinion they are a negative but I don't agree.

Disagree on the youth players. We dont know if Curtis is anywhere near ready. I don't think Wilder has an issue with youth players he has brought plenty through. Brooks, Brooks, Peck, Arblaster to name a few. Criticising him for not playing the AI signings is daft. We will see with One but he hasn't had many minutes on senior football at all and might just not be ready.

You give him 0 credit for a 92 pount season that barely anyone would have predicted us having. You class the entire season as a disaster thats his fault. No credit for rebuilding the team and having us neck and neck with 2 teams that got 100 points until the last stretch. Ye we had a really bad week and lost 3 important games. I dont think that is the manager completely fucking up the season and I think he did a great job overall that season.

Genuinely think you should be more grateful seen as you how you love him but that's up to you.

Some people have just lost it with him and any objectivity is now out if the window.

That used to be aimed at the Wilder lovers the other eay, but I don't see so much of that any more.

So you wholeheartedly believe that Brewster at the time was a better signing snd player than either Osihmen or David?

Mate - the sandwich press conference became a meme. It's permanently associated with Wilder and made him a joke.

"Neck and neck with 2 teams" that beat us every time we played them. And then when we had the advantage in the run in, Wilder played negative, shite football leading us to be completely out of the race. He then fucked the final up with the same tactics. But we should just be happy to be there, right?

"He really uses the youth": He used Peck and Arblaster because he had to, not because he wanted to. We'll never know if Curtis is ready because he never gets a sniff, same with the AI lads.

"One might not be ready" helped get a team promoted last season. Other clubs see something in him, so there's a talent there as CW let's him rot on our bench? Didn't even get a minute in friendlies we were comfortably winning ffs, but you think CW can develop youth when he has the choice to? Hell, you use Andre Brooks as an example - you mean the player CW would go after game after game and criticise? That really helps players, publicly shitting on them week in week out.

But aye, I should be greatful because he's succeeded twice and then fucked up continually since - really grateful.

You know you can enjoy the good and be critical, right?

Not sure it was BBDs fault last time. He needs to be on the left.

His goal involvement was the same in both spells (7).

PL season: 6G 1A in 14 games
CH season: 4G 3A in 17 games
BBD is a good counter attacking wide forward. He's not a good wide player in a team who has a lot of the ball. Great in space, not great either 1v1 or when asked to work as part of a slow, methodical build up

So you wholeheartedly believe that Brewster at the time was a better signing snd player than either Osihmen or David?
At the time Osihmen had been playing in the Belgian league. Its just pure hindsight. Obviously now we know he would have been better but at the time I imagine the vast majority would have wanted Brewster.

Mate - the sandwich press conference became a meme. It's permanently associated with Wilder and made him a joke.
It wasn't even a press conference so you're just talking rubbish. I don't care about gimps on twitter who think it's hilarious. Doesn't bother me pretty pathetic to hold it against him as a blade .

Ye we should have been happy to be there. I don't think many of us thought we should be. Again absolutely zero credit for us being there. We weren't as good as Leeds and Burnley and got beat by them. Deserved something against Leeds but they were just better than us and as with Burnley had bigger budgets.

One was used as an impact sub mainly for Lincoln. He didn't get many minutes that's just reality. Yes I do think he develops youth when he has the chance. I listed examples. Brooks he put in the team and we sold him for a significant fee. I wish we hadnt but that's giving youth a chance regardless of your ramblings.
But aye, I should be greatful because he's succeeded twice and then fucked up continually since - really grateful.

Just nonsense again. Ye and you know you can experience the dips without chucking your toys out the pram like an entitled spoilt brat

I never thought that the Osimhen/David/Trossard etc stuff passed the smell test. It seemed like PR bollocks that the board put out there because fans were mad at them about Wilder leaving. We might have looked at them (like half the other teams in Europe) but there's quite a difference between that and them being all set to sign for us, but Brexit Wilder refused.

When exactly could we have signed Victor Osimhen? The summer we got promoted, when he signed for Lille (a Champions League team who had just finished runners up in Ligue 1)? Or the summer after, when he went to Napoli for £70m+? And where did this list of excellent European talent come from? Our recruitment team (that I kept reading on here was rubbish) or was it from Jan Van Winckel, the guy supposedly behind the signings of Verrips and Zivkovic? And why was Wilder willing to accept those crap foreign signings (plus Berge) but refused to sign any of the good ones? And, why after Wilder left, did whoever spotted Osimhen etc completely lose the ability to find anyone else of that calibre?

I also don't get this stuff about him "refusing" to play/develop young players when we had 4 academy products in the squad most weeks last season. We'll probably have Baptiste and One in the mix this year. The idea that he's refusing to develop youth because he's not playing Sam Curtis or some lads from the Bulgarian 2nd division is a bit weird.

Firstly - don't call me an "entitled spoiled brat" you pathetic fuck, you're about 2 sentences away from calling him "Mr Wilder" 😂

Secondly: Osihmen was in Ligue 1 in 19/20 - 13 goals, 5 assists in a tougher league than the Champ. David was in Belgium, scored 18 with 8 assists. Both also contributed to European cup campaigns. But yeah, Brewster was the right signing...

Third: So when the owners are embarrassing, and getting dragged publicly - that's horrendous, and we should be worried. But CW can make a tit of himself ranting about a sandwich and that means nothing? Make that make sense.

"We should be happy to be there" fucking hell. It's alright lads, the financial incentives and the success promotion brings are good, but so is just taking part. I'm sure Bristol felt the same after they lost to us!

"One was used as an impact sub" aye, and we're not using him at all - would you call that progression or regression? I also explained to you how he repeatedly and frequently berated to the media, but because he gave him game time that makes it okay? Again, is publicly shitting on a player good for their development, or detrimental?

It's all nonsense, if you completely ignore the facts and logic of it all, and focus on your pure adoration of the bloke. Anything else is being "spoilt and entitled"

He's only playing Baptiste because he doesn't want either McGuinness or Zatterstrom. He literally has no other CB choice atm.

And when it comes to Curtis: before we got Doherty, who else has he had that could play RB? Who else got the opportunity to get time and put themselves in consideration?

One didn't get a minute of preseason, and we're expected to think CW plans to use him this season?

Don't come here with your factual, sensible comments pal, it's not in the right spirit

Don't come here with your factual, sensible comments pal, it's not in the right spirit
He is probably right about Osihmen, but personally the David one would make sense. And even if it wasn't 100% accurate, the punt we took on Brewster and others that summer sit with Wilder (and reflect repeated issues when it comes to his recruitment)

Interesting that. I didn't realise.
But yeah, he HAS TO be on the left. Luckily this time, thats exactly where we need him.

R we still interested in for his brother? If we are, probably not, would that be an interesting double swoop!!!

Danny Hall said we're not
I want to make a "Welcome to Sheffield United the Souttar brothers" joke, but in fairness Hall isn't usually wrong. Cryptic, slow at times, but rarely wrong.

So any actual news on Souttar or has this thread morphed into to pro wilder vs anti wilder and a bit about BBD?
Is it too much to ask that we stay on topic? Had to keep checking the thread title to remind me what I thought I would be reading about.
Definitely having his medical with us today mate.
Or, training with Leicester again.
Hope this helps 😅

It's alright, on the slow front Biggs is still writing his report on their dad Jack Souttars burgeoning football career

Can't say that. Only good things. Ignore the bad.

Return to the Banner for your reprogramming.

Firstly - don't call me an "entitled spoiled brat" you pathetic fuck,
No need for this.
Secondly: Osihmen was in Ligue 1 in 19/20 - 13 goals, 5 assists in a tougher league than the Champ. David was in Belgium, scored 18 with 8 assists. Both also contributed to European cup campaigns. But yeah, Brewster was the right signing...
I said in hindsight of course Brewster wasn't the right signing. Wasn't obvious at the time is my point. You've also just said in another post maybe it wasn't true about Osihmen so there's that.
Third: So when the owners are embarrassing, and getting dragged publicly - that's horrendous, and we should be worried. But CW can make a tit of himself ranting about a sandwich and that means nothing? Make that make sense.
I dont really care that they're embarrassing I care if they can't afford the club. If you dont understand how that makes sense its on you.

We should be happy to be there" fucking hell. It's alright lads, the financial incentives and the success promotion brings are good, but so is just taking part. I'm sure Bristol felt the same after they lost to us!
Im sure the "Bristol" fans weren't wanting their manager sacked for losing to us. Like I say just entitled and spoilt if you don't understand why he did a good job that season.
One was used as an impact sub" aye, and we're not using him at all - would you call that progression or regression?
Erm i'd say that's very normal. I don't really understand why you're so worked up about his minutes in pre-season
I also explained to you how he repeatedly and frequently berated to the media, but because he gave him game time that makes it okay? Again, is publicly shitting on a player good for their development, or detrimental?
Did you explain this? Genuinely not sure what you are on about now

But ye mostly I think your arguments are nonsense. Just my opinion

Worth pointing out that in Wilder's second stint, including the infamous 90 point season, he had a similar win percentage to Adkins, Blackwell, Kendal & Porterfield. His 3rd stint matches Hecky & Wilson.

Real club legend stuff that.

He kept us up last season with someone else's players, and got us a record points tally the season before.
Suppose it depends if you're a glass half empty or full kinda guy, how you see things.
