This might be the ultimate head vs heart transfer. Can’t remeber any this extreme. Heart thinks would be amazing and that watching the colossus stride out onto the pitch for the blades once more will be epic. Head says the transfer fee and injury record are a recipe for disaster and we’ll be looking back at this transfer with hindsight shaking our heads. I’ve genuinely never known a transfer I want so much but am also kind of against!
Is he a good player - YES
Is he certain to be injured - MAYBE
Is paying out £5m going to destroy the club - NO
You can't go through life with no hopes
I'd take a chance and go for it, others can be miserable as Job in the Bible if they want.

I don't want to back track, I thought we'd get this done all along, and I do really want him...
But, phwoooooar £9m is a lot.
I suppose it's just using the Brooks money but Im terrified that he'll get injured again.

100%

Not my money either. So long as it doesn't put the club at any risk which I'm sure it doesn't then fucking go for it. Fabulous player at this level assuming he stays injury-free for most of his contract.

Undoubtedly allows Tanganga to be the second centre half too which is ideal.

BBD would be a waste of a wage. Bit part player and not what we want if we're looking to strengthen. He's Cambell lite who comes in and does a bit...and then he doesn't anymore.

Not heard anything on that if I’m honest. Wouldn’t surprise me as we were all set to offer Matondo a contract but we’ve stalled on that.
Im sure he was missing from the open training session today.

It still is a lot of money for a player with his injury record.

At the start of the Summer, I'd have thought £2-3m would have been a fair offer given the issues he's had.

At his best, he's obviously one of the best in the division but it's a gamble for a club in our position and I imagine it'll be funded by a sale (Burrows?)

Burrows is genuinely injured I think.

it is a big risk but i feel its a risk we have to take a big physical centre back is our number 1 priority this window and we also need a strong captain tanganga isnt the one and i think he will be a better player without that responsibility and souttar at the side of him

It doesn’t even feel like we’re gambling to be honest, I’d be shocked if he manages to stay injury free for any significant period of time.

He made 38 league appearances in 20/21 for Stoke and since then he’s made a grand total of 61 league appearances in 5 seasons! The most in one season was the 21 with us!
