The younger, fitter, cheaper option might not grow and develop. He might also get injured. Every transfer is a gamble as nothing is guaranteed.
 



Leicester are utterly screwed financially. If they don't get promoted this season and new owners aren't in asap, they'll go bust. They'll gladly accept around £5m plus add ons, they've got no choice.
 
Just occurred to me that last summer we also signed an expensive centre back from a team that suffered a surprise relegation to league one. I'm sure that's not a sign.

Is that completely ignoring the 60mil in sales and the massive wage reduction via releases?
 
He was fantastic when here on loan but that injury is worrying - only played around 10 competitive games since - can he hack 2 games a week in the Championship? For us 5 mill plus add ons is a massive risk and knowing our luck he will end up getting as long term injury. Rather we use the money looking elsewhere tbh
 
It's absolutely a risk. Even at the "new price" it's a gamble.

Even pre the injury he was one type of player and needs the right partner around him.

Whatever happens be it he joins or goes elsewhere I can see all sides of the argument to going for him or not!

The £60m they've made in sales will simply be used by the owner for his business in Thailand. They have been making big losses year upon year and they'll inevitably fail to comply with League 1's spending limits. They are in a world of trouble unless they're very lucky and a new owner bails them out.

You can't just take money out of a club to pay for something else, thats not how football ownership works

From what I heard previously from my source close to the club, when we were dealing with Leicester City, they were a nightmare to deal with and changing the deals at the last minute.

Not followed this much recently, but I'd seen the other day that Wilder said we'd had a bid knocked back, which suggests that Wilder and our board are aligned in trying to get the deal done. I'd guess that the aim was to pressure the Leicester side of things by making it public in an attempt to get things moving.

I'm not ITK and haven't spoken with my source on this one so its pure guess work from my side this time.

Leicester will undoubtedly want to get multiple bids in and we will want to get it done before it turns into an auction. Either we do the deal or we move on, but I would be pretty confident, again from what I heard whilst Souttar was injured that he'll want to be away from Leicester ASAP, whether that's with us or someone else only time will tell.

There are no guarantees with any player and it’s always possible a player will get injured. With Souttar, the injury feels more of an inevitability than a risk.

Good player, but based on his injury record, I’d stay well clear. We just don’t have the budget to be taking chances like this.
 



This might be the ultimate head vs heart transfer. Can’t remeber any this extreme. Heart thinks would be amazing and that watching the colossus stride out onto the pitch for the blades once more will be epic. Head says the transfer fee and injury record are a recipe for disaster and we’ll be looking back at this transfer with hindsight shaking our heads. I’ve genuinely never known a transfer I want so much but am also kind of against!

Im presuming the add ons (if thrme figures are true) are taking it up to £9m, and its not £9m plus add ons!! The latter would be ridiculous.

If its £5m plus add ons then the devil is in the detail. So they get an extra £1m for every 10 games he plays, or do they get an extra £1m for every time he captains Australia to winning the World Cup. Add ons for transfers are very subjective. Anyway, get it done. Hes our new Stan the Man.
