One of my favourite players to pull on a blades shirt and he only played 20 odd games for us! Monster at the back. I do think it's worth pushing the boat out for him but not at the 10m asking price. I imagine if we spend that much it would mean having to make compromises in terms of other incomings. I could see this dragging on until the end of the window unless a team like West Ham stumps up the big money.

I think a reasonable evaluation of him would be around 5m given his injury record and Leicester being in League One. But for us it depends on how much the owners are willing to inject. I think it's important that we have money left in the pot to make other desired signings. If they inject 10m, for example, I don't think it would be wise to spend the entirety of that on Souttar if it means not having enough money left in the pot to to bring in a decent LW on a permanent deal or a high quality one on loan. By the sound of things we're after only frees and loans at the minute so I'd be pleasantly surprised if they do inject that kind of money.
 
Only way he returns here is if there’s outgoings first but the question is will he still be available until that happens

What's his credentials then to know if that is true?
Is Jimmy Ramble > TBlade? If we've offered £4m i would think Leicester would accept circa £6m plus add ons for promotion etc etc

Leicester were never going to accept a loan to buy (obligation let alone option) they need the money NOW. Harry wants to come here but how much? Would he take a £10k wage cut on what Wrexham offer? And that's if we even match their offer to Leicester. Leicester dont owe us anything, they couldn't care less how much he enjoyed his loan with us, they'll sell to the highest bidder.
I still fancy us though. I think Wilder planned this entire summer around getting Souttar then building from there.

They've made nearly 50mil off of 3 player sales alone in Monga, Khanouss and Fatawu, and thats without getting into how much theyve saved with releases and loaning players out. Financially, they're in no rush

They are still in a mess even with those sales, they had a £115m wage bill last season, the average in league 1 is between £5m - £10m.

They also took a £50m loan with McQuarrie against their parachute payments.

Their training ground while state of the art sets them back £14m per year.

They are in such a state that l would image their very existence is in doubt if they don’t bounce straight back.

I would imagine they do need to sell, they will however want to get max value if they have any sense which I’m not sure they do.
 
If we’re skint, we need to be deeply questioning any potential transfer fee. Even 4m for someone’s who’s unlikely to have resale value, and has lost 2 entire seasons to injure is a disaster waiting to happen.
 
I’d like to think that new PSR rules would encourage more swap deals.
I’d read that Leicester have released 21 players so they need players as much as they needed to sell players first cash to cover their liabilities.
IF all the above is true then wouldn’t it be great if they took McGuinness as part of a swap and that swap deals helped with the new profit rules?

That’s of course assuming McGuinness would be happy dropping a division and probably taking a pay cut

They've also slashed said wage budget by releasing 5 players alongside selling 6. They're not as fucked financially as we'd like them to be

A desperate seller and a broke buyer getting towards the end of the window might reset some of their expectations.

He’s a great player but his lack of availability and poor injury record should factor into the price. I hope we hold our nerve and don’t get dragged into paying over the odds out of stubbornness or desperation. Just because Leicester paid over the odds doesn’t mean we should (see McBurnie & Brewster)

Recent success and fantastic infrastructure also makes them a prime candidate for investment. They should run away with the league this year and a clear out and reset should set them up for an Ipswich style run at the premier league.

agree and thats why leicester have zero chance of getting 10m for souttar

Our wage bill definitely won't have been £115m last season, and the £14m running costs for the training ground isn't really substantiated anywhere

We also haven't been nailed by the new Salary rules in place for League One like Oxford have been which suggests at this point we are currently okay regarding turnover to player spending

We had people saying we wouldn't get a good fee for Fatawu because he has had a big injury, we are desperate for money etc... we got £20m which we wanted - we also priced Arsenal out of a move for Monga and got what we wanted from Man City

Of the centre backs we have Ben Nelson is currently the one who is top of the list who needs to leave as he only has 1 year left on his contract, and he actually provides a better opportunity for us to make good money on him as he came through the academy and he has interest from Serie A and West Ham, which in turn also puts us in a better position of what we can ask for for Souttar
 



I’m starting to think we’ll actually get him.

I didn’t particularly want to see us spend big on him due to past injuries but I think wilders interview today probably suggests it’s been closer than people realise. Sounded like a plea to the board for a couple extra million to get it over the line and got a feeling they’ll let him have his first choice.

If he stayed fit it would be a massive boost and a big help to Tanganga. Could be like having two new signings
