Ordered four tickets for Saturday, does anyone know how the sales are going?

Not sure but you wont be on your own as me and 3 mates will also be there

Been twice before and lost both times. In '95 (2-1) when there was a punch up between pro and anti Bassett fans and then the following season when (3-2) when I think Andy Walker scored both. Anyone ever seen us win there?

I saw both those games. That 1995 game was depressing. Horrible United performance, Blake sent off, and the fighting made it a miserable experience.

As well as the Arnott game we won 3-1 there in 1994-5, when Blake had a better game, scoring twice.

Blades fans, I'll be going on Saturday, not been to Southend away before - wondering where you're all likely to be congregating for a pre-match beer? Are you going to drink around central London (Liverpool St) before heading to Southend in time for kick off. Or will you be going straight across to Southend and sampling what they have to offer?

Also, I have a southern mate telling me to get the train to Southend Victoria, but Football Grounds Guide says to go to Prittlewell? Anyone have any advice?

Prittlewell is closer to the ground. Southend Victoria is nearer to the town centre and if you want to see the town or pier (for whatever reason!), I would get a ticket to Victoria but return from Prittlewell

Im having friday off, going near newmarket for the night n then to southend sat dinner.Reckon will b over1500.We owe them after this year and last year on tv

Was this the day, in 95, you met Pinchy and didn't know it? More than likely. :)

I'm heading down with a mate and this will be my first trip to Southend. I think it will also be my 71st football league ground, so looking forward to ticking it off. Staying over in Southend Saturday night.

Heading down with two mates. We're on the 8:34 train to London. I've wanted to go to Roots Hall for a while but it's a shame it's not on Good Friday instead of Port Vale.

i live in colchester this is almost a home game for me. got tickets this morning. as someone said earlier prittlewell station closest to the ground, pubs and chippy on way to ground. oh and southend is a shithole full of chavs :)

I've seen us there once before. It was a night match and I haven't got a clue what the score was. I must have been very, very drunk.

Leigh on Sea has 4 decent pubs, one with a chippy and is a short train ride from Southend Victoria. Views over the estuary to reflect on our Impending win. Trains regular into Southend about 5 mins on train.

There are some pubs near Victoria (including a Wetherspoons for those who like them), and a decent one en route to the ground from there that's in the good beer guide. Pubs near ground are all rubbish and won't let you in. No ale last season in the ground, just a marvellously retro tea shelter. Bogs are prehistoric and I've had a dump in a better equipped cave.

But best of all...

Standing and terraces.. A proper away end.

What are the 4? There are 3 in my good beer guide of which The Crooked Billet sounds the pick.

Only 2 boozers in the real ale guide andone is a Spoons. The other, The Old Trout Tavern, sounds decent though. Hsving heard Sarthend is a proper shithole though we are going to try Leigh on Sea. We'll probably go to the Old Trout Tavern post match if anyone fancies an ale (and listen to me talk ballaks).

Leigh on Sea has 3 boozers in the Good Beer Guide though again one is a Spoons. We will call for one in the Mayflower but our main destination is the Crooked Billet. Views over the estuary and well kept real ale by the sounds. I'll be there with Balham Blade and BladeInThatcham and again others welcome to join. Beware though we are a trio of hot air spouting, know nowt, pedantic and difficult exiled Blades ;)

All I will say is, Kevin Arnott.
Ran on the pitch when he scored. One and only time I've been arrested. To this day I still think it's best goal I've ever seen live. Funny thing is I can't really remember it that well (17 years old and and slightly merry. ). In my mind he got the ball on the edge of our box went on a little run played a one two on the halfway line and then went through and scored. Is this anywhere near what happened?

Is it still standing? I have seat numbers on my tickets.

Forgot to mention nearly ever blade in the crowd was on the pitch. And I was the only arrested

Crooked Billet was the best pub in South Essex, that is a few years ago now though. Southend is bereft of decent beer, coming back towards Leigh, The Castle at Hadleigh is not bad and up to 18 months ago the food was decent as well. As you are coming out of Southend on the London Road, The Trading Room is OK, Sky Sports always on but it is quite a small boozer.

It gets better every time I play it in my head, think you have described it about right.

Remember the celebrations just as much, same with Bob Atkins at Millmoor.

I was there. I talked a pal of mine from school into going with me and was hopeful that he'd become my 'football friend'. After that shower of shit he didn't go again until 2003.
