NC warning players not to throw towel in on automatic (I think they have and are being distracted by cup runs) and talk of going to a lower Dutch division to find a striker capable of getting us goals, out of this league and to grow in the Championship (cause we found a peach in hippo).

He's also saying he wants 3/4 players, two players in Monday /Tuesday, they are identified (assume from Kevin baked Beens, Coutt and Freeman) and the other two Beard and COG. If that's correct its one to Preston, one we don't want, one wanted by Scunthorpe (our role model club) and two we can't have, loan market it is then! All this because there are no players in the UK within our price range, who has tallent and wants to play for SUFC.

Then we'll be out of cups (with honour), struggling for playoffs and hoping he gets funding to build a team for next year but still fighting for automatic.

Sorry, I'm feeling a little negative this morning and I don't see my therapist until 3:30pm. I hope I get the chance to regret this post and Nige can happily stick his fingers up at me!

As commendable as it is that Clough's refusing to give up on automatic, that ships pulling out of the harbour rapidly and I can't see us catching it without numerous signings, a lot of luck and a major improvement on the lacklustre performance we offered on Saturday.

The luck would surely have to involve the top two teams having a collapse of epic proportions. They're 18 points ahead of us and averaging over 2 points a game. We have 22 games left to play, so would need to average about 0.75 points per game more than them.

I reckon if we win all our games between now and the end of the season, we might scrape second :-)

Exactly, even if we improve the squad and go on an amazing run it's still essentially out of our hands and dependant on teams who have been consistenly good all season suddenly nosediving.

If our big idea is to get a striker from the Dutch second division and play him in a 4-5-1 formation, that's very depressing.

But, of course, not surprising.

Woke up reading the same article and feeling the same way. I would prefer us to bring in someone who is a proven league one striker rather than an unknown. We are not in a position to take risks and signing this player would be a risk. I think teams fear us less now than this time last season when we was in the bottom half of the league.

Problem is Rossb123 the proven strikers will look at our league performances and position and think we got a slim chance via playoffs and not bother. Failure earlier in or before the season started to build a strong squad is costing us dearly. Anything we do now is likely to be a panic or average player bad buy.

You get little or no value in a JTW for permanent deals - Everyone knows that as the prices are inflated in line with the desperation stakes of the clubs seeking new blood.

If there is, or if there ever was, a plan we have left it far too late to attract anyone of any quality as they will look at our league standing and the way we play and the recent stats and, as Blade56 states, not bother with us - for this season at least.
Throwing big bucks at it now is a folly it should have been sorted at the end of last season (the striker situation) - we are so far away from automatic that the play offs are the only "hope" left. ....and that's just a lottery when we are concerned.

Really cannot see anyone of any quality joining in this JTW and the only recruitment will be in the loan period after the window shuts to help us limp across the line into the top 6. If we do get people in they will be on the cheap as they are recovering from serious injury and will see us as a route to their own personal rehabilitation - not a realistic promotion contender in this campaign.

Before the Prince & Phippsy came on board we would have been looking at a Dutch 3rd division striker.

Dutch 2nd division is game changing.

PS We just need to ignore the fact that Higdon came from the Dutch first division.....

Nigel goes Dutch in a bid to get goals.

Going Dutch definition - each person participating in a group activity pays for themselves , rather than one person paying for everyone else.

I cannot see the player , agent , club , throwing money into the pot to " Go Dutch" unless the player is rubbish and are desperate to get rid.:(

Here's why I cannot understand it all.
We get Higdon from Holland and don't play to his strengths to he doesn't score then we look to get Kevin Can of Beans.

It all sounds rather double Dutch to me

When I first read this I read the second last word as "in" as opposed to "at". Which made me think that firstly Clough needs to concentrate on the job in hand rather than moonlighting in the counselling of the chronically half pint empty, but also that his methods need urgent revision...

When was the last time we genuinely won the race to sign someone? We always get told other clubs were intestered in X but we got there first, but did anyone actually bid?. Anyway IMO we need someone proven in this league who can score goals to get us out we SHOULD have to money to get this player, I also don't think we are short of much more we just need to start getting the best out of players and play to there strengths in the right formation.

We beat Chesterfield to Higdon

Adams was signed in spite of competition from Newcastle etc. We also paid circa £100k for him which is not an insignificant amount of money for a non league player.

Yep. Scored a few goals 20? [top scorer I think] in a team that was relegated!

I see no realistic chance of automatic promotion now, but experience has taught me to never rule out anything in football.

I think we'll be in the play-offs. Neither NC nor the vast majority of these players are tainted by the past failures of SemiPro and others.

These lads have proved themselves time after time in cup ties. Not only that, we will have a stronger team by the end of the month.

You know what? We're going to win the fucking play-offs!

Wemberlee, Wemberleeeee......

Congrats Pinchy - the first member of the forum to be offered a hand job by Blade56

Outstanding contribution to Bladey Bladeness in taking one for the team there :D

An even greater honour for 56 though, Ken. The first person ever to offer me a hand-job!!

Two likes for that response Kenilworth obviously a wanker post on S24SU has a different connotation than the same phrase on BladesMad.

Via the biggest Gregg's in the country and a ten grand's worth of steak bake spree by the look of him.

The 'cakes' are a bit different in Holland..which may explain this Dutch signing...
