Apparantley they can sign players to make their squad upto a total of 20, with the consent of the football league.

without knowing the wages he'd definitely be a better option than Nosworthy or Ertl in my view.

Pompy have the parachute payments so can offer Premiership wages. Probably one of the reasons the HMRC aren't too happy about them ditching £14 Million owed to them.

Sonko's been on a hefty wage for the past few years, he'd be well out of our league.

Good point about the parachute payment's FB. These should be paid directly to HMRC.
Any money that Portsmouth owe to HMRC is my money, your money, everyone's money.

Leicester in 2002 got away with around £7m I believe, that was owed to HMRC.
Do you remember the hilarious spectacle of Leicester fans having a go at Warnock when he called them immoral, despite the fact their club went bust taking taxpayers money with it!

Surely any guaranteed future income (Ie parachute payments) ought to be considered in reaching the admin settlement. If they weren't it seems deeply immoral that Pompey screw their creditors, emerge from admin, then immediately start pissing away cash on highly paid players again.

I know there are practical difficulties in this, and that administration is about drawing a line in the sand, but still... We all knew these millions were due.

:(

Does anybody know what is happening with Portsmouth? According to the ever-reliable "Championship tracker" on the official site, they've only released two players and signed Sonko. That means they still have a number of top quality players at Championship level like Ben Haim, Hreiddarson, Mullins, Nugent, T.Smith, Webber!, Brown!! Yet Corals have them down as 15th favourites for the title at 28-1.

Are they definitely going to be deducted more points when they come out of administration or are they worth a crafty fiver?

Webber was fine for us at Championship level when he helped us get promoted. I'd rather have him in our squad than Ched Evans. According to their official website, they still also have Mokoena, Bouba Diop, Richard Hughes, Boateng and Utaka. Arguably, the strongest squad in the League. So the question remains, are they worth a punt at 28-1?

All the noise is about Boro have people forgotten about Portsmouth .Still a ways to go before the window closes but if they keep and add to that bunch 28-1 is definately worth a flutter go for it mate!

28/1? Excellent value to be fair. Even an each wayer would be looking decent.

It's a punt. If they keep the players they still have, then 28s looks very long odds and worth a go. The bookies obviously think that most of those players will be leaving, but the closer it gets to the end of the window with those players still there, the shorter the odds will be. So move now for that gamble.

Personally, I think most of those players will be gone before the end of the window, and the ones that aren't will not be that motivated about playing in Div 2. I don't think Pompey will be challenging, but you never know!

I think you're 2nd para is key. They have plenty of well paid players who move from club to club at the drop of a hat, mainly within lower Prem clubs and I can't see them all gelling together into the kind of unit needed to get out of this division.

Bouba Diop jumped ship last week, Ben Haim is rumoured to be leaving, I'll be amazed if James is still there come 1st game and all this with the background of financial problems they still have. If they can play with the same kind of spirit they finished last season with fair enough, but a cold night away at Scunthorpe is a different ball game.

The likes of Utaka (80k pw) will be out on loan in no time I'd expect.

They really can't sustain that wage bill, even with the parachute payments. I think the bookies have got their odds about right.

The only decent bet re Pompey is 7-2 for them to be relegated:
Just had their worst ever pre-season (lost last night 4-0 to a very average DC team)
The manager is starting to wish he had never joined them.
Realistically they have 14 fit players at the moment.
They can only sign two outfield players due to the ongoing embargo
HMRC have contested their CVA and a court case is still outstanding
If HMRC win the case then Pompey will probably be liquidated.
HMRC are contesting the use of 'Image Rights' paid to such players as Nugent. Pompey paid half the wages as tax free Image Rights via offshore companies - Pompey maintain that any tax liability lies with the players (HMRC maintain the club as wage-payers owe them then tax as it was not a payment 'for value'.

I could go on. Basically, bet against them.

Can a club start the season in administration? If so, I'm guessing the points deduction is effective immediately?
